Are You Prepared For A 'Culture Fit' Job Interview?

This....yeah they are definitely trying to weed out foreigners and minorities....

Racism is 100% about being able to deny resources to individuals based upon race....

ETA: another reason why we need our own......
No they are only filtering out Black people who aren't into corny hipster culture. All those other "minorities" get the job.

This is some simple ass shit.

But then you are asked:

What is your favorite movie?

just say some lame ass white comedy that sold really well. something like an adam sandler movie.

What's the last book you read?

just say you like to read mysteries. everyone should be able to say a popular best selling author.

Where's the last place you went on vacation?

just name a few weekend type places in your area. galveston shit like that

What TV shows do you watch most often?

seinfeld or that stupid shit big bang white folks love that.

Why do you have to be corny ?

There are many movies I actually liked that are "black movies "

Troy, heat,braveheart,gladiator, negotiator,godfather 1&2,chain reaction

Same with tv shows

Law and order,blacklist,walking dead,sons of anarchy,breaking bad,shield,

Books

Again varied interest

Historical, biographical, crime

I get it that we can't answer with all black cultural answers but there is no need to go overboard either.

Black folks like to fish too

Just another tactic to dance around race. As a black man, I do not share the same interest as my white coworkers.

If my talent and qualifications make me a good fit why dismiss me because I'm not familiar with Seinfeld?

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

Cause you will out perform them on the job and that will crush the myth of white supremacy in their head

white fragility

What you do off the clock might matter more than what you do while on it.

Well, you finally earned that college degree from Enormous State University and landed an interview with that company you've dreamed about for years. Your suit is cleaned and pressed and your hair looks like you just got out of the barber's chair. You have done your research, know your worth and you're so sure of yourself that you're ready to negotiate a salary. You've rehearsed answers to every possible question and delivered them with confidence.

But then you are asked:

What is your favorite movie?

What's the last book you read?

Where's the last place you went on vacation?

What TV shows do you watch most often?

They are questions that you wouldn't hesitate to answer on a date or when you're trying to get a phone number, but in this setting, on a job interview, you're thrown. The reality is that they are becoming more common by the day.

The term "culture fit" has turned into a popular buzz word among human resource professionals. The idea is that for a company to remain functional, let alone profitable, its employees must be on the same page or at least in the same chapter. So if you're looking for a job in IT and you have all the necessary skills, you still may be passed over for someone who has more in common with the staff already there. It's like the guy who never came to class but could charm the teacher into giving him an A.

With the job market forcing more companies to be creative and strategic with their hires, it's important to prepare for the "culture fit" queries. Knowing how to answer the question can be more valuable than having the right answer.

Here's how to approach some "culture" fit questions from Mergers and Acquisitions and About.com.

(For the record, if you are asked to name your favorite movie, please, never, under any circumstances, say Menace II Society.)

I've previously posted on this thread but I'm going to share my recent experience with this. Back in March I interviewed for my current job. The oil and gas industry is full of folks who hunt and fish. Now I do like to hunt its something Ive done my whole life but that shit came up in my last interview. I was asked what do I do in my off time. I answered the question but the interviewer said no tell me what you do when you get off from work. On like a daily basis I guess to see my habits. I was truthful and told them that I like to work on my Dads farm which is true and I love to spend time in the woods. Yes they know you can do the job but they're really looking for folks with the right cultural fit especially when you don't look like them. Its a fucked up truth in America.

Maybe it's me...I don't see anything wrong with that...I fucks with people who shared similar interests and agendas...shit becomes more complicated when hiring, dealing with people, and allowing those into one's circle that ain't in alignment.

Yeah I agree at jobs you want a certain culture or just want to see if a guy fits the culture. On the flip side I always see whites hired who don't fit the culture but they make sure we fit the culture. 95% or higher my career field is white. You hardly ever see Blacks and at my location I'm the only person of color and you best believe what I do on my off days fits what most do there. I was even asked about my diesel truck in my interview etc. Its all in the game.

Well, it happened to be true in your particular case, but what if it wasn't? Would you have simply lied about being into the outdoors, hunting, fishing, farming, etc?

And that's it...it's all game...at least until you get to a point where you have enough fuck you money in the coffers.

To an extent but I've never really had a job/career field where I wasn't like minded. Now if they would of asked me about clubbing , or something way city like I'd be hella lost. Ask me about cattle, deer, hunting , or dyi I'm your man. Ask me about partying I'm be stuck like chuck. Dude at work asked me about strip clubs I could t speak on it.

Couldn't use BGOL as a reference? :D

It is really bad when you get into a gynocentric environment and those women NEVER want to hire a "strong/normal" black male......its always some effeminent type that they are "comfortable" with.
