Are Digital Music Players replacing CD's??

Absolutely....I've bought one CD in the past year and that's cuz it came w/ a Roots T-shirt. Web>>>Harddrive>>>Mp3player. No more steps neccessary.

yeah its all media players-even on cell phones. Cd's are done(what are bootleggers gonna sell) my car just got a dvd drive so now its all dvdmp3's(over 100 lps) and once i buy the link connection its all music on my Cell phone mem stick(2gb) direct to my car multimedia player :D

Exactly...and the way Apple is taking over the digital technology and computer game..I know CD's is gonna be in the past. They are already crackin down on the bootlegers.. look at what they doing to DJ Drama now!

I could never see myself using a CD player at the gym again. Just way more music and the MP3 players are smaller and more convienient than the CD players.

In 2 or 3 more years. CD will begin to be phased out in place of cheap disposable rom memory cards.

^^^  ..I haven't brought a cd in years..... :hmm:..I keep tellin my girl to stop buying them, and to just tell me the name of the artist and the song and I'll get it for her, that's why I brought her an Ipod nano...

Wifi signals will eventually be as common as cell phone signals. Then the standard will be downloading songs whereever you are. Thats when the CD gets its grave.

A couple months ago my cd book got stolen out of my car. It had almost 300 cd's. I wasn't really upset because I just decided to buy a new cd player with a front aux input and hook-up my 20gb mp3 player to it.

Over 3,500 songs available at a click of a button. You can't beat that.

yes they are phazing out, I am looking for nice lil player that will go in IMP-SS-the ipod car audio connection is nice. I want to mount it in the center console so no one can see it.

no skips, no wating for the changer to find the song......thats great

peace
They're damn sure tryin to since retail outlets like Tower & SamGoodie are throwing in the towel
Discovery had a show about the cultural impact of the iPod and its rise from its existance; Jobs and them were taking Apple from the computer side to the music side in a 10 yr span;
I still use CDs as I dont fuck with iPod shit to move mp3s (to a car player or a bulky ass old school CD/mp3 player)
Plus data less than 4 gbs can always be moved and stored on cds so they'll always have some practical purpose

peace

 I still buy cd's for my car but as far as players(walkmans) cd's are extinct to me.When I ride on the train or the bus,I use my Ipod but once the Ipod breaks, your fucked. :smh: Replacing a cd player is much CHEAPER!! even though they're bulky. :hmm:

^^^ I feel ya
I have a MP3 player, but I still like my CD's for the reason, that one that the MP3 player will crash and cease to work. thats just the nature of electronics. I'd hate to have over 2,000 songs downloaded straight to the MP3 only to loose them.

I'd rather have a CD copy of it. and then put it on MP3.

i been thinking of making 'mix key sticks' instead of mix cd's....i can buy 200mbyte key sticks at bulk for about 5 bucks a piece...then paste the music on there with graphics and all and sell them for $10.........

gotta progress with the times

I still think this is happening because people have become wise to the record industry's game. Sign decent talent, produce 2 good tracks, then add 10 other tracks that sound like shit on the CD. So people only want those good tracks. Here come MP3's.

Absolutely. I have a 30gb ipod and have not bought a cd in years

Whether you pay or not - downloading and filesharing is the way forward

Who needs to clutter up their house with stacks of cds?

Yeah i still buy cd's and will continue to until the end. I can download them but will buy if I like the *whole album*. I Still have gigs of music on ipod/treo/dvdr but that nostalgic feel of getting out your chair and going to the store opening up a new cd from your favorite artist for only 9.99 can't be beat.

you know thats the same thing people said about records.... :D

I don't think CDs will ever die. First of all, mp3 quality IS NOT CD quality. Very close, but not quite. True music lovers will still buy CDS for this reason and also because they like getting the liner notes.

Second of all, there are still MILLIONS of people who have little to no access to the Internet or still have dial-up connections. They won't be downloading anything. I think the music industry may have to shift to accommodate more older listeners who are less likely to adapt to the mp3 revolution.

That's the shit they feed you in the industry. Not as good as CD's. That's bullshit and they know it. MP3 sound is digitally converted and compressed onto a smaller space. When played it's expanded to it's original size and sound quality is preserved. True music lovers will continue to by record albums because there is truly a warmer sound produced from it than from any CD's.

Secondly, inasmuch as there are millions who could give a shit about the net, before I did cable, I dialed up and downloaded everything from movies to Mp3's.

Yes. The miniaturization of the movie format and the fact that flash memory has gained such tremendous ground...the CD will drop dramatically in price. I wouldn't throw it all out yet though...It took the VHS over 10 years to phase out and the DVD will be around since it will take things like Holographic memory and blue ray years to become practical besides data storage.

I think that the shift will occur but I'm unsure of how long it will take. As another poster noted, many music buyers like the expereience of going to buy the physical album and getting liner notes and such.

On a separate note, I read some time ago that theatres were considering/trialing using Windows Media files instead of discs and whatever else they use now...
