Bad Refs

It's funny you mentioned that. I was watching game 7 of the Bos/Cle series and there was a point in the 2nd quarter on a Cleveland possession where Lebron had the ball (as usual) and he put both hands on the ball as if to stop dribbling and hand the ball to a teammate. But he dropped the ball. Everyone in the free world knows that if he picked that ball up, that it's a TRAVELING violation, because he took TWO steps on the attempted handoff......

Well, not only did he pick the ball up, but he continued dribbling it as if nothing happened. Which is ALSO a violation since he had both hands on the ball...

This happened in front of the entire television viewing world. The Boston crowd went crazy (of course), Doc Rivers was doing a wardance, and it happened in front of the so called greatest refs. NONE of whom were them were "out of position" as they always like to claim, yet no one even gestured towards a call. They just completely ignored it, as if it weren't part of the script.

Don't know if the announcers said anything because my sound was off, but I assume they were too busy yapping at how great an individual Paul Pierce is or something to even care....

then came a TV timeout

I unmuted the tube and waited for the break to be over so they could chastise the idiot refs for their ineptitude, but alas, not a discouraging word was said.....

It was right then and there that I turned that bullshit off and went back to ripping music for the masses. Fuck the NBA and it's scripted bullshit

so it's not just you

It came out that Dough-naghey(sp) bet on more than 100 games. How could he fix that many games without the other refs on the floor noticing?

That's proof enough.

Kobe shooting 20+ free throws a game?

Joey Crawford calling ANY of the Spurs games?

This is scripted reality.

This is BS!!!

NBA officiating isn't that bad, IMO, but there is seniority involved in the playoffs and the oldest refs get to call the games 2nd round and above. There are always 4 officials at the arena during the playoffs (one alternate) but it seems that the ones calling the games are always Javie, Rush, Mauer, Bavetta, Crawford, Delaney, Salvatore, etc. These old geysers can barely get up and down the court, let alone have the vision to see what is happening at full speed.

 Tim Donaghy. The funny thing about him is that his offense was 10 times worse than Michael Vick's, yet his case was pretty much swept under the rug. I think he and his friends just received sentence last week or so.

Yeah, it still amazes me how a player that tosses up the FGA from the perimeter and rarely drives to the basket is able to shoot 13+ FTA per game off of pump fakes and baiting officials with his "verbal flopping" when other players like Shaquille O'Neal (post threat) or slashers like Monta Ellis and Brandon Roy get fouled every play and don't even get half as many attempts.

***EDIT***

You can toss Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd into the "how the fuck do they shoot more than 4 FTA a game" list

i'm telling y'all, the reason the FTAs get skewed is because of that GAY new rule where a defensive foul can be called on a player for MAKING CONTACT with an offensive players arms while executing a SWING THROUGH.

it's disgusting. not while making a move to the basket. not in the act of shooting. JUST FOR MAKING CONTACT (pinky on forearm is sufficient) while both players are STANDING STILL. if the O player has 2 hands on the ball and swings his arms through, the D player can NOT touch ANY part of the O player's arms.

every season tobe studies the rule book to take advantage of these GAY rule changes to pad his statistics and get FREE trips to the FT line. NOT kidding, NO joke.

Disgraced basketball referee Tim Donaghy is bickering with federal prosecutors in Brooklyn over how much money he cost the NBA by betting on approximately 100 games over the last four years, new court papers reveal.

The new filings state that he bet on about half of the games he officiated in each of the last four seasons, and the government claims he cost the association $304,858 by depriving them of his "honest services."

The rogue ref already coughed up $30,000 in restitution to the government; the $304,858 figure would only be used to drive up his prison term when he's sentenced on July 14.

But Donaghy disagrees, saying that he only cost the NBA $40,000 in losses.

Court papers also revealed that Donaghy bet on 14 games he officiated during the 2006-2007 season, and about 30 games for each of the preceding seasons starting in 2003.

Donaghy, who lives in Bradenton, Fla., faces up to 25 years in prison for conspiring to engage in wire fraud and transmitting betting information though interstate commerce but could receive a much lighter term under federal sentencing guidelines.

Donaghy and two accomplices are scheduled to be sentenced within 3 days of one another. Donaghy has admitted to supplying inside information to James Battista and Thomas Martino in return for cash payments.

Battista is facing 10 to 16 months in jail, while Martino faces 12 to 18 months when sentenced July 11.
