During this pandemic it's been the mayor who's enforced the quarantine, boosted the hospitals, and housed the homeless (albeit poorly). Nobody from the feds has done shit.

On top of that, California is so blue that Joe Biden could put on klan robes, detonate a nuclear bomb in the middle of Wiltshire Blvd and still win the state.

So why should I care about which president wins when there's nothing I can do about it and the results mean little or nothing in my day to day life?

I'd rather put my weight behind Civic and state elections. Places that my vote really does matter.

If you live in a blue state, then someone like Trump is saying fuck you. Your state, county, city, etc... receives federal tax dollars. So how can you say you don't give a fuck about who's president?

the days and weeks after Trump won in 2016, BGOL blamed the loss on non voters/3rd party votes etc.

I countered that at the time as saying that no one liked Hillary and that we were tired of the status quo and needed specific benifits for the Black community.

I have. Never heard back. Found out later that Nancy Pelosi's family stands to make a LOT of money once this development is done.

That said, our neighborhood has about 1,200 rent controlled residents living in old military housing 15 minutes from downtown. Meanwhile Lennar is spending nearly half a billion dollars to put 30,000 units on that land.

This project is going through no matter what.

My goal is to ride out the cheap rent as long as I can and negotiate a good relocation package before the bulldozers start rolling.

I will be proudly voting for Joe Biden this November. He isn't my candidate of choice but I don't have a huge problem with him. I always knew he was going to be the eventual nominee. I have no ideal how anyone thought it was going to turn out differently.

I personally would have preferred someone younger and with less baggage. There was no candidate that I was really settled on, I liked Elizabeth Warren but I didn't think she was going to win. It used to be a great thing with the Democrats that I didn't feel any pressure to have to agree with everything the party wanted for but it's no longer like that. I could be against immigration but still feel comfortable in the party but the vocal extreme left is trying to change that. It's mostly whites but as you can see on the board, there's some here too.

A point I used to argue with republicans was that Democrats didn't have litmus test for loyalty like the GOP did. They literally made a list of 10 things you had to support in order to receive funding. If the Democrats had a litmus test, it was racism. You couldn't say racist shit and survive in the party for the last 25 years. That's now expanded to abortion, immigration and gay rights among many other.

I know at some point this country is going to take a huge leftward turn, it inevitable. I always say white people are eventually going to get what they want and they're getting it. It's hurting them real bad. At some point, they're going to make a left turn. The sweet spot in American politics is white nationalism and progressive policies like the New Deal Democrats. Trump was a huge step in that direction, he promised them liberal policies but failed to deliver. He's succeed in the white nationalism but the economic hurt is going to continue. Trump has appointed a generation of judges that will support white supremacy and corporate policies that have brought economic devastation on the majority of Americans, whites included. I don't know how much more white supremacy America can stand, at the cost we're paying.

I fear for the future of this democracy. Even if Biden wins.

Higher taxes or a new highway is still a lot less important than whether or not I still have a home when the wrecking ball swings.
Especially when neither I or any other Californian can really do anything to affect the outcome of a presidential election anyway.

And why would I care about where federal tax dollars go when the State gives the federal government just as much if not more than it receives? it would be far more practical to fight for California to become an independent country.

Again it's like driving 20 miles away to get cheaper gas. The amount of effort isn't no way equal to the dubious benefit you receive. Instead you get far more bang for your buck by investing your civic efforts closer to home.

I thought about this the other day...if Buttigieg was a mayor of a larger city like NY, he would be the nominee or at least stayed in the race longer...from South Bend to the presidency is too big of a jump...plus he didn't really have a "diverse" coalition around him..i dont really care for Pete but he needed more experience in running large scale operations...i just dont think the Democratic party has done a good job of identifying potential presidential candidates during the years they are in power..it's almost like they sit back and relax...during the Obama years they should have had someone in the cut to step up and not just putting everything into Hilary Clinton...
