A Jamaican slave revolt, 1759

A group of men wielding cutlasses attack their white enslavers at the dining table in this circa 1800 engraving illustrating volume three of François Anne David’s Histoire d’Angleterre. The image was published with the caption “Soulevement des negres à la Jamaïque, 1759” or “Negro uprising in Jamaica, 1759.” It is a depiction of one of the multiple uprisings of enslaved people in Jamaica which came to be known as Tacky’s Revolt. Violence from enslaved people in British colonies in the Caribbean fueled enslaver’s fears of similar uprisings in North America.

I've been warning folks about these devils for years, months, and days.
