Planning to buy a replacement by the end of the day and looking for some guidance to get the best quality.
I've never spent more than about $250 on a laptop and I've been happy with what that has gotten me but I'm willing to go up to around $400 if there is a big difference.
This is where my search led me-- I was pretty close to just closing the deal on this one:
$370: Asus F555LA-AB31 15.6-Inch Laptop (2.1 GHz Core i3-5010U Processor,4 GB RAM,500 GB Hard Drive, Windows 10), Black
$332: Asus X540LA-SI30205P 15.6-Inch Laptop (Intel Core i3, 4GB Memory,1TB Hard Drive, Windows 10 Home), Silver
I looked at @playahaitian's thread "Need Some Tech Help, I'm Looking for a budget laptop...for under 300" and this comment worried me...
Is this the general consensus with ASUS products? The two I was looking at were very well-reviewed. The main things I do online are streaming and reading, leaving tab after tab open so I can move to the next item on my list, so I don't want a slow ass computer.
Also, general guidance like this is useful, especially paired with items that meet that criteria for the tech-blind among us:
$400 isn't a hard limit for me but I think there are diminishing returns the further you get past $350 from what I see... My computer usage is pretty ordinary so I don't feel the need to pay for anything extraordinary. Just want the best quality at the best value.
