Arsenio's Cancellation Got Me To Thinking...

I concur completely. Dame I worked with in radio in the 90's and he was the ONLY black man who approached his position and product as if he were truly equal to the CACs (and they hated him discreetly) I recall him telling a major executive of a broadcasting group we don't need any of your 200 stations fuck off, you'll need us before we need you. That stations was begging for Roc-a-fella material in 1999 :yes::yes:

Most black people feel the need to cower to whites because they have most of the resources, to keep what little they have, don't risk upsetting those in power. Will Smith, Denzel, Oprah all know Michael Jackson died broke, they got the warning (be afraid) stay obedient. Prince on the other hand never gave a fuck about anyone else controlling him, went on a 10 year artistic imprisonment rather than cater to the CAC and went full independent...notice he went on Arsenio ? (and he doesn't do television!)

Salaries and possessions are chains too !

Prince showed the ability to be successful doing it the way he wanted to do it.

I hate to say it, but I'm not so sure other blacks could pull that off, and be AS SUCCESSFUL as Prince is at it.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try...

...but that's like saying Barry Sanders is evidence you can be a HOF running back with a mediocre offensive line.

When you're as talented AND prolific an artist as Prince, you will garner a cult following who will support you no matter what.

More MAY be able to do it, but it takes a level of self-belief that is not common.

Ultimately, though, we're either going to make that move at some point, or continue to be the bottom feeders in the white man's system.

A bit of a complicated issue, of course.

What is Conan; Fallon; Leno?

All of those dudes would fall under 'corny' if you ask me...

...but that they've all been highly successful.

You see how you're holding the black men to a standard that you're not holding the white men?

Did I state an opinion about those crackers for you to come to that conclusion?

Sent from my Nexus 7

i saw a meme of facebook which said

that blacks complain about customer service from black businesses yet order chinese food through a bullet proof window

Which comes back to psychology and supply and demand.

It is not sufficient to create something and expect customers to come running.

You have to work out that viral strategy, that compelling need

The tighter the problem/solution fit, the faster the rate of adoption.

Arsenio can easily become a producer for some young talk show format.

Young black youth are hungry.

There would be no shortage of material

And Arsenio knows the industry.

Make the shit happen.

Fuck the entertainers interview bullshit, let's do a grassroots show

Now is the time

Interesting.
It must not be enforced uniformly as I remember watching Future on The Tonight Show and Arsenio the week of his album release.

You will see it played out clearly with A-LIST Actors/Musicians/Entertainers when the go out to promote a film that is about to be released. Future is not an A-list artist just yet. You want to see the game within the game, then watch during the sweeps periods.

Even Conan caught pretty much the same treatment when he moved to TBS and still gets it to a lesser extent to this day. His saving grace was that there are more white people that will watch B-List white people come on tv late at night, than black people that will watch B-list black people come on tv late at night. And his numbers are "steady" among younger viewers.

And some in here are right....how many times do you need to see a person on tv now that we have youtube/worldstar viewing outlets?

yep. it is not about what you make but how much you own.

oprah, byron allen & tyler perry own.

arsenio does not.

shonda rhimes was about to & get on tyler perry's level....but abc threw her a bone. we will see where she is 10 years from now too.

I never considered this...why couldnt he make a deal with yahoo or YouTube and have a vladtv type show just expanded. or go on revolt tv with diddy connects it should work.

I personally felt his show was outdated and kind of boring at times. Out of all the late night shows....it was the worst. I supported him for nostalgia and because at times he did have some good guests but at the same time the show wasn't that good. If Fallon, Conan, Kimmel or whoever was hosting the same show....it wouldn't have even made it this far. That format was innovative in the 90's but in 2014 its tired.

Y'all keep using the excuse of "guests" as a reason for why his show as boring. That's not the case at all. I actually liked his guests. The show itself is what was boring. I guess better writing could've helped there.

because he is an old head who grew up dreaming of being on tv or in movies. they don't place youtube or non-traditional web based broadcast outlets on the same level. he gotta "make momma proud" & momma don't watch youtube.

when that net neutrality goes into full effect...folks like him are gonna be beggin to get on youtube in about 10 years from now. that is IF they still don't control or own anything. :smh:

Because its more money doing it the way he did. But as a consolation, I wouldn't be shocked if he took a similar approach online. If he doesn't do some form of online show, that's his ego getting in the way there. This whole Reading Rainbow/Levar Burton Kickstarter thing is a prime example of taking shit online when the networks don't want to fund it.

On the flipside, black businesses need to treat their black customers with respect.

Many black businesses I've been to provide horrible customer service, making me not want to ever go back.

I spend my money where it's appreciated - white, black, chinese, arab.

:smh::lol::lol::lol::lol:

and those groups who "follow" your dumbass because they think you're going to steal are about "respect"

the skits sucked....monologue was poo...performances was the only reason to check in, but u can catch those on youtube.
His fans r older w/ families and jobs..so most r comatose by 11- 11:30

The Prince episode was great and I thought he should have stuck with that format where the artist performs several songs with a minor interview in between performances.

This is correctable. The first thing I would set up in a business that I am setting up would be a "secret shopper" program. I am very much aware of the belief that Blacks provide bad customer service, but i have received bad customer service from all races, and great CS from all races. If I receive bad CS I ask to speak to a manager and above and go from there, but that would not be a reason not to buy Black.

The belief that Blacks are inferior in one way or another is instilled through years of brainwashing. When I get bad CS from Black people in person or over the phone I school them rather than get mad:

Me: Excuse me, I am a Black man and you are a Black woman/man so I allow me to get straight to the point with you. Are you aware of the perception of us, not just for them, but for us as well? It is overwhelmingly negative and how do we change this? From our attitudes. It has to become a personal responsibility.

I could simply ask to speak to your supervisor and dime you out, but what would that do

CSR Rep: But it...

Me: Please...let me finish. I don't know what is going on in your life. I don't know whether you enjoy job or that you deserve better, because YOU DO, but if you do this isn't the way you do it. This isn't the way you get it.

If you want better, be better, do better. You represent someone greater than you even realize: a perception. And confirmation of that perception is the worst thing that we can do.

Be better next time, okay?

CSR: Okay.

Me: You have a nice day.

FUQ!!! YOU SED DAT!

yes I did. After I threatened to tell on her she shut up and let me say my piece. I'd like to think that she listened.

when I start my own business so big part of what I do is going to be ensuring that customer service be optimum. Secret shoppers and things like that keep your employees in line because they know that big brother could always be watching. if they value their jobs, then they will stay in line because in the end it behoove them 2 straighten up and fly right or be unemployed and these are some cold and lonely times to be unemployed.
