I've been avoiding these threads in the sport forum cause the majority of the time its the three-headed monster and they are high five-ing each other. They problem I have with these dudes is that they suck you in and then you find yourself in the middle of an argument that isn't even debatable because the other side isn't even trying to be logical most of the time. On the real though, even though I do have very serious problems with PBF level of competition, I'm real pissed because I got sucked in to a group trip with my Frat Brothers to go to this shit, chipped in and brought a block of rooms, and paid for my Airline Tickets and shit, and when the fight didn't come off, and I 60-40% blame PBF, I'm out like 2G's...so on the real, all this testing and bullshit, got me mad than a motherfucker!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol, so now maybe we can get back to the subject. BHop is just taking a fight he always wanted. And he is going to inflict a lot of pain on rjj. bhop will carry him for 9 rounds then crush him in the tenth.
Even though I was pissed at BHop at first, I realize, Dude is 45 and still one of the better fighters out there overall. He would be a damn fool to consistently challenge these young lions, sooner or later he is going catch one, just because of father time. I think it's more personal for Hops than it is for Jones. I think the only reason Jones is entertaining Hops right now is because he believes that even in his fallen state he can beat Hops and a victory over Hops will salvage at least some of his credibility as an active fighter. Jones is really taking a gamble here but just on styles alone, Jones should win. However, Jones' chin is treacherous right now.

You actually think Jones has a chance to win this fight....Styles can create for great matchup problems but I think you are still seeing the roy jones from the early 2000s... dude really hasnt look good in a long time man...unless he gets some miracle age-decreasing juice in his system, I think he will get brutally outclassed in this fight... Jones just looks like he has nothing left in the tank man...
Of course he has a chance. It's boxing, there's always a chance. I'm not picking him to win but I certainly wouldn't be shocked if he won.

I think he came back to fight Pacquiao too. If he hadn't gotten hurt in training, this fight would probably already be in the rearview mirror.
I don't think Manny has more big money options than Floyd. Floyd's never said he wouldn't fight Shane but he's damn sure made Shane wait in line, much like Shane did him twice before. Since Manny's moved up to welter, I don't see him fighting anymore lightweights like JMM and probably not any jr. welters like Tim Bradley. That could always change since he's one of the two biggest paydays in the sport but just as people shit on Floyd for fighting smaller guys, Manny should get the same treatment from the same people.
Floyd doesn't have 4 fights in him. His body was breaking down on him before the Hatton fight, so I see him with 3 at the most (whoever on the 13th, Shane/Berto winner, Pacquiao). While I don't like his options for the March 13th fight (he should wait for May 1), I doubt he's going to get someone that's going to stir the interest of fight fans. Pac picking Clottey gave him an instant advantage in the public affairs battle between the two.

I don't B fighting after the Roy fight. I think he feels he has something to prove fighting Roy but after that, what's left for him? Pavlik was a smart fight for him because Kelly's so one-dimensional and was the opposite of the type of fighter to trouble him: athletic, mobile, high energy. Jermain Taylor had his flaws but I thought before they're fight he was a risky matchup for Hopkins just based on styles: Taylor started fast back then while Hopkins started slow and deliberately. Kelly reminded me of Felix Trinidad going in and I thought he was in trouble, especially fighting his first fight at light heavyweight.
Roy definitely has an outside chance being a veteran and he's not fighting a guy who's going to jump on him from the opening bell with power shots.
This fight has a chance to be either very good or horribly bad and boring. This won't be a fight that's considered "alright" or "okay".

I know Hopkins is very respected and no one wants to talk bad about him but he's been at lightheavy since 2006 and has only fought one light heavy. Based on that, i don't see why it's a stretch to say he's ducked top comp at light heavy.
I know about all the great things he did at middleweight, I know he's old, etc. But, at 175 Hops shouldn't even be rated because he's not competing with other 175 pounders. Jones will be the first 175 pounder he will have fought in about 4 years and Jones just finished getting knocked out in the first round.
Before you guys get all bent out of shape, I would like to stress again that I am referring to Hopkins' work at 175.

To me, you've made that clear. I'll say he's ducked Chad Dawson but after Dawson there isn't much left for anybody. There are fighters sure but it's not one of the great divisions in boxing. If he beat Tavoris Cloud or Jean Pascal, no one would care. Those are fights where he would have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Not fighting nobodies isn't the same as ducking.
Any work he's done at light heavy is gravy to his Hall of Fame career.
That's what his mouth says. Both of those guys are campaigning at heavyweight. If he wanted to go to heavy, what's he been waiting for. I don't expect him to fight a Klitschko but there have been other guys with titles in that division.

Supposedly Floyd is going to fight Shane Mosley on May 1st. Ive been waiting for this one for years. Besides Floyd always have those brittle ass hands, I dont see anything with his body breaking down. He hardly takes any punishment in the ring.

No one expects him to have a second career at light heavyweight but if he is still an active fighter he can still be talked about. Is he active or is he not? If he's active than I don't see what's wrong about speculating regarding his future opponents or expecting him to fight decent competition in or above his own weight class. That doesn't mean he's not getting props for what he did in the past.
Why do you want Hops to quit with the RJ shit? I would think that would be part of him being careful about his fights as you said. I can't really think of a safer high profile fight for him unless he fights another guy from a lower division yet again.
Regarding the previous comparison with Hops and PBF, I'll just say this. These were Hopkins' biggest career wins: De la Hoya, Trinidad, Wright, Pavlik, and Tarver. What do most of these guys have in common? I'll leave that to you'll to answer.
Yeah. It means nothing for his legacy right now. To me, it is just a fight to settle an old score. I also dont expect this fight to really take anything out of him physically IF RJJ looks anything like he has lately. If he wins the fight (and he should) I think he will take a challenging fight at light heavyweight that can add to his legacy.
During the "24/7" build to the Hatton fight, he talked about his shoulders and his back hurting severely.
He's been training and fighting for almost his entire life and it may be catching up to him. It happens to all athletes at different times. Similar to young centers/power forwards in the NBA like Jermaine O'Neal and Theo Ratliff, who gain a lot from playing grown men at an early age but their bodies suffer in the long term, shortening their effectiveness later.
I'm giving him the Trinidad one because he was (wrongly)the underdog but those other fights were fights he absolutely should have won witht the exception of the Wright fight (which he ugly-ed up enough to win).

Look like I said I won't give Hopkins shit for being choosy about who he fights but come on with this RJJ shit. B-hop has still been looking good in most of his fights even against stiffer comp, but Roy is a beaten fighter. Green has some power, but when you start getting beat badly by guys of Green's caliber... you need to retire and no one should be calling you out like your still a top dog. If B-hop is persistent about fighting again I wouldn't have been surprised if he fought Green, but Roy is extremely damaged goods.
