Supergirl
and Arrow co-creator Greg Berlanti is reportedly developing a series following Black Lightning, one of DC Comics’ first major black superheroes. According to Deadline, Berlanti is working with The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband to get the drama off the ground, and the trio are currently shopping the project to multiple networks.

Black Lightning has the chance to be DC’s highest profile black superhero series to date. Created in 1977 by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning, otherwise known as Jefferson Pierce, is an educator and eventual member of the Justice League with the power to control electrical energy. In the proposed TV series, Pierce will have retired from superheroics, but after his daughter’s life is endangered by his city’s underworld, he willingly steps back into his old alter ego.

Marvel does
DC see
DC copies
and the sad thing is, had DC been smart from the beginning, Marvel would be the ones playing catch up. However, this show may be a good thing, because it kind of brings JSA together. But where DC fucks up at is, the shows are not connected to the movies. This would be epic if it was. You would have JSA, JLA and Suicide Squad all set. Marvel can't even get all their big name groups together in the same universe. DC can't capitalize on anything. Its right there in their grasp.

its not happening -yet- CW said no more for now...
besides do any of you really want to see a Black Lightning show written by the writer of The Game and Being Mary Jane??
With the CW production standards???

Report: Greg Berlanti's Pitching a Black Lightning Show to Networks

Lest you think Greg Berlanti was done making superhero shows after Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorow, and Supergirl, the man’s working with Mara Brock Akil (The Game and Being Mary Jane) and Salim Akil to bring Black Lightning to TV.

According to Deadline, the show is being produced by Warner Bros. TV and written by the Akils. All are currently in the process of trying to sell the show to a network. The natural home for the show would be the CW, but CW president Mark Pedowitz just said a few weeks ago that the channel was “no real discussions about any more superhero characters.” Deadline also reports that Black Lightning’s been in the pipeline at Warner Bros. TV for more than a year, which makes it hard to believe that Pedowitz didn’t know it was an option when he said that.

Black Lightning is a DC character created by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden in the 1970s, an African-American superhero with the power to generate and manipulate electricity (originally with a belt, but he’s a metahuman now). His real name is Jefferson Pierce and he has two superhero daughters.

My favorite fact because it’s just such a perfect embodiment of comic books: Pierce was the Secretary of Education when Lex Luthor was the President of the United States. I really would love to see that plot on television.

I hope Marvel gets the Fantastic 4 and X-Men franchises back, since they gave fox the ability to do a televised syndicated show on X-men.

Marvel needs everything back, especially for the Infinity movies (since eventually Reed is a holder of one of the gems).

i would watch it, just because. But you are right, judging by The Game and Being Mary Jane, i wouldn't feel confident with those writers.

Man, I'm not supporting this. DC/WB is only doing this because Black Panther got such great buzz, so they do Black Lightning.

Someone earlier said Marvel does, DC follows. They are absolutely right.

Watch they bring back Black Goliath if Luke Cage does well.

Fucking ridiculous....

I honestly don't know that much about the character Black Lightning. But I would have been super hype for a Static Shock live action show on the CW. Static is slightly younger which seems to fit the CW model better than Black Lightning, but who knows what they have planned.

I really want to support dc in all its endeavors...

One of my first comics ever was dc presents

But the faCT they doing BL before Static?

Is pathetic.

He actually has a decent revised origin...in good hands COULD be very mcguyver, STEM, educational bent for kids.

I kinda disagree - Black Lightning ties into JL better than Static and Lightning came looong before Static

Static is too powerful & not token enough.

You really think they gonna put a young black man with the power of the entire EM spectrum (and knows how to use it, down to the science), with dreadlocks, down to earth & relatable to any person (especially young kids) as the start of his own show?

Nah, man. You get Black Lightning, looking like a 80's reject pimp with a dusty afro & basic electric powers that get shorted out by water all the time. Maybe they'll have him working in school....as a janitor.

He slowly grows into / works up to that power level -
which in my opinion makes a perfect premise for TV- BEcause he starts unskilled and low powered
while still in high school - I swear these execs are incompetent

Those two words just made me rethink everything I said before and I take it all back. I don't want The CW anyway near Static, but you know damn well he wouldn't have dreads or be dark skinned. They'd probably get that high yellow SideShow Bob looking ass n**** from the High School Musical movies or some shit.

add to the fact they already have Mr. Terrific. So you put Static, Terrific and Black Lightning together, and you got three heroes that could possibly take the spotlight from what they have now. Not to mention, Kid Flash and Firestorm are also black. So you kind of have to give DC their props on that aspect, they are being more diverse.

As usual you thinking logically and long term....

I'm just a McDuffie fan who wants to finally see his creation live.

The Flash traveling to the Milestone universe would bring tears of joy.

And I feel like Static with the cartoon and comics would translate really well, his last series I think might have enough to merge him into the JLA nicely.

Marc Bernardin wrote it.

no doubt... Static would work well on TV- and you already know I think Berlanti and co have no ideas and are incompetent in presenting ideas from the books... but using DC / WB logic / lack of imagination- so far they have been using heroes with traditionally 1 degree of separation from Batman and a lesser extent Superman... the studio needs a shake up -fire the c level execs- reorganize

IMO - Firestorm should not be on TV, where as Static should be.
Imagine Icon on TV the setup like Highlander, flashbacks to his life prior to earth and his assimilating during slavery, work and lessons learned - mixed with current conflicts with millenia old supernatural enemies that he first encountered in the 1800s, and metahumans and "visiting" aliens that he has history or friendship or conflict with.

Good lawd man!!!!

Reading that was simultaneously the best thing ever and worst.

We just need u with the execs for ONE afternoon.
