BGOL Tablet buying guide

Been test driving my new Infinity tf700, its a very nice piece, I picked up the full size USB adapter from Amazon for 10 bucks.

So far its performing as expected, I'm gonna save some movies on a flash drive for my next business trip.

You didn't want the dock? That's an extra memory card for you. Plus it charges the tablet.

Thanks to a friend out West, I caught a one-day sale off Woot.com for a SONY Tablet SGPT112US/S 32GB new. I debated for a few hours, then finally plucked down the $260(originally between $500-$600) after reading plenty of reviews

Sshit sold out quickly.
I was going to wait until later this year to get a tablet.
But the Woot deal was too hard to pass up.

I'm still holding on to my ASUS Eee Netbook.
That little guy's been with me for over two years now.
And has handled every abuse imaginable.
But some days, the thing is like carrying a full laptop.
Just wanted something lighter.

How to tether your tablet to your phone via bluetooth (or wifi). Tried it out and it works great.

FYI - in case anyone is interested, I was able to easily tether my TF700 to my Android phone over bluetooth. It'll even share your phones wifi connection via bluetooth! Extremely easy to setup and it just works...

1. Install FoxFi on your phone
2. Install "PDANet for Tablets" on your TF700 (available for free in Play Store)
3. Select "Activate Bluetooth DUN" in FoxFi on the phone
4. Run PDANet for Tablets on the TF700 and configure it for bluetooth.
5. Simple pair the tablet and phone from within PDANet for Tablets.
6. That's it - you'll be tethered to your phone via bluetooth!

I can't believe how well it works.... Enjoy!

Also - Can do the same thing for wifi tethering as well. The nice thing about bluetooth tethering though is that you can actually share the wifi connection on your phone via bluetooth (something you can't do with normal wifi tethering)... Although, I guess if your phone can connect to wifi, you could just connect your tablet directly to the same wifi! :) But, it works nonetheless!

Any suggestions for a really sturdy tablet? I have a 3 year old who is great on my Ipad but it ain't exactly built for his rugged nature. I need a good tablet that he can drop sometimes. LOL.. as well as kid's apps...How sturdy is the Kindle Fire?

What kinda battery life are you getting from the Infinity?

Mine seems to eat batts pretty fast.

Battery life has been good. Probably not as a good as my xoom. But i keep it connected to my dock most of the time, and that gives it extra battery life. Also, you can put it on Power Saving Mode. I keep mines on Balanced.

i brought my daughter the Hyundai A1. She's 5. The other day she dropped it and it fell apart. The back cover came off. I just snapped it back on and it was fine. There are a lot of kids apps available.

Seems that wi-fi is power hungry.

Have you tried playing MKV files on your t700?

Play them all the time. BS Player will play anything you throw at it. No conversion required. 720, 1080p, doesnt matter. It will play it flawlessly. I watch/download 720p and 1080p movies all the time, in mkv format. They range from about 4 to 10gb in size. Just drop them on the 64gb card, and they play great. Trust me, it will be the best app you ever purchased. Plus, you can stream from your pc with it. And it will play those same movies, the exact same way.

what memory card do you have in yours?

See if you can grab a Refurb Toshiba thrive. One of my vendors has one and it's built like a tank.

Thanx for the info!

I have not fucked with the mem card yet, I'm stuck on a fucked up shift for a customer so I don't get a lot of time with my new toy.

oh ok. just so you know, you cant transfer files over 4gb to the device. You will need to transfer them to memory card formatted at ntfs and exfat. Unlike other tablets, the Infinity can read these formats. But there have been issues reported with using ntfs and exfat32. Check amazon, you can get a 64gb for about $65.

Good shit, I'm gonna check out that mem card.

BTW I got that BS Player and it works great.

The hardware is solid and sturdy but don't drop it on any particular corner.

The Toshiba Thrive has been my staple for all things not windows. It has been dropped 100 times.

However. Freak slip and it fell on a corner and now I have 3 streaking cracks across the screen.

Of course it still works without issue.

Can't actually see the cracks with on except for corner.

Should have bought a case.

I suggest one of these silicone protective covers for any item whether phone or tablet.

Transformer Infinity OTA released today. Add face unlock, bug fixes, issues with certain memory cards seems to have been fixed as well. A camera update as well.

JB should be here before the month is out.

:( stuck with this iPad3 buyers remorse like a motherfucker. shit my 8 year old daughter likes it tho. I think it's just because she doesn't know of any other tablets as soon as I cop something new she'll say fuck that iPad.

sell it and get the Note or the Infinity. My 8 year old tried to take over my tab a while back. I ended up getting her the Samsung Galaxy 2 7". She loves it.

thinking about getting a tab... don't really need 1 though.

are there any 10" that have good battery life and GREAT screen res, I'm only gonna use it to surf the net and watch movies when I fly... oh yea priced under 250... doesn't have to be the newest shit out, but has to be able to use at least a 32gb mem card

i'm looking at 1st gen galaxy tabs, is that a top option

depends on how great you want the screen to be. You might be able to find and Acer for that price. Or maybe even a Xoom. Yeah, try to get a xoom. I loved mines, and it always gets updates.

Just copped 2 Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 16gb tablets for my kids (Christmas presents) :D

Get them from the bestbuy.dtdeals.com website and they both cost average $170. They normally have auctions for open box/in-store display items and I cannot beat that price.

I would have gone the Nexus or Kindle route, but having the SD slot played a huge factor since I can get movies on an SD card and put it in the tablet.

TimRock, please respond to my PM my kind sir :D

Tab 7.0 is a nice choice. Rooted mine, overclocked it, and no complaints.

How did I miss this thread? I'm still rocking with my 32g TouchPad. WebOS plus ICS =

I always wanted to get that Sony tablet. Messed with it a Best Buy last year. Love the ergonomic design.

you recommend the xoom over the galaxy tab

what you think of a 10.1 xoom 32gb with speaker-dock station, bluetooth keyboard, leather case and travel bag for $290.. is that a deal or regular price since the xoom is old :dunno:

i bought a xoom when it first came out...the samsung tabs came out shortly after...if i had a choice today, it would be a tab

thinner. lighter. i'm cool with whatever in the house but when traveling i'm leaning toward whatever is light and packs well...in fact, i'm wanting to go away from tablets entirely and just getting the biggest phone that i can handle comfortably (right now that looks like the samsung gn2 when it releases)...if i need screen real estate other than the phone then i will pack the macbook air and call it a day

yes, it runs JB and also has a microsd slot. Its a pure android device. Yeah, its a little thicker than the tab. And it also has an hdmi port. And thats a great deal. The dock station is nice.
Any advice on a tablet for an 8 yr old? She wants a meep, but I'm not content with the price. Ol China tablet specs.
get her the nexus 7, or the samsung galaxy tab 2 7" (it has a memory card slot. Dont buy any of those foreign tablet or lesser known names. they are not that good and most of them dont come with the Play store.
