The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York are the biggest bully union on the face of the earth... They have more leverage than any other union and they love to show their asses... He started to take some power away from them. A mayor is supposed to stand for every citizen in that city, not just the police officers. The police officers are supposed to stand for the citizens as well, but their "power" has gone to their head and now they think they are better than citizens. The law is the law if you want to be fair, and no one citizen should ever be above that.
And they pull this shit at the funeral of a dead officer whose family invited the mayor to the service. Beyond unprofessional and disrespectful.

DeBlasio won't even defend his Black Wife and kids against all the racist media and police comments, tweets, etc. I'm glad I didn't vote for him. In the back of my mind, I knew a "racial test" like Eric Garner was going to happen. And I knew his response would be weak. He kow-towed to the racist police union and media of this city.
I'm not so mad at The DeBlasios' marriage than I'm am at the fact that he got at least 95% of the Black vote in this city during the general election, primarily by using his family as a campaign tactic. And over a Black Man, Bill Thompson during the initial Democratic Primary. Now Dude can't or won't even speak up for his Black constituency. That's what upsets me about him.
If he stood up to Pat LYNCH and put Bill Bratton (a Ghouliani-choice who he should not have hired in the first place) in his place, then I would give him some props.
But this is another case of the Political Italians (DeBlasio/Cuomo) and Irish (Bratton/LYNCH) having one another's back at the expense of their Black (along with Latino and working class) constituency.

Maybe not, a lot of the uniformed municipal workers are in contract arbitration. If he plans on running for reelection He's gonna have smooth things over with the uniformed staff(NYPD, NYDOC). Nothing heals wounds and smooths thing over like money.

You can actually battle some of the politics that happens in the south. Maybe a lot had to do with the Civil Rights Movement, but in NC, racism is more of "Fuck you n*gger" with little politics behind it. Plus, NC is change very quickly from it's old conservative views. Up north though, the politics are serious. I don't remember the police departments down here pulling a stunt like the NYPD.
How is it different out West? I know little about what goes on in the West other than the LAPDs antics.
It's different in da way that it's more subtle but transparent to those that are privy. I'm in Vegas. Not LA....yet.
