Black People must learn to code, or DIE - Robert F. Smith

So in the future we wont need plumber, electricians, contractors? People kill me with this we must learn coding shit when there are a lot of good paying jobs out there that wont require it. When your kid blocks your toilet with his lego and you need to pay a plumber $100 a hour to fix it lets see coding fix that.

there are so many coding shops out there all you need is to bring your intellectual property/idea to the table. an architect doesn't build the skyscraper.
You make it sound so easy. Slow. Down and break it down for those of. Us that aren't as advanced as you.

Yeah man, that Asian guy who is for the basic living wage touched on this shit. It's basically like telling everyone to be a doctor or lawyer.

You're right...we do need more Black folks worldwide in coding though...dude's message is solid...tons (relatively) of new billionaires and millionaires being made and Black folk need more of that action

I don't have all the answers sway! The narrative is everyone needs to code, but coding for what purpose? to fill some work place jobs or to have the mindset to solve problems? Having tech savviness and knowing how coding can help and bridging the gap is a good start. Maybe a tech incubator for the black community, like Y Combinator but all you bring is your ideas.

If you're skilled at wood working and got an idea to use smartphone camera/AR to maximize a sheet of material. It's not ideal for you to sit down learn to code to bring it from concept when you can consult out and hire project manager and independent coder or an entire software development team. Reputable of course so there will be an NDA, and you get the code copyrighted. Here's a company that offer services as mentioned https://yourcto.co

good. u go fix that toilet

How hard would it. He to code a smart toilet that recognizes the displacement of plastic toys and won't flush with out an override?

He is a billionaire. You better take his words seriously.
Its all about STEM
Niggas are too scared of math and science
But the fact of the matter is....a creative mind (which the Black community is FULL of) + knowledge if one of the 4 STEM fields = money for life. All fields command large amounts of money due to the high barrier of entry/difficulty of solving problems.

I majored in chemistry. I know for a fact that times go bad, I can create something that will help me maintain a high quality of life.
If you have kids you better teach them about having discipline. Mental labor. Sitting down and reading or using your brain. That's the only fucking way.

Fuck your miserable life. His message is meant for Black people with mental ability. Not braindead losers like you have never had an potential. Take that faggot shit to another thread. Then slit your wrist

So you're an advocate for not learning to code while pointing to a website that features smart vending machines lol
The clip was Robert Smith envisioning more tech companies owned/operated by AA, my point is you don't need to code to achieve that, just have an idea and outsource the coding. Those that are advocating to "learn to code" rarely provide a reason why you should.

How is it like telling everyone to be a doctor or. Lawyer?

Learning to code doesn't take a 4 year degree followed by 3 to 4 years of graduate study
Yeah, but in order to be successful, it takes a certain level of intelligence. If shit were that easy, it wouldn't pay so well. Even with all these free online courses and people free to learn, the pay rate is still through the roof because companies can't find enough talent. Let that sink in.

So much like a doctor, lawyer, and engineer, I'd argue this is something for people of above-average intelligence. And much like those other professions, the smart person has to be passionate about what they are doing and put in the work or even they will fail.

If you don't understand the GAPs in what you just typed....

Did you even listen to the talk he explained EXACTLY why learning to code is important.

90% of the jobs relagated to. Black folk can and will be done A. I. in the next 20 years

didn't I say I watched the clip? i'll watch the full video after I finish my cobol class. Which language should I get started with after python or golang?

They can't find enough talent, not because it's hard but because every one is in arts and finance

Lol at certain level of intellengce, light weight. Saying black folk are stupid FOH

If you can learn to read ND write you can Learn to code.

Don't believe me, just think back to black planet when everybody had themes and music playing on their pages.

You should start where you feel comfortable.

You stated they always tell people to code but don't say why... That's patently false

 @ it's not hard. What's next? Anyone can be an engineer? Get the entire fuck out of here. People actually drop out of computer science to go into the arts and other shit. Everyone is in other shit outside of tech because it's hard. Fuck are you on? Go ask hiring managers about the shit they go through to find competent programmers.

And I don't know where you get I'm saying black people are stupid. What I'm saying fits for everyone regardless of color. Pushing it as a career option is cool, but let people know what the fuck they getting into. Far too many people out here trying to sell courses and other shit.

I love computing but not everyone is wired to do coding. One wrong character...

It is a good way to make some good money but that's got to be for the younger adults.

I tried it,Python and hated it,if math is not you'r thing and you don't have the time to sit in front of a computer writing symbols signs and shit,it isn't for you.
I did master html which is like the first door you enter.

Where did I say it's not hard?

What are you talking about?

Your comparisons are lame... People. Drop out. Of. High-school because. It too hard? Or. Because they're uninterested, unmotivated and undisciplined?

Being a software engineer / developer is not easy, but it's not ublearbable either. The bottomline is there is a huge lack of representation in STEM related fields, it's not because it's too hard either. It's because we are trained to think it is

We all need to know at least basics to SEE if it is a filed we can master, to survive in the coming world we need a cultural shift and focus on stem... Prove me wrong

Great drop... heading down that path soon myself. Gotta lock up a few other certs first tho

nipsey hussle had started stem classes for kids in his community. he had plans to branch out that programs nation wide.

No, the shit is hard. It just is. Facts. People are told it's hard because it fucking is. There's nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with the truth. 6 percent of the jobs are STEM and they are hard fucking jobs that pay well.

I understand that there is an underrepresentation of black people in STEM and that has to be corrected. I'm just saying there is a trend in this country to try to push programming like it's easy. The result is a lot of people feeling stupid(when they are not) after they get caught up when the courses get more advanced. And I'm not even talking about black people, because I see mostly white people caught up online on even the simplest concepts.

I remember my CCNA class damn near 20 years ago and experienced people weren't keeping up. IT isn't easy man and people deserve the truth. That's all I'm saying. Folks shouldn't feel like failures because they have to do something else after trying STEM.

It's not. That it's hard, it's is. More that we learn it late.

The Indians are proving that right the fuck now. Learning it at a young age makes a huge difference.

But this is the internet... Being right is more. Important than growth.

I'm enrolling my 3 year old in a. Coding. Magnet school. He will learn from first grade and it will be a way of. Life. If he likes it, he will continue if he doesn't he won't. But he won't grow up afraid. Of the work
