WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KOs) battered his past two opponents in devastating fashion. There was the 27-year-old's eighth-round stoppage in April over southpaw former world champion, Carlos Quintana, of Puerto Rico, followed by November's first-round knockout of Freddy Hernandez.

Berto is one of three fighters under consideration to face WBO champion Manny Pacquiao on May 7 in Las Vegas. Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley, who is viewed as the frontrunner to get the fight, are the two other names being considered.

Berto wants to test Pacquiao's reputation as being the best fighter in the world. He wants to see how far Pacquiao can push him.

"If Manny Pacquiao is the best out there, and he's the man, I want to see it for myself. I want to see how far he can push me to the limit. I'm ready for that defining fight. I don't understand the guys he's fought not punching him back. These guys just ball up and don't punch back. I don't understand running away," Berto said.

"I don't understand doing anything that shows weakness. I'm just mentally set for a tremendous fight. I will come to fight 12, hard rounds. They know -- and I don't care what else they say -- but I know that they they know that I have something inside of me."

Berto feels that he brings certain qualities that Pacquiao's past opponents have never brought to the ring. If he can land a fight with Pacquiao, Berto expects some explosive moments.

"You would see a lot of speed, and a lot of power, and fast footwork. And that's something that Manny Pacquiao has not seen in the ring yet. I'm one of those types of guys that really likes to rise to the occasion and to the challenge of the opponent," Berto said.

"If they feel that they've seen something in the past, you know, they definitely have not seen anything like the best that Andre Berto has to offer. They've seen the speed, power, and that beast mentality. But I still have not fought anybody who I can look at and say, 'He's going to test my fortitude,' like Manny Pacquiao can."

I don't know Collazo's southpaw style gave him major problems and he even got rocked. And Luis's not exactly a puncher. I think Berto would make the mistake everybody else has made and try to go to war with Pac and get ktfo. He hasn't fought anybody even close to Pac's level. Looking impressive against guys no one's ever heard of doesn't exactly make you ready for the best. Berto needs to step up and start fighting some real comp and beating them impressively before I'd say he's ready for Pac. Plus even though he's had some impressive ko's, his power doesn't really impress me, he hit Collazo with some really good flush shots and never hurt him.

Merce.... Berto knows there is no chance he is getting this fight. Berto is just trying to create some hype for himself by talking crazy.

This shit has been ordained for Shane and all this dancing from Arum is just to convince the lames who don't know any better that Shane is the best option.

Even though i've been a long time Shane fan i much rather see Berto get the shot, he's undefeated has the WBC belt and is pretty fast himself. Just think, whens the last time Pacman fought a current undefeated champ.

True, you're prolly right. Berto still needs to step up and fight somebody legitimate. Like giving Collazo a deserved rematch.

Pacquiao is probably one of the most difficult southpaws ever and I would bet with extreme confidence on Berto getting destroyed if that fight were ever made. Berto can barely deal with regular southpaws like Collazo and Collazo isn't even a puncher. Berto's handlers need to steer him away from no name southpaws like Collazo because they're all risk and no reward. There are plenty of righties with bigger names that he can actually get somewhere with.

I agree, I think Pacquiao would fuck him up right now. But does have one or two qualities that might fluster Pac. He's a rough guy on the inside, he holds alot which inexplicably no one does to Pac and could stifle a lot of his inside punching. And Berto has very quick hands. The problem is that Berto has yet to face anyone near Pac's level as a fighter, so he's basically an unknown quantity at this point even if he does hold a respected belt. He did very well against Quintana but that dude folds like origami under pressure, Williams proved that. But yup, my money would be on that fight not lasting more than 8 rounds and Pac's hand raised at the end.

Clottey would be an excellent test for Berto. He's strong, still pretty young, good all around boxer. It wouldn't be an easy fight especially if Clottey finally decides to let his hands go.

I don't think it's in Clottey to let his hands go. I think Berto would have an easy target and Clottey gets really banged up while waiting for his turn to punch like he always does. Man, 147 has really dried up...
