Does anyone here run a website that operates like an online store? I've been searching the web. I'm looking for a program that runs an online shopping cart. The front end should be like a catalog. I would like it to have tools that monitor supply and co-exist with a shipping solution. It has to be easy to maintain. I also would like to be able to run it on a mac. If I can't that's fine too. I've found a few, but I want to know what works for you guys. Thanks in advance.

If your looking for an instant storefront you should sign up to SFI. As an affiliate of SFI:

1. SFI takes care of all the billing, credit card processing, and delivery. All you have to do is log on to your special affiliate site and see how many sales you have generated through advertising your e-commerce site online. In your special login site you also have access to training and tools to show you how to be successful with your e-commerce sites.

2. SFI has products ranging from cell phone service, health products, magazines, How To E-books etc.

3. You will recieve a free website that does the selling for you. Each product has it's own webpage.

4. You can also choose to sign up friends and family who might be looking for a simple e-commerce solution. You'll then be able to make money from their sales as well.

Here's an example of one of my SFI gateway sites that sells cellular service

(if you look at the site menu on the left hand side, you'll see all of the other products they offer in their catalogue)

I didn't have to build a site, all i have to do is promote this one and I make a great commission of every sale made from this site.

4. It's Free to sign-up

Thanks for the link, but I'm looking for more of a software program that I fully control. I already have product to sell. What I need is computer installed software that will track and control my inventory here at home as well as interact with my own website.

no prob.

i did a search for e-commerce solutions on google and www.netsuite.com seems to have the service you're looking for. Many others came up also, I guess you'll just have to find the one that works best for you.

Try x cart:::::... http://www.x-cart.com/
I used it before and it was off the hook. Now I did have to do some tweaking to get it to work on my server but I think you can buy installation if you dont know how to get around on your server. What OS is your server running on?

This e-com system is very powerful. You have alot of options on it this system.

this is what i use.....because its free and has a great support area for modifications. another key point was that my credit card merchant had the module for it.....

Thanks, With this one do you have to use the specific templates or can you modify the look with knowledge of HTML? I don't want it to look like everyone else's store. Also do you have a physical location? If so do you use the same company to process your credit cards?

I checked this one out. It's pretty tight. Do you have a link to your site so that I can check it out in a real world scenerio?

You can leave it like it is....or modify it as you wish. I opted to change the text color and a few small items but for the most part left it as is. They have examples of people who use OSc http://www.oscommerce.com/shops/live Hope you know php or are a quick learner...cause its mostly php with some html. There is a complete how to that you can print out that will teach you a lot. I have mine in a binder with highlights so I can quickly reference things. There is also a message board you can post problems and issues to. To be honest, the biggest problem I ran into was with my host and trying to get some help with my certificate.

I used dreamweaver mx to edit the php. it showed me the code in different colors so i could see where stuff started and ended. I could not test the changes until i uploaded the new file, but i am sure you could run it locally and do tests and so on.

I dont have a physical location but if you do, most merchant can get you set up for both internet transactions as well as live ones. As for addresses, at some point you will have to use your home address. A p.o. box will only fly so far with legitimate merchant service providers. A physical location is up to your local license board when you apply.
