Is it just me or does it sound like Lil' Wayne may have written Kanye's verse on that? :hmm:

Has that been discussed? I brought it up and got crucified at work, but...

He said, "I don't need writers, I may bounce ideas, but only I can come up with some shit like this."

But...It sound real close...from Kanye verse to Wayne verse to the hook...

Just me though huh?

Somebody throw it up for me. Zshare ain't working right for me tonight.

yea....i kinda thought that too. but i really don't care...this album is good either way. my only problem w/ it IS it's significantly shorter than the last 2.....wusup w/ that!?

Hate to break this to you but Kanye writes his own shit. I know you won't believe it but it's true.

Lil Wayne on the other hand :smh:

His "verse" was wack, but I know I can't say that because now I hate the whole south. Kanye's verse wasn't any better to me, it's just a wack song. Shouldn't be on the album.

I doubt this will be the final version. Kind of like the Common leak.

I mean I started a damn riot at work with that statement. Played the song and everything.

I mean...Kanye is a producer right? No shame that he get a little help.

I think it was more of the Lil' Wayne thing that sparked it though.

But he is on the track.

Ah don't start that shit today man. We on some hip hop in here. There you go with that bullshit.

I just made the statement. The cadence. The play on words. The puncuation. It just resemble Wayne's "style" of rap.

Very well Kanye could have been going for that when he wrote it (Wayne's style that is)...I just said it sound a little too close for me.

And the song ain't that bad by the way. :smh:

Kanye is a rapper too. He prides himself on being both, but he got in the game as a producer.

You should listen to the last track on College Dropout he tells how he got in the game.

He talks about the day he first rapped for Jay

The rhyme was like: I'm killin y'all niggas on that lyrical shit, mayonaise colored Benz I push Miracle Whips. He said the rest of it was wack but Jay eyes lit up on that line. Kanye is actually very humble on it.

I'm uploading it now. After the song he talks, it's very insightful.

Edit: Here's the song Last Call

Prolly, but its kinda acceptible for Producer/rappers to get help with the lyric as oppose to a straight MC getting a assistance. Plus, kayne is the executive producer/ label owner of the same guy that made 'Resurrection'. I'm sure that comes in handly from time to time. That 'bow down to your knee's hit your forehead' line is beyond kanye, lyrically. ;)

My least favorite track on the album, it takes away from the vibe going on. The music doesn't blend in with the rest of songs on it to me.

i doubt it because even tho people say he doesnt write his own shyt he does...he raps and produces so there no rule where u cant do both...Kanye will copy a style before he lets someone write his shyt...remember they dont go in the booth in the same order of the song being played, the engineer can switch the vocals in any order so maybe he heard waynes verse and just copied the style....it happens

Please. That is not beyond Kanye. He is a better rapper than people give him credit for.

Alot of the time when people do a song together they end up soundin similar. Just look at classic collabs(especially ones done in the studio together) and youll see. Personally id be surprised if Wayne writes his own shit let alone someone elses.. given his history.

No need. I got the album. I've been checking for Kanye since the 1872 Jermaine Dupri album. Or the Madd Rapper album. I know about the heartbreaker joint for Lil' Kim where she didn't know his name when she saw him at the club because he was "ghosting". I know about how Dame danced on the "2 Words" joint when he first heard it.

Got all the mixtapes. Got all the instrumentals. I'm a fan.

I also know that Rhymefest "assisted" on Jesus Walks.

Point blank...this shit sound like Lil' Wayne did more than "assist" to me. I'm running with the copycat idea right now though.

Do you think Kanye decided to "step it up" since Wayne was on the track?

I dont kno where u got that idea from maybe to complex for maybe timbaland or dr. dre but not kanye...if that were the case then i guess College Dropout album was written but some unknown MC who dropped out of College and so on...on song i know of that Lp was Jesus Walks (Rhymefest)

Kanye is cocky (everyone knows this) so he would say some shit like that to keep it noted that he believes he still hot...

Decent argument. I was one of the main ones saying dude is puts the g in ghostwriter, but I think he is comfortable enough in this style now to shine in it without help.

It's not that complicated of a style to begin with. Poor man Jay-Z post-Reasonable Doubt.

But with admitted ghostwriting from Juve and BG in his "youth" I wouldn't doubt it. :hmm:

No not because of who Lil Wayne is but how the people would respond to his verse more than Kanye's...He just took his style (a lot of people do that) and wrote to make it sound similar so that people wouldnt think of Wayne more than him...

If you're a fan, how can you say he stepped it up? Oh I get it you think Lil Wayne is a good rapper. I think the correct term would be brought it down to Wayne's level. To me Kanye is way better than him on so many levels it's not even funny.

So to answer your question I think Kanye dumbed it down.

Well the line I quoted he did admit he may bounce some ideas.

Can't put it out of reason that maybe a line or two is given to him.

Got to agree to that right?

Lil Wayne is not in any way on jay-Z's level. Stop it man. Jay-Z would never say stupid shit like hey toilet i'm the shit.

Jay's verses make sense, Wayne's don't. He has no skill at all.

Naw, the credit that kanyes receives is what he earned. The standards sure have fallin' and it doesn't look like there's isn't going to be any better. :smh: Kanye is like 'bell bottom jeans' during to time they look hot, but in hindsight you realize how incredibly ugly that shit was. Don't belive me, go back and listen to his first album. Afterwards, pop in 'Resurrection' and tell me who's who.

I just think Lil' Wayne garners a little more respect in rap circles than what you are giving him.

He knows how to draw a crowd and Kanye ain't stupid enough to be outshined on his own record.

To College Dropout was classic, so we'll just have to disagree on that one. I did just that and I see it as a better album than I gave it credit for the first time through.

We talking in terms of style not substance.

Jay will rap circles around Lil' one.

Lil Wayne shouldn't get any respect because he can't rap. His rhymes don't make sense and he just uses punchlines that he doesn't even set up correctly.

Yeah I know I'm a hater, but to me Lil Wayne should never get near a microphone ever again. But since he has unlimited access to them we have to be bombarded by his mindless, extacy & cocaine induced rantings.

I like that pic...stolen!

Now :hmm:

I just said in the response that you quoted that I am running with the copycat theory.

As in Kanye took Wayne's style and wrote his own rhymes.

Reading is fundamental. :hmm:

I think Kanyes verses on that song are some of the worst on the album(and i like the album). The song isnt bad.. i dont skip it but the lyrics are uneventful. The "knees hit ya fo head" and the Cough in the chorus are the only things that stand out. His verses on alot of the other songs are much better..

Wayne has been outed for haveing other cats ghost his shit too... and i cant even say waynes new flow is like a poor mans jay-z post reasonable doubt cus frankly.. jay-z.. although he slowly dumbed down his lyrics throughout his career, he always seemed to be talking about something. Wayne be just shooting off at the mouth about all kinda shit like he reciting a randomized encyclopedia... some real rainman shit(and not in a good way). If anybody needs ritalin its him.

Style wise also. Lil Wayne is horrible and for the life of me I can't see how you guys can't see that? Has rap been so dumbed down that someone like this who wouldn't survive in the golden era can shine with rhymes that don't have a point? He never stays on topic and it just seems he says anything and people co-sign it.

Where have the standards gone?

I doubt very seriously he writes it all and I am a HUGE fan.

He's so honest about everything. I am pretty sure he will admit to some "help" with his rhymes. I'm just saying help. Maybe a line or two. Not Biggie rhyming the whole shit like he did for Lil' Kim and going "Spit it like this!"

But he working with Wayne on his new album (exec. prod. actually) so this collab is a test run of sorts. So I was just saying it wasn't out of the realm of possiblity.6

This album is big for Kanye. I'm just saying he wanted to get it right.

And as a side note. I think he slipped a little bit on this one. A little too much help from Toomp. He said Toomp helped with about 4 to 6 songs on here. Just hasn't got that soulful feeling I was expecting.

I'm still listening though.

I hope you are not a Raekwon fan. :smh:

Because I used to say that same shit about him IN the golden era.

But that's a whole other thread...

I think people like Lil' Wayne because he has taken that old stream of conciousness and flipped it for the un-celebrated.

The dumb so to speak. He relate it his metaphors to the dumbed down because seriously he is dumbed down.

But like you always say in a era with superman that hoe and bay bay he sound like a lyrical giant to that era.

Can't you see that? 13-21 love him because he the best in his lane.

21 and over already know about 3000 and Luda and Cee-Lo.

21 and under will learn soon enough and then he will either step up or die off.

Real Talk. :hmm:

If he had any help it certainly wouldn't be from Lil Wayne seeing as he has no skill. Why the industry is pushing this cat is beyond my comprehension.

I and am a HUGE fan of kanye myself, and I feel he writes all his own shit. He prides himself on being able to do both. Rap and produce.

He is above Lil Wayne's level. So any "help" from him would be no help at all.

Cool. On my end, I was actually pulling for kanye when he first entered but that College Dropout wasn't what I expected. Also, I think that in order for albums to be deemed a classic, it has to withstand the test of time. One thing that bothers me that I've noticed lately, artists hyping up albums before its actually released, claiming that it's a classic. Don't the people get a say in that matter. I've actually read/heard people claim that Lupe's Food and liqiuor is a classic. Alot of it's do to peoples dissatisfaction with what's being marketed to them. People need an alternative and kanye is the posterboy. However, there are MCs with more lyrical/flow skillsets that are being overlooked and it's discouraging.

Raekwon, no. Method Man, definitely. I can see the kids liking him, they don't know about real lyricism, so yeah that much is true. I'm not talking about them though. I'm talking about grown ass men above 25 co-signing him. That's my beef. Kids don't know any better and I take time to show some of these kids the greats and let them compare and there is none.

I wasn't a big Wu-Tang fan like that. I was up on West Coast before it was popular (since like 86)

Him being the "best" in his lane is not saying much.
