I need not mention Dog Years by our own Dray! if anyone read some of these indies, what did you think of them?

Somewhere in this forum is a thread where I tried to do the same thing you are doing. Promote some indie titles like the ones above.

Some of these cats will dl 100 Wolverine comics before they even touch any of these. :smh:

Currently, I'm reading Knight Seeker and liking it a lot.

Next time you head to your shop - Ask them for their copy of Previews. You can skim through it and find independent comic books and read a blurb about them and order through them.

If you don't want to gamble on them take down the info from the Previews and visit their site most spots have free issues or preview copies of their books online.

Comic shops have a real and honest fear for indie books because they are a serious gamble for them. Many of the stores out today have been burned over the years by:

LATE BOOKS - #1 comes out in January # 2 comes out in December...in the mean time the buyers/readers will be looking at them like 'YO where's part 2 to the shit I bought last month?'

BURN POLICY - There use to be policy that what did not sell the stores can get back by sending the issue back to the distributed and being refunded. Some indie companies would say this and then renege on the dealers so now they are stuck with these books.

Mis-Labeling - Some indie books don't label their books or jump sharks...for example book on is about little billy getting powers and fighting crime...in issue 2 he is fighting talking vaginas as octopus men try to take over the world. They don't label the books mature and now you have readers and sometimes parent tight as fuck with the dealer for not doing X, Y and Z.

So over all it's hard for the indie guys to get a foot in the door at jump street because of what other fuckers did to them in the past.

The best bet is too look online for resource or hit cons (especially the free ones ) to meet and learn about artists. Do this even more so if you are tired of Marvel and DC.

This is an excellent series! It's got a good storyline and excellent artwork.

Chicago folk can pick up a lot of the black comics up at Afri-Ware in Oak Park.

wow 7 bones for a comic :hmm:

That's not surprising at all. When you send a comic to the printer the amount you order and how it's printed affect the price.

It can be quite expensive forcing indie books to be higher priced then the mainstream stuff.

I'm going through that right now, finding a printer with a good price point.
