Had no clue there was a thread!! Of course there is. Found last year before last season due to the Netflix series and was HOOKED. I havent missed a Quali or grand prix yet and had plans to go to Singapore, Montreal and Austin before COVID hit. Im a big fan of this sport. Its amazing.

Leclerc was my favorite then he had that soft ass stance on the protests in America for George Floyd and I was done.

Now im more of a Sainz, Ricciardo and Hamilton fan.

lol. As soon as I saw all that rain I knew it was over. Lewis is a Rain Master. And nobody manages tires like he does. Nobody.

Congrats to the almost GOAT. I still think Fangio is just a teeny bit better But if Lewis has one or two more seasons like this, then he's the GOAT without question.

If you wonder why I say Fangio, first take a look at the circuits they were driving on. Take a look at the shit he did; like the German GP on the Ring. Then, if you're fortunate enough to visit a museum with F1 cars look at the stuff they were driving. Pictures can't convey what deathtraps they were.

Just finished watching the race. So mad I didn't realize it started earlier than normal today. I always say enjoy this domination with Lewis, it's an exceptional thing to see and by a Black with exceptional talent. Once he's gone from F1, it won't be the same.

they just made a good point that makes you think... what if he had been knocked unconscious and couldn't start the process of getting himself out as quickly as he did? :smh:

a post from the Ferrari Chat forum:

The French TV host started to cry because he received a message from Bianchi’s mother telling him that she was happy to see that Jules' death had imposed the halo that saved Grosjean today.

not sure about it's validity so take it for what it's worth

Halo saved that man’s life. Note the cockpit actually went through the barrier. No halo and the barrier hits him on the head.

Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton will sit out this weekend's Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain following a positive COVID-19 test.

The FIA confirmed in a statement that the world champion was now being isolated, and his contacts had been traced.

It read: “ The FIA, Formula 1 and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team can today confirm that during mandatory pre-race PCR testing for the Sakhir Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19.

"In accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain he is now isolating. All contacts have been declared. The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 will ensure no wider impact on this weekend’s event."

Mercedes says it will announce the name of Hamilton's replacement “in due course.”

The team’s official reserve drivers are Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez, although Nico Hulkenberg – who has raced three times for Racing Point this year – is a possible candidate.

Mercedes said in a statement that it “regrets to announce that Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to take part in this weekend's Sakhir GP.

“Lewis was tested three times last week and returned a negative result each time, the last of which was on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit as part of the standard race weekend testing programme.

“However, he woke up on Monday morning with mild symptoms and was informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive. Lewis therefore took a further test and returned a positive result. This has since been confirmed by a retest.

“Lewis is now isolating in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain. Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and well, and the entire team sends him its very best wishes for a swift recovery.

“We will announce our replacement driver plans for this weekend in due course.”

Vandoorne is currently on Formula E pre-season testing duties for Mercedes in Valencia, but was always due to travel to Bahrain after that in his capacity as reserve driver.

I hope he quickly recovers....

I wonder who his replacement will be for the next race... It will be interesting to see how they perform in his car.

Part of me wants Hulk so he can finally get a podium or win and the other side wants to see what Russell can do. Vandoorne is their reserve, but he’s a flop to me.

Very good point. I have no idea who Merc's reserve/test drivers are. I have to check the regs because the sub has to get cockpit time for fitment if nothing else. And they won't exactly be driving Lewis' car; so many settings will be changed but I take your point. Too bad Merc doesn't have any woman drivers ready.

This addresses the list of reserve drivers and the comments might shed some light on the process.
