I said it before, I'm on the fence. If you're racking up 10s of thousands of dollars in debt to get a degree in medieval history, then your ass doesn't deserve forgiveness...or my hard-earned tax dollars.
However, it's a bit more complicated than that
- Schools raising tuition YoY by absurd percentages,
- predatory private loan companies (private loans which cannot be discharged in bankruptcy) doling out money with high interest rates,
- the dept of Ed originating loans with interest rates that don't make sense (prior to the FED rate increases),
- and these mfs at these for-profit universities taking advantage as well.
I paid my shit off as fast as I could. I got lucky. And I was able to set myself up decently after school, right before the great recession. But that was my journey. I bet folks ain't been too lucky recently.
For shit to change, you need employers to change how they value a college degree.
