The Twitter battle between welterweights Andre Berto and "Sugar" Shane Mosley has continued for the second straight day. As reported yesterday, the boxers began to trade verbal jabs over Mosley's upcoming fight with Manny Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The tension between the fighters began several weeks ago when both of them were in the running to face Pacquiao in May.

Mosley - Berto, you know I make way more money than you. That wouldn't be fair. Keep your little money, I'm good.

Berto - You should be making more money... You've been fighting since the stone ages... The Flintstones were ringside...shaking my head..

Berto - This Twitter battle is a lot more entertaining then that Mosley vs. [Sergio] Mora fight and that mess was on pay-per-view..shaking my head...REFUND PLEASE!!!!!

Mosley - Did you buy it? Thanks for the support.

Berto - Naw, didn't watch it and definitely wasn't there. The next day your old lady called me about it. She wasn't happy.

Berto - Shane, let me ask you a serious question. Are you still juicing up? I mean on the roids? It's just me and you talking, nobody will know.

:lol::lol: this nigga is getting reckless.

Instead of Berto battling it out with Mosley on twitter, why doesn’t he fight someone good for a change?
January 10th, 2011

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 kO’s) has been battling it out with 39-year-old Shane Mosley recently on twitter in some of the most juvenile posts I’ve seen. I don’t see the point in it all. Berto had his chance to fight Mosley but then backed out of the fight. Berto still hasn’t fought anyone really much of a threat to him during his time as the World Boxing Council welterweight champion.

I’d much prefer Berto be concentrating more on trying to find a live body to fight next instead of battling it out with a fighter like Mosley, who is clearly on his last leg and about to take a major beating by Manny Pacquiao on May 7th. Obviously, Berto is hoping to get a shot against Mosley afterwards, and that’s too late to be fighting Mosley as far as I’m concerned.

The time to fight him was before Mosley got beaten up by Floyd Mayweather Jr last year. And with Mosley looking poor in a 12 round draw with Sergio Mora in September last year, and with the beating he’s about to take, what’s the point in Berto facing him? Berto is rumored to be looking to fight 36-year-old Randall Bailey next. I don’t like that fight, because that’s not the big named opponent that Berto needs at this point.

Berto has already plenty of fights against guys that are the equivalent of Bailey while combing the ranks of the light welterweight division to find opponents. It’s time Berto step it up a level and fight quality guys from his own division. If HBO is going to continue to show Berto’s fights to the U.S public, at least he could do is fight some quality fighters that boxing fans want to see him against. Mosley, coming off of a beating by Pacquiao, isn’t what I consider a quality opponent. It wouldn’t be seen as fair at that point for Berto to fight Mosley. The guy needs to find someone more youthful and relevant, such as Mike Jones or even Selcuk Aydin. At least those guys would have a puncher’s chance of beating Berto and aren’t 100 years-old.

Cintron says Berto is like a little girl
January 10th, 2011

By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) is very interested in fighting WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) next. The only problem is Berto is totally uninterested in taking the dangerous fight and is instead looking to take on 36-year-old Randall Bailey next. Cintron, 31, is looking to get back in the ring after having been out of action since his 4th round technical decision loss to Paul Williams in May 2010. Berto, with unbeaten record, would be perfect for Cintron to get back winning and opening the eyes of doubtful fans.

In an interview Greg Leon at boxingtalk.com, Cintron said this about Berto: “I read today that Berto is considering Randall Bailey as an opponent. Typical Andrea Berto. He’s like a little girl that runs and hides behind his mommy…I met with HBO. HBO wants to make the fight. I obviously want to make the fight.”

Unfortunately, Berto doesn’t want to make the fight with Cintron, because it’s looking like Berto is going to take for the safer pick against Bailey, whos’s fought the vast majority of his career as a light welterweight and only recently moved up to the welterweight division. Berto, 5’8″, seems to like to take on light welterweights because since he captured the World Boxing Council title in 2008, he’s defended his title twice against light welterweights.

Although Bailey is technically a welterweight now, he’s more like a light welterweight than one of the bigger welterweights. Berto would likely have his way against Bailey. Cintron, however, would be a big test for Berto and would be a big threat because of his power and 5’11″ height. Cintron would be making contact with Berto and with his power, he would have Berto under duress. It would be the first opponent that Berto has faced with any kind of power since he picked up the WBC strap against Miguel Angel Rodriguez.

The sucker shit that Berto is doing is avoiding any hard fight unless its a money fight. He doesn't realize you have to earn them probably because he sees bums like Margarito getting big fights out of no where.

Who promotes that joker, GBP? Who?

Yep, just checked, it's DiBella. That nicca need to be fired for the matchups he's setting up for Berto. Randall Bailey? I thought Cotto ended that dudes career.

I swear Berto is just trying to outlast Manny and Floyd to remain the top dog before he takes on anybody of any caliber again. He will have a crazy packed record and he can say he called out the best fighters in his division.

Dude is waaaay overrated to me. I get the Paul Williams feeling when I watch him. When he steps up to fight the best, he will be exposed.

Shit I think Collazo might have won the rematch which could have led to a trilogy and to be honest a trilogy with Collazo would have raised both of their stocks as well as give Berto a valuable learning experience.

Definitely. Collazo had dudes number through the fight, he's just not active enough and it showed through a 12 round fight.

I get the Paul Williams feeling when I watch himYeah he really needs to step up in class now for real his shit is mad suspect right about now.

Berto needs to shut the fuck up...Only ten people showed up to see his last fight when he could've stepped up his resume against Collazo or someone of his caliber...How can he talk shit online against Mosley when he could've faced him after the Floyd fight? He sure was ready for him then :hmm:

I don't call him overrated like Williams because Paul at least faced Marg at his peak, Winky, and Sergio...Berto reminds me more of a Jermain Taylor or a Jeff Lacy...riding the wave and catching big breaks while he can...

Yeah, at least Williams stepped up and didn't duck anybody. He was flawed but hey if you fight enough quality opponents consistently like that someone is bound to catch you.

Randall Bailey Would Love To Check Andre Berto's Chin

By Chris Robinson

The last time we saw former junior welterweight champion Randall Bailey inside of the ring he was involved in one of the most bizarre endings to a fight in recent times. Fighting in an IBF welterweight eliminator against Morrocon-born Las Vegas resident Said Ouali, Bailey got off to a fast start with a pair of knockdowns in the early rounds but saw the fight changed to a no-contest after Ouali went flying over the ring after being lifted in the air by a confused Bailey.

Now back in his South Florida bases, Bailey mentioned that he is set to fight in another eliminator on February 18th but that the IBF will now have to find another willing combatant as Ouali turned down a rematch offer. Life moves on for Bailey, who is hoping a tune-up victory can lead to a shot at champion Jan Zaveck sometime this summer.

A fearsome puncher throughout his duration at 140 pounds, Bailey has seemed to carry his power up well to the welterweight division, most recently evidenced by his savage first-round battering of Belgium’s Jackson Bonsu last March. A fight with Zaveck would present him with the opportunity to claim a title in a second division and there most recently have been whispers of a possible Andre Berto collision sometime down the road.

Never one to back down from a challenge, Bailey would love to lay his gloves on the WBC welterweight champion.

"I've tested every chin I have been in the ring with,” says Bailey, owner of 36 knockouts in 41 victories. “Some got past it, some haven’t. If the fight happens, it happens. I wouldn't mind it happening. That would be a great fight for me and I know I gotta go down that road anyways if I want to get a Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao fight whether it's now or later. It doesn't matter to me."

A fight against either Pacquiao or Mayweather would be the most lucrative of his career but the challenge of Berto is daunting enough given the tremendous speed and solid power possessed by the Haitian-American. Asked for his impression of Berto throughout the years, a shrewd Bailey wasn’t in a rush to offer up any compliments.

"Until I get in the ring with a fighter there's not much I can say about him,” he contined. “I judge fighters by the first round. I don't watch no tape. Once I get in the ring with you I see how you come out in the first round I can see how the fight is going to go. I'm not making no prediction on what I would do to him."

For Bailey to even be at the cusp of another title shot is pretty remarkable considering how many times the 36-year old has been written off throughout his career. Asked how he has found a way to persevere throughout the years, the Opa Locka fighter insists his December 2004 loss to one of the sport’s rising champions gave him a reality check at the time.

"I give a lot of credit to Miguel Cotto,” says Bailey of the man who stopped him inside of six rounds at the Mandalay Bay. “Because timing in a fighter's career is everything. If you catch a fighter at the right time anything is possible. He caught me at the right time. That fight told me right then and there where I was and if I wanted to stay in this game, what I needed to do. I took that as a learning lesson to get my career back on track."

Andre Berto-Victor Ortiz is Reportedly Lowballed By HBO

By Rick Reeno

Promoters Lou DiBella and Richard Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, have confirmed that there are ongoing discussions for a possible fight between WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21KOs) and top-rated 140-pounder Victor Ortiz (28-2, 22KOs). The tentative date is April 16.

"I am talking with Richard about the fight. I think it's a great fight," DiBella told BoxingScene.com. "I've heard Victor is possibly having trouble with making 140-pounds and wants to go to welterweight. He won't be the smaller guy in the fight. When they get in the ring, Ortiz will outweight Berto. Ortiz weighed like 156-pounds for his last fight [by the time he stepped in the ring with Lamont Peterson]."

Besides a possible weight advantage, Ortiz is actually taller and has a longer reach than Berto.

While the promoters continue to negotiate, industry insiders have advised BoxingScene that HBO presented a "lowball" offer when the network was approached with the idea of a Berto-Ortiz showdown.

The upcoming 140-pound unification between Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, which HBO will televise on January 29, reportedly received $2.7 million from the network. One industry insider told BoxingScene the offer for Berto-Ortiz is "not even remotely close to being in the same ball park" as Bradley-Alexander.

DiBella refused to discuss the financial details of his conversations with HBO.

"I won't negotiate through the media. We are still talking with HBO. I will say this, I guarantee this fight will do a higher rating on HBO than Bradley-Alexander," DiBella said.

Kermit Cintron Gets Very Vicious on Berto Over Victor Ortiz

By Rick Reeno

Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3, 28KOs) has fired off a vicious verbal assault after hearing the news that promoters Lou DiBella and Richard Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, are discussing a possible fight between WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21KOs) and top-rated 140-pounder Victor Ortiz (28-2, 22KOs). For the last few weeks, Cintron has been pushing the envelope for a shot at Berto's title.

"It just shows to everyone in boxing how much of a p*ssy 'Berta' is. Now he's looking at another 140-pounder, but this time it's a young buck who can't really defend himself. 'Andrea' will continue to suck [manager] Al Haymon's d**k, as long as Haymon gets him the 'easy way out' fights," Cintron said to BoxingScene.com. "No one wants to see 'Berta' fight anyone but me. I've been calling him out for a while and three times personally with [manager] Josh [Dubin]."

"I would think that a fighter coming to your face and calling out would make him say to himself 'damn, this dude just came to me and called me out' and he would said 'okay, let's do it.' I know I would give the person a shot because he was man enough to come to me about it. 'Berta' is a b*tch ass p*ssy. I would give him the world title for being the p*ssy, coward he is."

I don't know about that, even though they're having trouble selling tickets, a lot of hardcore fans have been waiting for that Alexander-Bradley showdown. Wow this is an ongoing theme, the young guys and their promoters want big money before their guys prove anything. At least Bradley and Alexander are trying to prove they belong with the big money guys. I say Ortiz southpaw style gives Berto a lil trouble. Anyway, fuck Victor Ortiz....

It's an epidemic that is killing boxing.:smh: The fucked up part is Collazo might get a rematch with Hatton before Berto.
