If those votes went to the green party that sends a message...if marianne williamson or castro or even elizabeth warren had garnered a significant number of black votes within the democratic party that sends a message. It tells the establishment that we will support the candidate who pushes our agenda. In order for that to happen to have to tell people why its in their best interest to support these people not insult them about past choices.

I hear what you are saying. But, what you are saying would be valid if there wasn't such a known disdain for black Americans by some African immigrants. We have to be honest about this if we are ever going to rectify the problem. Most African immigrants do not empathize with the plight or history of black Americans. It, not theirs. I get it. Couple that with the years of ignorant black Americans dissing Africans. It's somewhat understandable why many African immigrants feel no real kinship with black Americans. They do not even want to be confused a being a black American. As to the anti-African sentiment and rhetoric that has slowly become widespread over the past decade on bgol all i can say to that is it's a damn shame. this whole notion that somehow, a majority of Africans hate African Americans or vice versa, and this narrative that African immigrants are helping to subjugate African Americans, a narrative that over the past 5-6 years has been heavily promoted by the likes of Tariq has now eroded any gains made to close any divides that exist between both groups. the rhetoric is now actually becoming incendiary in nature and as to what the outcome may be in a few years...well, i will leave you to figure that out. all i can say is this, no one will benefit from this division. no one. there are African Americans who may have legitimate concerns about the actions taken by a few Africans and will voice out their displeasure at that and there is no problem with that...but when you start generalizing, and you start throwing insults and casting aspersions on all Africans, trust me when i tell you (from the point of view of an African) you will lose any allies you have in the African immigrant community. if you know me then you know i used to rock with Tariq back in the day when he spoke the truth...even when it was to the point where he would criticize some Africans on the continent...because for a moment there he was speaking the truth...he wasn't making stuff up, he wasn't using hyperbole,....but then i started to notice a change about 3 to 4 years ago and i noticed at some point he just started lying his ass off and just making false claims he wouldn't be able to back. soooo many lies. lies like Africans are vetted in africa to make sure they dislike african americans before they are given visas to come to america. i swear to God when i first heard him say that, he lost all credibility to me.
the thing FBA or ADOS or whatever you choose to call yourself need to realize is that, most 2nd generation Africans like myself who have kids that were born and raised here have a totally different mindset than our parents did. I would hope that you would be intelligent to realize that. shifts in paradigms occur with each generation. My parents who are in the 60s and 70s never told me to avoid African americans, and even though they were very much in tune with the continent more so than with America, i have lived longer here than they have and so my attitude towards African Americans will be much different than theirs and so will my kids who were born and raised here. but if you choose to not see it that way and you insist on this narrative that somehow I am your enemy, well then, you know what they say, perception is reality. I am an ally because when i see an african american i see another black man but he sees me as something other than an ally and goes out of his way to insult me and think that he can disparage me because of my heritage, well then, so be it and i will treat him or her in a manner befitting of their thought processes.

That’s the thing. The Middle Passage lasted over 350 years during which tens of millions of Africans were sold from the continent yet they want to act like it was some fly-by-night random historical event! Then have the nerve to cop an attitude with US when we bring it up! Slavery wasn’t even “formally” abolished in Nigeria until 1935.

If it’s a big issue for you then maybe you should seek ways Black and immigrants can improve relationships.
If it was one man's opinion, then I could accept that. But, just how I acknowledge that there are some black Americans who openly have disdain for Africans, there are some Africans who openly have a disdain for black Americans. This isn't some insignificant number. Many African immigrants come to the U.S. with preconceived notions about black Americans. It's not entirely their fault. But, it is real.
You and I both know that African immigrant parents are adamant about not allowing their children to date black Americans. This is real.
There’s always gonna be apprehension when learning new cultures and people. Some are staunch traditionalist others are more open minded. Those of us who are right thinking will meet in the middle.
