AT&T raises price of grandfathered unlimited data plans, again

If you've been on the same unlimited AT&T data plan for years, your bill may be getting more expensive.

AT&T is raising the price of its grandfathered unlimited data plans to $45 per month starting July 2018, according to a company support page and confirmed to CNET (via MacRumors).

These unlimited data plans keep getting more expensive. Even if you snagged an affordable rate years ago, you may still have to pay more. AT&T's unlimited data plans used to be $30 a month in 2015, before it was raised to $35 in 2016, then again to $40 in 2017.

Despite the hike, $45 a month may be your best option on AT&T. Current AT&T unlimited data plans can cost either $65 or $80 a month for one line. It's cheaper if you add more people though, at $160/$190 a month for four lines (that's $40/$48 per line).

AT&T points to "record levels" of data usage as a reason for the price hike. You can read AT&T's statement below:

Consumers are using mobile data at record levels and the trend is expected to continue. To help make sure we continue to provide the best service for all of our customers, a small price increase is being made at this time.

Customers who have a grandfathered $40 data plan will receive notifications of a $5 per month rate increase for the data plan. The rate increase will take effect starting with the customer’s July, 2018 service.

I got that email last night. Sad shit is AT&T is still the best option for me right now. These corporations got us by the balls.
And I just read an article about airline prices going up because of 'increased fuel prices.' Meanwhile the CEOs and execs will still be getting their regular multi million dollar bonuses.
I'm just saying that if the price we pay is going up then the bonus they get should get smaller. Right .... Right?!?!?

They could at least offer more than 22GB per month.

They kill me with that unlimited shit because it's not truly unlimited. It downgrades to 3g when you go past 22gb's. Shit 3g is worthless nowadays, that shit take forever to load. :smh:

Suggestions? Recommendations?
I have the ATT unlimited plus plan and you get free HBO, $25 monthly credit with Direct TV and another $5 discount for doing automatic payment. I used to have the old grandfathered plan which did nothing for me.

Except give you unlimited unthrottled data w/tethering. The tethering is the real prize. I never had to look for wifi, just turn on my hotspot on the phone and use my laptop on the go.

Umm.. I can tether at no charge.
Yes they throttle after 23 but everywhere has WiFi these days I never use more than 16/month.
The discounts that I mentioned above are more important to me than going over 23.

as jagu mentioned the new unlimited plan (Plus Enhanced) is worth switching to while still available. I switched last year and my bill is cheaper, I get HBO for free so also saving money by cancelling that subscription, availability to purchase data plan while international which wasn't available on old unlimited plan, get a nice deal on Directv now plan and cellular data isn't accounted for streaming directv now. Can tether and get iirc 15GB free a month

Yo..... my sprint discount plan offers mobile hotspot 1g for $10 or 2g for $20. Is it worth it? I didnt think about any of that shit until reading this thread....
