What exactly makes you think that only selling 50 out of 1000 is due to people doing preorders?

If that's the case then why would Sony ship one store 1000 units unless they expected that store to push 1000 units?

Another store, with 1000 units only sold 300 and that's not underwhelming?

Stop defending multibillion dollar corporations that really don't give a flying fuck about you or anyone else.

Call bullshit when you see it and demand more or accept less.

With all the cold shoulders the PLAYSTATION 3 has been getting in PAL regions, we have been looking for good news. Sadly, we haven't found any. But, Kotakuite Petr from the Czech Republic sends this:

It was for the first time that something like this has happened here. Never before were there official console launches in CR. Anyway, the whole event was held in a specialized Sony Store named Elvia-Pro in the centre of Prague. It was advertised in print and online media for a good half of March. In spite of this, my expectations regarding number of people willing to stand in line for several hours for PS3 weren't overly high. So, I was surprised to find out, that thirty minutes before midnight, the line was 15 - 20 meters long. According to Sony Czech, there were at least 130 people waiting for PS3 including some minor celebrities. After several hours, PS3 was sold out (there were only about 1000 PS3 for CR launch), which is true for all the Czech Republic.

Why February's NPD Numbers Don't Condemn Sony
Sony's PlayStation 3 is actually outselling the 360 -- from a certain point of view.
By Luke Smith, 03/23/2007
Last week's NPD sales data confirmed Nintendo's dominance at the register in both the handheld and console spaces. The Wii's lower price point pits the most heated (and arguably "next-gen") console war between Microsoft and Sony. When NPD reported that Sony sold just 127k PlayStation 3s in the U.S. in February, it's easy to suggest that the company is in dire straits, but looking at the path tread last year by the Xbox 360, Sony is actually on familiar ground.

During its first four months at retail, Microsoft's Xbox 360 was supply constrained but still managed a sell-through in the U.S. of 1.02M consoles through February 2006, according to NPD figures. With suffocating supply constraints during the November launch period, Sony's PlayStation 3 still outsold the Xbox 360 during the same four-month launch window with 1.06M consoles sold through February 2007.

Briefly ignoring just how supply constrained the 360 was during that four month period, the fact that the PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 over the same period in its life span despite costing $200 more per unit isn't a something that should get lost amidst the cries of doom and gloom for Sony's platform. How much more would the Xbox 360 have sold had supply not be so constrained in the first four months after launch?

After selling 160k units in February of 2006, the Xbox 360 went on to sell 192k units the following month before bouncing back in April's NPDs with its biggest month since the November launch with 295K units sold. That 295K units would also be the second biggest month for PlayStation 3 sales, but Sony's biggest month wasn't the November launch, rather it was December where the system sold 491K units.

What does this mean for Sony? Considering the system's higher price point, if the platform can keep pace with the Xbox 360 through the first year (while the software matures), regardless of the installed base, the system has to be considered semi-successful.

A concerning statistic between the two platforms' first January and February months is the drop-off in sales for those two months. From January 2006 to February 2006 the Xbox 360 sales trailed off 36% (250K units down to 161k units). At the same point in its lifespan, Sony's PlayStation 3 experienced a drop-off of 48% (244K units down to 127K units). That drop in sales, considering the units are available at retail, is cause for concern. Yet, despite trailing off by 25% more than its supply-constrained predecessor, the system does still cost $200 more.

Neither console had major exclusives during their first February (Virtua Fighter 5 on the PlayStation 3 sold 53K units) -- PlayStation 3 has Motorstorm and Oblivion in March, where Xbox 360 had Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Oblivion at the same point in time last year. Ubisoft's GRAW, which just shipped a sequel this month, sold 486K copies in March of 2006; Oblivion sold a combined 356K copies in March 2006 (there was a limited edition of the game, too). Yet, while software surged for the Xbox 360 in March of 2006, the system only sold 191K units -- its third worst month to date.

What does that mean? Even if Motorstorm and Oblivion-PS3 sell with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Oblivion-360 type performance at U.S. retail (the latter seems less likely considering pretty much the same game is coming to market a full year later), based on the Xbox 360's March 2006 sales, the PlayStation 3 may not see the sales surge some folks (myself included, albeit erroneously) said the system needed.

In addition to selling more over the first four months of its lifespan than the Xbox 360's first four months, the biggest software seller on PlayStation 3 outsold the biggest 360 title during those same four months. According to NPD, Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man sold 430K units through February -- the biggest selling Xbox 360 launch game over same period -- Perfect Dark Zero -- sold 396K units across two SKUs. The system is selling better over the first four months of its lifespan than the 360 and its major launch game outsold the 360's best selling launch game during the same window.

spin it however you want... the thing is selling and outselling your precious system ..and dufus that was AT A MIDNIGHT LAUNCH..THEIR FIRST FULL DAY OF LAUNCH WRAPS UP IN ABOUT AN HOUR OR TWO...You act as if the thing ain't selling...its high yes i will say that but the thing is still coming off of shelves whether you giuys like it or not its a proven fact the thing is doing better than the xbox was at the same time last year..thats fact

Good man

What you have in sony is the legacy of ps1 and ps2 being the best gaming platfoms to ever be out in the market, so beyond the high price and lackluster initial line up of games for the ps3 people still believe that in the end ps3 will probably dominate the market. People will still line up to buy the ps3 cause remember this is still the first year.

The 360 and ps3 still have a long time to establish themselves in the market, and I am guessing the next two holiday seasons will decide which is the best next gen console.

Sony will take off. This is exactly how PS2 started. It's not until the second generation of games that you will see the true power of the cell.

Check out www.PS3NUT.com I started a blog on it and will keep it popping, stay tuned.
PS2 didn't start off like that. Neither did PSOne. Those shits were selling so fast you couldn't get them shits for months unless you put money down first. Excuses... :smh:

Maybe Sony can pull out of this if they take their shots and drop the price about $150 by Fall. Competition is good for the game industry, but Sony fucked up and damn near fucked themselves outta the race. This is not a bash...directed to the usual suspect mofos.

Finally, you say something I can agree with. Sega's always been ahead of the rest in terms of the features their gaming hardware offered. This is true of the Sega's arcade hardwares and home consoles. They were the first to have an online gaming console with the Sega Genesis (not widely known) and then with the Saturn and Dreamcast. The Gameboy-like memory card that the Dreamcast used was innovative as well. Then if you lived in Japan you could actually play almost any Sega Naomi-based game that got released on the Dreamcast with your Dreamcast controller plugged to the arcade machine. Capcom heavily supported the Dreamcast by releasing any of their new arcade games simultaneously on the Dreamcast...the very same day it hit arcades! So in some way, Sega is partly responsible for the death of the video game arcades. Too bad Sega's only true failing is that they can't fuckin market their game consoles for shit. They kept all the hottest games in Japan...until their consoles failed elsewhere then they released them. They had some real dummies in charge at that time. Now they only focus on software. Sad that such an innovative group failed so miserably when they had a top notch product.

   Sony has overplayed their hand. Not the justified explosiveness that we got from PS1 to PS2 with the PS2 to PS3. This is what Sony gets. Expect a price drop in the near future to try to recoup their losses. But the big thing is not about the price...OK, its not JUST about the price for some people, EA put out a subpar Madden for PS2 and a worse one for PS3 and XBOX 360. Poor games, games that don't look as great as expected. When you have a system that costs $641 including tax-not including a game, you expect more. Much more.

ps2 sold right off the bat.
Anways how about a real answer , Prob Europe and aus are still a bit pissed about the shafting of the psps by the closing of lik sang , the higher price than the us and japanese versions , the loss of hardware emulation , etc etc. real reasons why an anticipated product will get lackluster sales.

damn rock hit em where it hurts why dont ya?
THat blu ray article is interesting, gives people the option of not buying a ps3 so i just dont see that happening. Figured the next only reason for me to buy a ps3 is for me to watch Pirates of the Caribbean . Doesnt MS have to get permission or somethig from sony? AND if they do give it to them wouldnt that be a slap in the face of GAMERS who bought the ps3 which proves that they cared more about bluray than their gameplay?

I agree 100% with this statement and I still to this day look for dreamcast ISO's so I can go buy a system.

Soul Caliber was the shit.

The PlayStation 3 doesn't have a games portfolio for audiences such as families and kids, says Stephen McGill, Microsoft's head of gaming and Entertainment and Devises Division UK.

"If you look at the PS3 line-up it's quite heavy in shooters and drivers," McGill told CVG in a recent interview. "I'm pleased to say that our portfolio is quite appealing to the masses".

"We've got a great portfolio of games for kids, families, mums and girls", he continues. "As you come into Christmas I think you'll see our portfolio expand to over 300 titles with all the biggest franchises that everyone will want".

"Final Fantasy XIII" Not Sony Exclusive?
By: Karl Schneider, News Editor
Date: Friday, March 23, 2007

According to Sony Computer Entertainment France president Georges Fornay, the upcoming Square Enix game, Final Fantasy XIII, may be a cross platform title.

"The development costs of games have exploded, and it has become more difficult to have exclusives, outside of our own games. But we have for launch day [in France] 30 games, including MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Virtua Fighter 5. Moreover, we are expecting 200 games [for the PS3] by the end of 2007...As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion."

Square Enix has not commented, but it seems they are at least thinking of taking the game cross platform.

Thats far from the case. Shit i got over 20 360 games. That $59.99 X 20 = 1,199.80 before taxes. Also i picked up the HD-DVD player at 199.99 before tax. Nigga buying a PS3 is nothing to me.

That's what they say when they have nothing else to come back with. They treat that high price tag like it's a status symbol or something. Most people on here have jobs and CAN afford a PS3 but as I've said before, there is no value in it. Why pay up 200 dollars more for a system with the same games on the other that's 200 dollars cheaper and has the same graphics and gives achievements? It's not about who can't afford it. People that buy it, buy it on the name and that's it. What do they have to play on it that I can't play on 360? Resistance? Please. Like I said, no value for the money spent.
