Why would you want to buy a machine that has a celeron processor and 512mb of ram with vista. That POS is a slug, you better off gettin that Hp on the front cover. Vista is a memory hog and you will still need to put AV protection on it as well. With the bottom of the barrel celeron hat thing is going to run like a ford fiesta. Trust me when I say it, this is not a good buy.

Ram is cheap. You can catch it on sale for about $30 or less for 1 gig.

All I really do is surf the web so I think I'll be ok.

As far as the celeron with vista that remains to be seen.

BTW I currently own own the hp on the cover. It's going back mainly because the built-in SD card reader is not SDHC compatible.
(Plus I feel the specs are a little overkill for surfing the web.)

So fuck it. I figure I'll just get something cheap now then wait for models that are SDHC compatible to come out.
I know that there are external card readers out there that will do the job but I prefer to have it built in.

I bought my kids desktops with celerons and vista. With AV and anti-spyware running it took MS Word over 2 minutes to load. They got fed up, I got fed up so I returned them and bought them Mac Mini's it was a little more money but so much less headache. Im not a real big fan of any MS OS, but Vista has to be just as bad as ME.

Sounds more like a ram issue to me.

How much ram did it have?

They had 1 gig, and it was a ram issue. Vista needs 1 gig to operate efficiently buy it's self thats not including all the other shit that is running in the background. Plus the Celeron can only process 1 instruction at a time unlike some of the new dual-core processors that can process anywhere from 2-4 intructions at once. Not to mention the it has a 512mb cache and slow FSB speed. All in all I guess you can return it if you don't like and pay the 15% restocking fee BB has for laptops.

The Celeron that this laptop has is Intel Celeron M 520 which has a 1MB L2 cache 1.60 GHz clock speed and a 533 MHz FSB.

2-4 instructions at a time seems to be overkill for just surfing the web.

But I never tried vista therefore I don't know how much it really slows down a computer.
But I'll soon find out if what you are saying is true.

cheap does not = good quality! I don't understand why people still but celeron processing computers it's a waste of money. why not spend the extra and get some shit that's gonna not freeze after 2 days.

Vista + 512mb of RAM + Celeron = YOU'LL BE BUYING A NEW CPU IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS or upgrading it and it'll cost as much as something decent in the first place!

youngfocus u hit right on the head waiting on black friday to pick up 2 hdtv and i will be at bb at 300am

Well I went ahead and bought that $300 laptop today for $549. I'm gonna pricematch it on Sunday to get the $300 price. Two different sales people specifically told me I could price match it so I think I'm good.

I wanna test it to see if other peoples theories are correct but I'm gonna wait just in case they bullshit me on the price match. Because if the bullshit me on the price match then I'll just return it without having to pay the restocking fee.
There were 20 in stock when I went.

I got to Best Buy right after the cowboys game last year & the line was already about 60 deep:(. I got the last 42inch Panasonic plasma they had on sale. The worse part was some of the people in the line started having extra family members show up in the morning screwing up chances at the limited quantity items. The guy behind me missed out on a laptop because of that.:smh:

You'll be ok with the $300 laptop. What everybody is telling you is true, and you will find out soon. It is very slow out of the box. But all you have to do is add more ram. The max is 2 gigs. Trust me, go ahead and max it out. You won't regret it. Hope this helps.
