Billboard recently released a list of the most popular songs of the last 25 years. Although I expected “Uptown Funk” to make the list, I was quite surprised to see that the number one spot went to—drumroll, please— The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” The song was released in February 2020 (right before the COVID-19 pandemic) and immediately went viral on TikTok.

“The track reigns thanks to a record 57-week run in the Hot 100’s top 10 from February 2020 through April 2021, including four weeks at No. 1,” Billboard shared. “It also logged a record, and staggering, 86 weeks in the chart’s top 40. In November 2021, ‘Blinding Lights’ [was] crowned Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Songs chart, dating to the weekly list’s August 1958 start.”

Rounding out the top ten are “Stay” by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber (3), “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO (4), “I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas (5), “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran (6), “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen (7), “Closer” by The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey (8), “Levitating” by Dua Lipa (9) and “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey (10).

There is a lot of truth in this comment
We made the music before the schools. We had religion before the churches. The institutions that folks want to venerate were comprised. It’s all in the American Dilemma.

And you can put your disciples like Lorenzo Greene at Lincoln in but even then that’s too little. The time we spend watching white folks do black music should be spent being African. That bemoaning stuff isn’t helpful.

I feel like lots of songs are missing…like where is “Crazy” cee lo that song was on the radio every time I turned it on.
