Tony La Russa sings Albert Pujols' praises, but says stacked White Sox lineup leaves 'no fit' for his ex-slugger

CHICAGO -- There won't be a reunion between Albert Pujols and his former manager as White Sox skipper Tony La Russa indicated the slugger won't be joining him in Chicago.
"We have Jose (Abreu) and Yermin (Mercedes) and even if Yermin gets less hot, it's a good way to DH other guys, get them off their feet," La Russa said Friday. "There is no fit here, unfortunately."

La Russa managed Pujols in St. Louis for the first 11 years of his career before the future Hall of Famer joined the Los Angeles Angels as a free agent. He and La Russa have stayed close over the years, with the manager even joining the Angels last season as an adviser before accepting the White Sox managerial job late last year.
The two talked Thursday, after the Angels designated Pujols for assignment.
"He really believes -- and if he believes I believe -- he's got game left," La Russa said. "I'll be very interested to see if a club sees the fit because they'll get a very determined Albert."
Pujols was hitting .198 with five home runs before the Angels designated him. If they don't trade him in the next week, he'll become a free agent.
The White Sox have lost two middle-of-the-lineup bats to injury since spring training, including center fielder Luis Robert just last Sunday. But they have the reigning MVP in Abreu at first base and the reigning Rookie of the Month, Mercedes, playing DH. There's no room for playing time for Pujols.
La Russa is hopeful he will land somewhere outside the White Sox's division.
"He wants to be playing," La Russa said. "They'll get a very determined Albert. I would never underestimate him. He is one of the game's great, winning, competitive players."
Angels players, meanwhile, indicated they were still caught off guard by Pujols' release from the team Thursday.
Star center fielder Mike Trout said he never anticipated Pujols being released until it happened after Wednesday's game. Steve Cishek, one of the Angels' relievers, informed Trout that night that he saw Pujols hugging teammates and wondered what was happening. Trout knew immediately something was off.
"I broke down a little bit," Trout said of his reaction to the news, "just knowing that he's been here for the whole time I've been here, and how it can be gone just like that. It was tough. We were all in shock when the news broke and when we found out about it, but I think talking to Albert, and the competitor Albert is, he wants to play every day. You can tell, when he's not playing, that he wants to be out there with the team. I hope he finds a team that can let him play every day, what his body allows him to do, because he's a competitor. You want him out there. It was a tough situation, but Albert's in a good place and that's all you can ask for."

Trout was a highly rated prospect who had barely carved a footprint in the major leagues when he first met Pujols in spring training of 2012. A few weeks later, Trout was called up to the big leagues and almost instantly elevated himself among the game's most dynamic players. Pujols recognized Trout's greatness and evolved into something of a mentor over the years. Pujols was arguably the game's best player in the 2000s, while Trout established himself as the game's best player in the 2010s. For nearly 10 years, they shared the same clubhouse.
"I can't thank him enough," Trout said. "Obviously all the stuff he accomplished on the field, it's pretty incredible. Being able to see him pass these Hall of Fame guys night in and night out these last few years has been incredible. All that stuff is great, but he's a better person, better teammate. The passion he has for this game is incredible."

The whole runner on 2nd rule is stupid and they need to due away with it. I understand using it last year cause you didn't want to have long games with an abbreviated spring training so pitchers wouldn't get hurt throwing so many innings but we've had a whole complete off-season and spring training. Due away wit this shit.   As for Tony not knowing that rule that's what bench coaches are for.

ALL THIS ^^^^^^^

I want to say this, I hate the unwritten rules in baseball more than I hate anything ever. Just shut up about the unwritten rules. Take em and shove. Here we have another example of old white people getting upset at people breaking "rules" that don't matter. White Sox are up 15-4 in the ninth and put in Willians Astudillo to pitch. He's a position player, he's fat, it's funny. You're getting your dick kicked in and don't wanna use more bullpen guys, I get it. So when he's out there throwing 40 MPH you can not be mad if a guy swings out of his shoes trying to hit a home run, you just can't. Jared called it here, the second the video came out and we heard the Twins announcers bitching and moaning over Mercedes swinging 3-0 and clobbering it. Just listen here....

FURIOIUS! These old guys are FURIOUS! What a bunch of soft crybabies. "I don't like it up, now up 15-4 I don't like it." Shuttttttt uppppppppp. If you disrespect the game enough to throw a guy throwing 47 MPH up there you deserve to have guys swinging for the fences, because guess what, Yermin Mercedes is trying to feed his family, he's trying to make money for himself. You think he gives a shit who he hits a homer off of? If you're gonna toss that weak stuff up there than be prepared for when it goes 450. If he would have put the bat on his shoulder and closed his eyes in the box people would have said he was disrespecting the game and needs to act like he wants to be there, so which is it? Like we can't do this again, we can't debate if its okay to swing on 3-0 when your team is up a lot, because it's perfectly fine. Thats baseball baby. If you're gonna pitch like it's slow pitched softball than prepare for the ball to get hit like it's slow pitch softball. At 15-4 the game is not over, you never know what comeback is lurking, you're a fool if you don't want your guys swinging for the fences regardless of score, inning, or count.

The Twins announcers being upset is the softest thing I've ever seen, legitimately the softest thing I've seen. This is the same Twins team that had no problem when Jonathan Schoop homering off Chris Davis a few years back when the Orioles were getting killed. We've got to stop caring what the count is when someone is swinging, especially the guys in the booth being upset at it. If a pitcher gets upset, sure, handle it your way. But an announcer who gets paid to sit there and talk? Shut up dude, shut that old mouth and watch your team get crapped on. I hope we see Yermin Mercedes swing 3-0 every single time, just to make these guys more and more upset. I honestly thought they would start crying, that is how upset they were. Tears the whole way home I'm sure.

Batting averages are lower this year. A lot of strikeouts. A lot of wild pitchers that throw hard hitting people. Also a lot of home runs.

This is a weird year I still think its very early in the season though.

The Twins are responsible for getting 27 outs. The game is never over till 27 are recorded. They mad, do better. Get a pitcher in there to get guys out like they are paid to do!! Stop putting position guys on the mound. Hate that shit. Nobody should have mercy on you cause you fucked up tonight. This is not little league. Fuck the Twins announcers too. :thefinger:

Kluber throws Yanks' 1st no-hitter this century

idbyxdecbvy6jjf7a58a

For all the greatness of the New York Yankees franchise through the history of baseball, they have not thrown many no-hitters. But they just added one more.
Corey Kluber threw the first Yankees no-hitter this century and the first on the road in almost 100 years in a 2-0 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field.

White sox are my team but you're up 15-4 in the ninth and there's a position player on the mound with a 3-0 count and you're swinging? You deserve to get plunked.
