Bird Flu

Squaawwwk... "The sky is falling!" cried Chicken Little.

The "Bird Flu Epidemic" must be believed.
It must be believed because it cannot be known.
It cannot be known because it does not exist.

54 people dead in THREE years and no more than 100 suspected deaths, is not an epidemic by any valid measure!

Have you heard anything about the death by lightning epidemic?

Latest update to this page.
This is 9th grade math folks! In the USA, the rate of death caused by lightning is 0.5 persons per million. Given this rate, how many people would be killed by lightning in the USA each year? If this rate is the same for Canada, how many people would be killed in Canada each year by lightning? See if you can find out how many people are killed each year in Canada by lightning. Calculate the rate per million. Is the probability of being struck and killed by lightning higher or lower than the probability of winning the jackpot in the 649 draw?"Check it out...

Words such as if, could, may, fear that bird flu is mutating, about to mutate, may mutate, could become epidemic, etc., etc. tell this story. Everything else is pure "shock-n-awe" material to grab your attention.

Here is our real problem. Ignorance as a Leading Cause of Death...

How many phone calls have been made to report a dead bird?
What is the worlds bird population?
What is the average lifespan of a bird?
How many birds die each year?
How significant can the death of one bird be???

This is either a wartime psychological operation, OR they are getting ready to test their latest designer disease!
OR both.

To MSM about 'bird flu'--SHUT UP!
An “influenza” is a viral infection that has a relatively short lifespan and causes problems for its victim in the form of several minor effects (chills, high fever, aches and pains, headaches, sore throat, mucosal irritation). These actual “flu” conditions may make someone feel like they want to die, but the influenza virus generally does not kill a person—nor an animal. —

Avian Flu Fright:
If avian flu becomes more than a threatened pandemic, it will have done so by political and economic design. This thesis is supported by current massive media misrepresentations, profiteering on risky and valueless vaccines, gross neglect of data evidencing earlier similar man-made plagues including SARS, West Nile Virus, AIDS and more; continuance of genetic studies breeding more mutant flu viruses likely to outbreak, inside trading scandals involving pandemic savvy White House and drug industry officials, curious immunity of these pharmaceutical entities over the past century to law enforcement and mainstream media scrutiny, and published official depopulation objectives. With the revelations and assertions advanced herein, the public is forewarned against this physician assisted mass murder best termed "iatrogenocide."* This genocidal imposition is expected to serve mainly economic and political depopulation objectives. ~ Dr. Len Horowitz Debunks Avian Flu Hysteria Campaign

A magacian working his magic before an audience can accurately predict the outcome of his performance. Consider that as you read the following, and laugh at the cartoon bubbles just over the shoulder of the speaker as he addresses the World Health Organization warning of the likelihood of a human flu pandemic.

In a trip to southeast Asian nations, WHO Director-General Dr. Jong Woo Lee, made such a warning, urging the world to prepare itself for the outbreak.

"The burning question is, you know, will there be a human influenza pandemic. I believe, on behalf of WHO, I can tell you that there will be. And right now the only one condition missing is the virus that is rapidly transmitted from human to human," said Dr. Lee. WHO warns of future human flu pandemic

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed a bird flu outbreak occurred at the beginning of August on a chicken farm in the suburbs of Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, but said it has now been brought undercontrol.
"So far, the bird flu outbreak has been under control, and no other similar cases has been reported in other parts of the autonomous region," said a high-ranking official with the ministry.
In the wake of the case, the official said, the local government instituted rigid measures to stem the spread of the epidemic.
The local government has culled 2,608 chickens, disinfected and closed the farm, which belongs to the Regional Institute of Animal Husbandry Science.
Lhasa also spotted a bird flu case in 2004.
The official said the outbreak this year started on August 1. Atotal of 133 breeding chickens were infected and died. The State Bird Flu Reference Laboratory later confirmed that these chickens were infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus. ~ Bird Flu brought under control in Tibet

Has anyone noticed that over the past 50 years, each year had it's flu strain, and the last vaccine would not work? Do you remember there ever being any particular problem producing the new vaccine? Now comes this H5N1 strain which keeps breaking out over a period of several years, and a vaccine has proven to be extremely ellusive. From the looks of it, the only thing that is mutating is the propaganda line, and the resulting fear factor.

Sometimes, the story doesn't quite seem to match the headline.

'Bird Flu', SARS - Biowarfare or a Pandemic of Propaganda?
It might be good to remind ourselves that H5N1 is very same bird virus that was being "researched", meaning it was being actively changed and cultured, when Liu Jianlun, a laboratory scientist in China's Guangdong province became the first SARS victim two years ago - on 4 March 2003. Another death of a scientist was later linked to a laboratory in Singapore. The laboratory was culturing the same virus.

The SARS "pandemic" eventually faded away, but not without leaving a deep impression. A high pitched media campaign had convinced the world it was facing a great threat when in reality SARS turned out to be a comparably minor disease with 8.500 infected world wide and around 812 deaths. Compare that to CDC figures of 36.000 flu related deaths yearly in the U.S. alone. Or compare it with the mayhem of more than 100.000 U.S. deaths from the damaging effects of pharmaceutical drugs in the same time span.

WHO worried by China's use of flu drug on birds
BEIJING (Reuters) - The World Health Organisation gave tacit confirmation on Tuesday that Chinese farmers had used anti-viral drugs on poultry to curb the spread of bird flu, a practice China denied giving its backing.

"We are not completely sure about how widespread (amantadine use in China) is, but it has not been a complete surprise to us that it has been used," WHO representative Henk Bekedam told Reuters.

"We know in general these resistances are gradually building up," Bekedam said.

H5N1 first surfaced in poultry in Hong Kong and China eight years ago and his killed at least 37 people in Vietnam, 12 in Thailand and four in Cambodia.

Vietnam reported on Monday that two more people had contracted bird flu in the country's north.

China successfully curbed an avian flu outbreak in Qinghai last year, culling thousands of birds.

No infections of domesticated birds or humans have been reported in the recent outbreak.

"These experts will be further studying issues first raised at a WHO meeting in Manila in May 2005, including the possibility of more widespread H5N1 human transmission, changes in the H5N1 virus, and the likelihood of increased human-to-human transmission," the WHO said in a press release.International bird flu experts in Vietnam to check human transmission risk

Channel 4 Dispatches - Supermarket Secrets
Documentary about Factory Farming and Supermarket Food

Air Date: Thursday 28th July 2005
Duration: 1 hour.

How and what we eat has radically changed over the past few decades with the all-consuming rise of the supermarket. But what price are we paying for the homogenised, cheap and convenient food in which supermarkets specialise? In a two-part programme, journalist Jane Moore investigates how supermarkets have affected the food on our plates and uncovers the information shoppers need to know. Using a combination of undercover filming and scientific analysis,

Supermarket Secrets investigates whether the food on supermarket shelves is really as good as it looks, whether prices are as good as they seem and what happens behind the scenes in the production of supermarket food.

The first of the two programme features secret filming which uncovers the horrific conditions inside a chicken broiler house preparing chickens for a company which supplies all the major supermarkets. One study carried out by a professor from Cambridge University revealed that 82% of chickens bought in supermarkets had hockburns – a tell-tale sign of poor animal welfare caused by sitting in litter. Jane Moore shows how to examine chickens for hockburns.

The programme also examines why chickens nowadays have more fat and less protein and why it is vitally important to read the ingredients lists on healthy option meals. Also, top chef Raymond Blanc puts some supermarket 'ready meals' to the taste test.

Programme two meets the organic potato farmer who feeds much of his crop to his cows because, he says, the supermarkets deem his produce to be insufficiently cosmetically pleasing. The film also hears from a toxicologist about the levels of pesticide residues in supermarket fresh produce; reveals how dairy cattle are now factory farmed and why packaged fruit and vegetables from your local supermarket may be more expensive that you think – and not as good for you.

With contributions from leading experts including Joanna Blythman, Professor Tim Lang, Dr Vyvyan Howard and Felicity Lawrence.

More people have fallen ill from Avian flu than mad cow disease, but we were concerened about that as well. I call it the "disease of the year " syndrome. However, I think that it does make some sense to prepare (not panic) for a possible outbreak, because the Avian flu is believed to be responsible for the great Flu pandemic of 1918 (I think) that killed tens of millions of people.

US Would Close Schools, Restrict Travel In Case of Worldwide Flu Outbreak

Associated Press | August 26 2004

Readers Comment: I'm a British citizen who has lived in the U.S for 7 years now. I would like to add that my experience with a flu jab I had 10 years ago in Ireland resulted in my suffering from perpetual chesty coughs and even outright flu viruses that year. I felt that my immune system was compromised. My advice to anybody considering getting a flu jab: Don't, you're better off with common sense remedies like plenty of rest, fresh air, good nutrition and most importantly, a positive, self-empowered approach. Never surrender your fate to the crooked medical establishment for things like flu. Be empowered!

If sauerkraut is any indication that you will be eating pork with that, as they do in Germany...read this:

Because all known influenza A subtypes exist in the aquatic bird reservoir, influenza is not an eradicable disease; prevention and control are the only realistic goals. If people, pigs, and aquatic birds are the principal variables associated with interspecies transfer of influenza virus and the emergence of new human pandemic strains, influenza surveillance in these species is indicated. Live-bird markets housing a wide variety of avian species together (chickens, ducks, geese, pigeon, turkeys, pheasants, guinea fowl), occasionally with pigs, for sale directly to the public provide outstanding conditions for genetic mixing and spreading of influenza viruses; therefore, these birds should be monitored for influenza viruses. Moreover, if pigs are the mixing vessel for influenza viruses, surveillance in this population may also provide an early warning system for humans.

Avian Influenza - Causative Agent

The virus causing avian influenza is an Influenzavirus A virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Several virus subtypes exist, which are divided on the bases of the antigenic relationships in the virus glycoproteins haemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). At present 15 H subtypes have been recognised (H1-H15) and nine neuraminidase subtypes (N1-N9).

Influenza A viruses infecting poultry can also be divided on the basis of their pathogenicity (ability to cause disease).

The very virulent viruses cause highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) with high mortality in poultry up to 100%. In the whole world there have been only 21 reported primary isolates of such viruses from domestic poultry since 1959. A severe epidemic occurred in Italy in 1999/2000 causing 413 outbreaks with 16 Million birds affected.

Other AI viruses cause a much milder disease (low pathogenic avian influenza, LPAI). Clinical signs are much less evident or even absent and mortality is much lower.

Sometimes secondary infections or environmental conditions may cause exacerbation of LPAI infections leading to more serious disease.

Evidence suggests that certain avian influenza virus subtypes of low pathogenicity may, after circulation for some time in a poultry population, mutate into highly pathogenic virus strains.

To date only viruses of H5 and H7 subtype have been shown to cause HPAI in susceptible species, but not all H5 and H7 viruses are highly pathogenic.

Bird-Flu Vaccine May Be Ready by Next Year

By MARIA CHENG AP Medical Writer
© 2006 The Associated Press

LONDON — GlaxoSmithKline may be able to produce a vaccine in mass quantities to protect humans from bird flu by next year, the drugmaker said Wednesday following encouraging results from a clinical trial.

The prototype vaccine, which could potentially be used during a pandemic caused by the H5N1 virus, uses low doses of its active ingredient, meaning that greater quantities could be produced. The vaccine uses an inactivated strain of H5N1 that was isolated in Indonesia last year.

The results were based on a trial conducted on 400 adults in Belgium, using a vaccine including adjuvant, an ingredient added to vaccines to stimulate the immune system and increase the response to the vaccine.

"It's a good and exciting piece of science," Dr. David Nabarro, the United Nations' coordinator for avian and pandemic influenza, said. "But as with all new discoveries, quite a lot of work has now got to be done to establish its place in public health and pandemic preparedness."

Adding adjuvant to a vaccine allows makers to use less antigen, a key ingredient in vaccines. Previous attempts to create a pandemic vaccine have been disappointing, as they have required large amounts of antigen to provoke a strong immune response.

Using a proprietary adjuvant, GlaxoSmithKline PLC has apparently succeeded in producing an effective vaccine using a very low dose of antigen.

"This is very significant because it shows the principle that this adjuvant might do the job," said Dr. Albert Osterhaus, head of the virology department at Erasmus University in the Netherlands.

According to GlaxoSmithKline, the vaccine provoked a strong immune response in more than 80 percent of the people tested. "There is still a lot more work to be done with this program, but this validation of our approach provides us with the confidence to continue developing the vaccine," said J.P. Garnier, GlaxoSmithKline's chief executive officer.

While cautioning that the clinical results are still preliminary, some pandemic influenza experts are optimistic that this may ultimately result in the production of many more doses of pandemic vaccine. "It's still small numbers, but if GSK can corroborate this data, it shows that their adjuvant is good," said Osterhaus.

Because production capacity during a pandemic will be limited, using as little antigen as possible will be essential to mass-producing vaccine.

"With this adjuvant added to the vaccine, provided the rest of the tests are OK, you could make 10 times as much vaccine," said Osterhaus, emphasizing that it is still a two-dose vaccine.

Creating a prototype pandemic vaccine, however, does not guarantee that countries will be protected in the event of a flu pandemic. "This vaccine will only give protection against this particular H5N1 strain and possibly other H5N1 strains," said Osterhaus. Thus, if the next influenza pandemic is sparked by a subtype other than H5, much of this vaccine may prove of little use.

"It's a risk judgment for those potentially purchasing vaccine," said Dr. Angus Nicoll, influenza coordinator at the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Because it is impossible to predict which influenza strain will spark the next pandemic, it is equally impossible to produce a vaccine that will be completely effective.

"It's a very difficult decision for a country to decide whether to invest in pandemic vaccines," said Nicoll. "If there is no H5N1 pandemic ... then eventually the vaccine expires and the resources invested in it are lost," he added.
