It's understandable. America is one of the most ethnically diverse first world countries on the planet. It also shares a huge border with a nation of broke people of color. These factors make civil and human rights much more complicated than they would be in a country like Japan or Finland. Especially since practically all of Japan and Finland's non dominant population moved there by choice. It also makes sense that a country that gained most of its wealth through slavery and genocide (The latter being the real cause of the revolutionary war) would have to deal with the effects of these crimes at a later date.

That may not specifically apply to most of the LGBT community, but once you see one group make progress in gaining human rights it makes sense to copy them and fight for yours as well. Especially when there are thousands of American Christians who believe God condones the wholesale murder of gay people.

Gay rights could be opportunity for us to expand the law and fix its weakness such as protections for minority businesses. Byron Allen exposed some of the problems with doing business as a minority owner. I know after the financial crisis, they did all kinds of fucked up things to minority borrowers, the Civil Rights Act could give the government the tools to fund startups providing alternatives to the market. It has been done before when the automotive industry resisted EV mandates.

The term I use is racial monopolies to describe markets that due to the lack of diversity abuse minority customers. Just as with anti-trust actions, the government does not just issues a settlement and the problem is solved. No the government, breaks up companies or funds startups to remedy problems with market.

You were completely right when you said "we all we got", but it never really hit home until I got involved with activism on Treasure Island. These experiences showed that no matter how socially progressive or conservative a candidate might be most of them are either unwilling or incapable of providing even the most basic public services we need to survive. When they do it's usually the crumbs of a program meant for their wealthy donors.

At this point it's time to stop looking to our government for solutions and start looking to the slums of India, favellas of Brazil, and any other country where the government has completely neglected its less affluent citizens. A lot of these communities have come up with extremely creative ways to improve their situations. Perhaps some of these solutions can work for us too.

If you have the skills there has never been a better time to get a job. A good one. My company is bringing in some h1b indians starting in september. 5 girls and 2 guys with the lowest making 92k. The money is there if you put in the work. Trump voters dont wanna reskill though, so even if he wins those jobs are being outsourced and closed.

Outside of that just really find something you like. If you like it you will put in the time to get good at it. I was too poor to buy new video game systems as a kid so I got into emulation. The stuff I learned doing that has made my job infinitely easier. I dont even go into office most days. Im at home watching the cricket world cup on the computer, playing COD black ops 4 on the TV. Have a meeting with clients about code requirements for a project on conference call from noon-1. Outside of that I am left to my own devices.Most things in this field have been done before. I work more with data scientists so a bachelors degree is the entry point. Although most of the upper level guys have masters or PHD.

Military is good for security and other tracks but a lot of companies dont particularly care to hire military guys because they dont do well with people from different backgrounds. We had a few Military guys. One got visibly pissed a Muslim coworker wouldnt eat during ramadan, and another flew off the handle at the thought of management telling people to take the day off for Diwali. Why somebody would get mad for a paid day off I'll never understand, but from what I heard it was boiling over with him for some time. A lot of places dont wanna deal with it, but I know plenty of non technology specific places love to hire vets in tech positions so your experiences vary.
