I just saw my Costco has the Xbox S in stock for $289.

How is it? I know the X series is the one that impossible to get but would the A series be a good alternative?

One more question fellas.....

Is it a noticeable upgrade over the Xbox One?

looks the same to me. I have all four next gen Xboxs' and I couldnt tell the difference of which system is playing. I think if you have a decent TV you will be satisfied. I think the S is only 1080P and not 4k but that shit is the same to me

The S is great. I have 2 of them. Can easily pick it up and take it with you. And it has a decent amount of power. Now for noticing the difference, once shit starts loading fast and you start using quick resume, you will see the difference.

Yeah I want one to play gears 5 mostly, I don't game that much anymore...

I got a PS4, still waiting till the PS5 becomes more mainstream to buy.

I'm not a heavy gamer but it's good to have it around the house when you bored, trying to care less about stuff I can't control.

I bought my kids a x series and a s series both them shits look the same to my old man eyes on an 4k TV. If I were to purchase another one today it would be a s series. I am about to build a theater and will probably add a s series. just came upstairs to take a picture of the boxes and my daughter had the x series in her closet.

If you're setting up a theater wouldn't you want a Series X since it has the disc drive and can play 4k movies?

Nope nah fam. Fuck a disc. It's 2022. Fuck I look like running around swapping out disc. Hulu Netflix hbomax prime video disney+. The s would be for the kids. Probably get one of the ps5 non-disc bundle joints they have on hsn.com and be good good.

Unless it's something you know you are going to watch multiple times, why not just rent it online for $4-6? I had a Bluray player on my HTPC and PS4 and honestly for both, it was rarely if ever used, especially once Redbox stopped making it super easy to get free rentals.

I hear you but I prefer to collect and own my movies on 4k so that I don't have to worry about whether or not the movie or show will leave the platform I'm watching it on.

But as you said I usually just buy classic shit that I want to own and will watch no matter how much I see them.

Another thing is although the quality of the streams is good it still isn't as good as the quality of a 4k disc, especially when you factor in occasional lagging and the possibility of internet issues.

These things are minor but I'd just prefer to own the physical disc and have the qualitied and availability guaranteed.

I feel the same about buying Xbox games, I refuse to pay the same amount to download a game as I would for a physical copy since its much cheaper for the company considering they don't have the cost of manufacturing and shipping a physical copy.

Got my son the S for Christmas. The other week I walked by his room and asked him why he had the fan on it was cold in the house. He said its the Xbox. Damn, good thing he got the S, I dont even hear it. Loads a lot faster than the One. He hasn't played a disc game in years so this was perfect. He only has a 40" TV and the upscale to 4k looks good to me and smooth graphics. He is happy killing adults on Rainbow 6. If they only knew his team is a bunch of 12 year olds. Haha

Plus i got him the ASTRO A20 Wireless headset.

But that's the joy of the downloading games, game sharing. Me and my cousin been doing it for years. I'll buy a game. He'll get the next 1. Or he might cash app me his half on the game. Plus it beats the fuck out of standing in line at gamestop waiting for that midnight release of 2k.

The only reason for a disk (I'd get a separate blu-ray player/Plex over using the XSX), especially for a home theater, is for the lossless audio.

Streaming does decent for 1080p and even 4k. But, IMHO, streaming can't touch the audio on a disc at this point and time. If you're running 5.1+ or an Atmos setup, then a/v receiver and 4k Blu ray player (or Plex) will max that home theater.

FWIW, my not-audiophile 7.2 setup:
Polk Lsim 707s, 706c, 703s, surrounds
2 Svs sb3000s
Yamaha rxv2085
Sammy 65 Q80T
P-sonic 4k Blu ray (going to try and go the Plex route though)

I purchased the S last year around this time. With expectations of it being a secondary system, once I got a PS5. I put together a budget gaming setup with a midlevel gaming monitor. I'm an older cat now, so having topnotch graphics is not the most important thing to me. The S allowed me to break into next gene gaming without having to put much upfront. I've always been team Sony, but have yet to feel the need to get the PS5 since having the S series. I was surprised at all the quality games on gamepass. The value you get is incredible. I've yet to buy a game. All of my needs are met through gamepass. So it just depends on what your needs are.

Now I did end up purchasing the 1tb expanded memory about 9 months later. I had some Amazon points built up and used it toward that purchase. The limited space is tone of the downsides to the S. I'm good now with the extra Tb.
