My rant for the day...
As funny as the segment might have been, at the same time I was embarrassed as an American, and more as a human being.
I am "old-school", been out of high school and college for 20+ years and I do not have kids, but what the Hell is being taught in schools today?
Call me geek, nerd, herb, Spock, bookworm, brainiac (and I have been called all and worst), but in the "old days", one was expected to be taught, AND KNOW a wide range of general knowledge including literature, history, civics, etc., no matter which area of study one wished to pursue -- and I grew up poor and am the product of a PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM! You were expected to know the 50 states, some geography, current events, the names of the Presidents, know who was your Senator, Congress person, Mayor, and Governor.
I am shocked at the stupidity shown on shows such as this and segments such as Jay Leno's "jaywalking". I know that they may intentionally show the stupidest people, but the fact that there are that many people walking around like that is shocking. And these are the same people with no knowledge, nor skills that expect to make $80,000/year on an assembly-line job.
In the past most game shows tested people on their knowledge. Today, with the exception of 1-2, game shows feature people performing dumb stunts. No wonder we import everything, jobs are being exported to other countries, and every medical or technical person seems to prevail from Asia or Russia.
