Greetings Fam,

My first cousin is doing research on our ancestry, and they found out that one of our Great-Grandfathers appeared on the Oklahoma and Indian Territory Census Roll 1851-1959 (under the Choctow Nation). It was always rumored that my family had land in Louisiana that "somehow" disappeared.

Well, we found out that our Great-Grandfather was the person who had this land. It was 160 acres. We're currently trying to find out if he sold the land, if he was swindled out of it, or if it was taken by the government.

If any of you have been through this, or down this road; any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank in advance...

You're taking on a project that could be years worth of tedious work! What happens if you get to the very end, then find out you were adopted? :D Good luck, even if you don't reap a nickel you'll likely learn a lot along the way. I will be on the stand-by list for a signed by you copy of ROOTS-2. Enjoy your day.

Adoption... naw. I'm from a big mouthed family. These MoFos couldn't keep a secret like that to save their lives. One person would get angry at another person, then it would go, "You shut the fuck up, with your adopted ass... That's right, I said it!"

My cousin is the one who's actually doing the digging, but I'm curious to see what comes out of it. Owning land is a big thing to me. So if we have some out there, I want to know about it for sure.

White people kill for land. So the least we can do is research and see if we have some that was commandeered illegally.

do you know about...

TRAIL OF TEARS.
The term "Trail of Tears" refers to the difficult journeys that the Five Tribes took during their forced removal from the southeast during the 1830s and 1840s. The Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole were all marched out of their ancestral lands to Indian Territory, or present Oklahoma. Although the removal of American Indians began long before the nineteenth century, the Trail of Tears is mostly associated with the forced removals that took place after the 1830 Indian Removal Act.

You gonna need some research first....

Start by reading the Treaty of the Dancing Creek.....!

Yes, we know about the Trail of Tears...
That's another reason why we suspect foul play when it comes to the 160 acres.

Bro... I thumbed through The Treaty that you sent, and These three names are believed to be relatives of ours: Eyarhoeuttubbee, Mushulatubbee, and Holubbee. I'm sending this to my cousin immediately.

Thank you...

The government just gave some back to folks in Los Angeles(Bruce's beach). That land is worth tens of millions. I'd say keep the search up. Could be a nice penny if there was some shenanigans done.
Yes, Bruce's Beach was about three acres... I know they have million's coming.

We don't know if my G-Gfather's land was swamp, forest, or just worthless... We just don't know. But, we're going to try to find out.

Here's an update, Fam.

This is what we've found out so far. In searching for our Great-Grandfather Frank Sexton, we found our Great-Great-Grandfather whose name was Dixon Sexton. We thought that he was a Freedman, but we found out that he was a full blood Choctaw, and he had land in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Frank's land was in Louisiana.

Now, looking at the roll, we see that Dixon's father is named: Willis. So we found our Great-Great-Great-grandfather as well.

Now, we're combing through the Department of Interior's records to see what happen to all of the land.

Good information, bruh!! Keep dropping this good information, its too bad the deception/indoctrination has a strangle hold on a large percentage of people. All this information is public record, but this corporation is banking on folks not reading and sitting in front of that tv!! Anyway, Im glad your finding the paper trail that pointing you to your past and tribe!! Right on, write on, bruh..

Thank you, Brother...

We found out that the Choctaw Nation (organization) along with the other so called Civilized Tribes are full of shit too. They started whitewashing everything as well. They made the chiefs and decision makers white, and they tried to say that all of the dark Choctaws (and dark tribesmen from other tribes) were not full blood tribesmen, but Freedmen - which is disapproved by my family's records. I'm positive that other people's records will prove the same thing. Freedmen got less land than the full blooded tribesmen.

It's all about "Land Ownership." The Nation let whites marry in, and buy in. While they discourage full blood dark natives from registering/participating. Their problem now is that Black/Dark Natives are seeking out their ancestries, and the Dawes Roll (which was about Land, not blood) is exposing the shenanigans because the rolls documented who got land, and if they were full blood or not.

I hope that made sense... Hell, I'm trying to wrap my brain around it.

This is a good ass thread! You got me wanting to look up my family. Where do you start with a project like this?
My cousin started asking around at my Great-Grandmother's funeral in 2003. Some relatives that we didn't know (they were much older than us) came, then told us that we're from the Choctaw tribe. They told us all kinds of stuff: like plantation life, sharecropping... etc.

Most of my younger relatives were like, "Here's that Indian in my family b.s. again." But, my Great-Grandmother looked like an Indian, she was just dark.

So years passed, then my cousin started digging and got on ancestry.com. Then the Dawes Roll popped up, and here we are.

Thanks. I had a distant cousin that traced my mother’s side of the family all the way to the African that was enslaved and brought to America from Senegal. He married a Seminole woman and that started my moms side of the family. Cuz wrote a book, but I lost my copy. I will use that as my start though. Thanks for the info!

Whatever you do, dont do that spit dna test.. from that ancestry site, that shit is for entertainment only!! Good luck on tracing your past and finding your tribe!!

Thanks for the warning, because that’s exactly what I was going to do

If you know where your greatgrandparents were located, you can start with the census depts.. That ancestry site is good for starting your paper trail.. Ill say this, its not easy but nothing is easy.. Good luck, bruh.. If your grand parents are alive start with them..

We've decided to demand recognition in our ancestor's name. We have to provide State certified birth and/or death certificates from our GG-Grandfather's lineage down to us. So we're going to purchase them, then send them in.

They are going to be hot as fish grease, because some long lost relatives from South Central LA (by way of Louisiana) are coming to the party.

This is the MoFo who's supposed to be the current Chief of the Choctaw Nation. His name is Gary Batton. My cousin and I saw this shit and we started cracking up over the phone. My cousin was like, "How's this white dude chief of anything and he has no top lip?"
