Arce Vacates Title, Donaire and Vazquez Likely To Battle

According to WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, Mexico's Jorge "Travieso" Arce (58-6-2, 45KOs) has vacated the WBO's super bantamweight title because he plans to drop down in weight to face Angky Angkotta (25-5, 14KOs) of Indonesia for the vacant WBO 118-pound title on November 26th in Mexico. Arce wants to make history by winning a fifth title in a fifth weight division.

On the other hand, Valcarcel revealed that Top Rank has already requested for the WBO to approve a fight between Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18 KOs) and Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (21-1-1, 18 KOs) for Arce's vacant WBO title at 122. Donaire has vacated his WBO/WBC titles at 118 and plans to continue his career at 122.

"[Top Rank] is looking to make a fight between Nonito Donaire and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., who could be held in February 2012," Valcarcel said.

Vazquez Jr could be very good but he's still a little raw due to not having an amateur background. Donaire will finish him within 8 imo. Arce is always entertaining no matter who he's fighting. That fight he had with Vazquez was a war.

I agree, but Donaire was having Pacitious in his last fight. They need to get on top of that. He was lucky the little dude couldn't hurt him and was more about surviving.

He runs into the right dude who has a decent chin and could put movement and counter punching together and he will have problems too. Right now he is having his way with a lot of these dudes, because he probably should be fighting at 126-130.

I think Vasquez is still extremely green. Arce seemed like a man fighting a boy in there and the fight lasted as long as it did because of Vasquez's great heart. However, Arce's experience really showed and the contrast was very obvious. If they throw Vazquez in with Nonito at this point then they must really want to end his career. They should slow Vasquez down and move him like Chavez Jr is being moved. There's no need for a rush no matter how much the people bitch and complain.
