If you have a "pirated" copy of Vista [any version] the current update will override the genuine activation. This will then bring the activate in 30, 9, 2, or worse case scenario 0 days prompt. If it is set on 0 and you log off you will not be able to log on AT ALL WITHOUT AN ACTIVATION KEY. For some of you that could result in a lot of problems if you do not have an alternative machine. Also, if you are locked out of your system you can not run any activator apps to patch the OS which can result in the worst case...A reinstall.

You should pay attention to your task bar tray usually located on the bottom right corner of your monitor. This is where the key icon will show if your windows has been deactivated. Everyone should download the activator below and run it if this happens. It patches Vista and makes it genuine again.

NOTE: Kaspersky and bitdefender showed this as clean file but your anti-virus may not. Keygen, cracks and activators often set off your protection software but are harmless.

I got that Vista Ultimate black edition. As far as I know it has a way around the B/S.:cool:

Well that is the point..Most pirated vista versions are "genuine", activated forever". You have to keep in mind microsoft is spending millions to fight pirating so whatever solution is working for you today can be obsolete tomorrow.

Question princess, what update are you talking about? Did you get a number?

-VG

My apologies VG but I didn't. I woke up to my previously "genuine" deactivated Vista..I thought I my auto updates were off but we all know how sneaky MS is.:D

When you update, its one of the new update files that you can manually deselect. Its:
The KB940510 update has been released on February 26, 2008. I made the mistake of downloading it and it rendered my shit useless.:lol:
Yeah it got me, but I reinstalled and now check every patch's description before downloading.

read this for more info:

I'm not positive this is the same one but thanks for the info.

Thanks for this. I got hit with it too but did a system restore to get it back to what it was before applying the update.

vista owners, what does vista have that makes it better than xp? I won't upgrade unless there's a good reason for it.

Also, does anyone know if your copy of xp has to be genuine to upgrade from sp2 to sp3?

Stick with XP,Vista is nothing special. I have it on my laptop and it's ok. I always have to download patches and crap because not everything is compatible with Vista yet.

thanks for sharing. I have a copy that came with my laptop, but I'll definitely pass this on. Thanks again Princess.

wrong, since sp1 vista beats xp in every aspect, and vista is so much more easier to use, and unless u trying to install windows 98 programs everything works with vista

Questions: Is it safe to turn auto update off?

Other than the service packs, are there any other critical updates needed?

when you say that it beats xp in every aspect, could you elaborate a little? What specific improvements have you seen?

Well I'll just wait until Windows 7 drops. Microshaft is releasing a beta soon, so that means it will be out some time next year.

I don't trust those money hungry fools, no matter what they label the update.

You are the WOman for posting this. THanks.

Sorry for the slip up in words, Princess.

Praetor, please don't ask that question on here or any board, for that matter. It's just going to start war between Vista users and XP users and, without fail, there will be Apple users who come on here and slander anything Microsoft. If XP is holding up for you, then don't upgrade. Stick with it. In a few years, maybe even next year, there will be what's tentatively being named Windows 7. Just wait for that.

Praetor, understand that I'm not personally attacking you in any way. I respect you as a long-time contributor to this forum. Some of the hottest posts are from you. Thank you, by the way. I'm just cautioning you about asking any questions related to Vista's advantages or disadvantages, especially when being compared to XP.

i see what you're saying. At lease i didn't ask which is better, a mac or a pc.:lol::lol:

I have some spare hard drives, so i'll probably buy vista off ebay and then sell it if i'm not impressed with it.
