11.6-inch display is a little small for gaming.

normally yes...BUT...this is an Alienware laptop...and that changes EVERYTHING

dedicated GPU, 50FPS Crysis gaming, A Core2Duo, an 11-inch screen...and 6.5 hrs of battery life...are you REALLY gonna worry about that screen size....no not wen you are gonna use it as the OP intends to

keep in mind the op said UNDER 1000 BUX.....

here is a review of one of these asus laptops....

What's great about it: Amazing preformance, Great Graphics, perfect HD videos

"Wow were to start.. well I will fist say this is a great computer to buy. I payed 1,000 dollars at Best buy for it. The light up keyboard is extreamly helpful. I have it on most of the time, unless I am watching a movie or its bright enough. batterie life is ok. I mean it is useing a GTX 260m so it eats up a lot of power.

Games:
lets start with Crysis. Crysis Truly if you want perfect performance run it on High. or on Very High with a slightly smaller resolution. but I played through the entire Crysis Campaign on Very High. full resolution. I'm guessing it gets about 25-28 fps on Very High. to get that FPS you half to keep this thing decently cool. wich means an air conditioned house. Crysis gets the GPU up to 95 C. so don't be shocked thats normal. but really play it on very high it works great. Just keep it in cooler conditions if your going to.

Crysis War Head runs great on Enthusiest. full resolution. little to no lag on Crysis War head. but Crysis on Very High is deafently the max this thing can handle. any higher no can do.

I play the new Game Avatar on the Highest settings with 4x aa and have little to no lag.

HD videos: Perfect HD Nothing to say about that but Perfect. Never had it skip once on an HD video.

but really awsome computer to get. handles games extreamly well. if your going to get a Gaming laptop this is the one to get. the GPU and proccesor have a Filter on the Vent to stop any dust from getting inside. so I am guessing your going to have this computer a long time."

again......

What's great about it: Nvidia GTX video, Looks Good, Plays all the Games
What's not so great: Battery but hey it's a gaming laptop

"Before I purchased this laptop I did a lot of research, I was thinking of going with alienware but the same system with the same specs from them, cost well over 1,600 dollars. So I purchased this one I've been gaming since Day 1 this system can run Crysis at high settings and not ever strutter, The main thing that really set's this laptop apart is the Nvidia GTX video card dedicated memory means more graphics power for all your games, Now the battery life I wish could have been better but still this laptop is my desktop replacement so it ain't going anywhere anytime soon."
