ASKED 25 BLACK people to name an old clothing brand that had the community in a chokehold

What, like urban designers? If that's their criteria, why is K Swiss on there?

Tommy Hilfiger had it for a minute. Even Spike Lee had to do a parody of it in Bamboozled. :D

No, not urban designers, urban fashion.

I can understand why some ppl would think Timberlands or Hilfiger deserved to be on the list, but honestly that was mainly an east coast thing growing up in the 80's/90's. Mfkrs in atlanta and houston weren't rocking "butters" like that.*

Conversely though, I did see cats in Atlanta or Houston rocking K Swiss which may explain their placement on the list.

*yes, obviously there were people in the south and other areas that wore Timberlands and Hilfiger. But from my casual observations, I don't recall seeing it. Especially not like I saw in my area or in videos/tv/movies based in NY/ East Coast.

Avirex, Mecca, Triple5Soul, Enyce, Ecko, Phat Farm, Helly Hansen, LRG, Parasucos, BOSS, Timberland, Starter jackets, Triple F.A.T Gooses, Gore Tex

Back when most of them were only available in mom & pop clothing stores.
All were staples at Man Alive, good times.

Avi , coogi and Ice?. Damn bruh you had a corporate job as a youngin. But for real though us Southern cats didn't know about those until we heard NY hip hop like Big mention them or cats from NY move down bottom and rock at school
Mom worked for the city, pops owned his own bizz, aunts and uncles had good jobs and hustles would toss me bread from time to time..my childhood was pretty goid

K Swiss were more popular among the females in ATL . Jordan's, Reebok pumps and classic, Air Max, Fila , Nike Cortez had made a comeback for a minute. And hate to admit it...British Knights lol. Yeah Timbs weren't that popular until NY cats started moving to ATL early 90s, then they picked up in popularity late 90s.

As for clothing. Tommy, Polo, Nautical ( especially the jackets...them joints were nice). No need for me to mention the other brands, they go without saying
