All I want is an i7 (Quad or 6-core), 512 SSD, 16 GB Ram, and support for dual monitors for less than $700.

It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. FUCK!!

I used to do that, but tbh, although you can get more power for your dollar in a desktop, a laptop is so much more convenient...and this is from a guy who once swore that he'd never get a laptop.

Yeah I hear ya. Today it'll actually cost you just as much to build a good desktop as to buy a ready made system. Plus you still need an O/S.

Good luck.

Are you looking for a PC or a laptop?

If you want something VERY specific, then you build a PC. It’s the only way that work they way you want to.

Laptops on the other hand have become so got-damn frustrating to buy now of days. Pretty much anything under $900 is going to come with some type of shortcoming. The whole processor game now of days is horrible! It doesn’t make a bit of sense of the amount of processors out there and the performance variances.

Use this website to help you sort through the processors.

I used that website to help me snatch this laptop up for my daughter. It was on sale during Black Friday for $499.

Here is the CPU of the laptop I bought for my daughter compared to the CPU of my desktop I built 3 years ago.

Here is the CPU of the laptop I bought my daughter compared to the CPU I have in my current HP Pro-book that I bought 2 years ago.
