With all the bullshit going on, has anybody else been rooting for teams other than the USA? After our dipshit "president" kidnapped Venezuela's president and stole their oil for himself, I'd kind of enjoy seeing his reaction to Venezuela kicking our ass.

Youth baseball is just one of the many reasons I constantly thank God I didn't grow up in this current version of America. I played little league baseball from the ages of 8-15 in a league with a nice field, with good uniforms, and with all the equipment we needed, and it only cost my parents $15-20 a year total to get me registered. Today, everything is about travel baseball which will cost thousands. Not many black parents are going to be able to come close to affording that.

When I was growing up, I had my own bats and gloves, as did most of my friends. None of that equipment cost more than $40, and $40 was on the high end. Today, those same pieces of equipment will run at least 10 times that much, if not a lot more. Again, that prices out a LOT of black parents right from the start.

Another problem is actually going to the ballpark. Some sports, like football, are best seen on television. But some sports, like baseball, you need to be there to get the full effect of what's going on. I grew up within 30 miles of two Major League ballparks, and at least once a year, my dad could take me to a game and it wouldn't cost a fortune, and my dad was a blue-collar, working class guy. Today if you're a dad and you want to take your family to a ballgame, with parking, something to eat, and a seat in the "nosebleed" sectons of most ballparks, the tab on that bill can run into several hundred dollars, at least. Once again, a lot of black folks (or anybody else) can afford to do that. I wish I had the answer to more black participation in baseball, but the way things are going, I just don't have it.
