Bicyclists Thread - Bikes, Gear, and Rides

I'm training for a my first Metric Century in October. Any hints or tips for distance riding?

I never heard of metric century until I

just googled it... about 62 miles.

Long distance cycling is easy with training

first and foremost, along with the right

gear and supplies and shit.

First of all, people think they can up and

decide that they are going to do a

century without training first.

You could do it but it would be difficult

for someone that's fit and exercises

regularly. People who are not fit, could

not just up and ride 100 miles without

proper training.

What I mean by training, is RIDE!

Not sure what level you're at but I'd tell

anyone to start small. Ride 2 miles.

Next day ride 5 miles. Few more days

ride 10 miles. It really does get easier and

easier! Before you know it, you're riding

50 miles with ease!

I make sure I'm hydrated and I always

take some sea salt to mix with my water.

I take routes that have mc Donald's or other

places where where I can fill up my water

bottles.

62 miles I can do without bringing food,

but if im riding 75, 100, 150 mile rides,

I stuff my saddle bag and Jersey pockets

with nuts, fruit or something for calories

for energy.

The main thing is, start small and work

your way up to the big rides. Believe me,

you'll be doing the full centuries (100 mile)

in no time!

I’m upgrading my old Trek bike from 15 years ago

Lol

Nothing wrong with that. If you buy a quality bike, it should last you at least 10 years and ideally more. I still have my mid-90's Rockhopper.

I have a Trek Mamba 29'er. Before I got married and had kids I used to ride 32 miles a day to and from work during the cycling seasons. Now I only ride about 2 miles a day to and from the train station

Lol. We on the same boat. It's not cheap. Wow! U are almost a pro. 20 miles . I just need something like the trek. To go. & go.
If I can find 1. For $400. I would be so greatful!

Same here, el cheapo. I was looking at this one from Costco. Not sure if it's a decent bike?

Of course, I'd really like a Reid Zeus, but I'm not springing $1,500.00.

I am also riding the MS-150, 150 mile

tour here in Cleveland, one week from

today!

I've rode it 22 times!

Yes, initially, the hobby can be expensive

but after you get a good bike and take

care of it, it's not expensive at all!

I ride a minimum of 1,000 - 1,500 miles

every riding season (about 7 months).

I love long distance road biking.

I rode the Cleveland MS-150 Buckeye

Breakaway Tour this weekend and I

gotta say, it was a little rougher than

previous years.

My legs started cramping up a little

on day two but I pedaled thru.

Average speed was 17.6 mph.

175 miles... piece of cake.

Man you would have to pick me up with a spatula after one of these races.
Bro had that missing tooth when the video started I knew we was in for an adventure.

Just grabbed a 2018 Fuji Asbsolute Hybrid Disc off of Offer Up for $200. I really want a Bianchi Impulso but can’t see myself spending 1600
