Anybody know any good incense?

I burn incense a lot. I'm a stout Nag Champa buyer, and I always will be. But I'm looking to change it up a little. I bought some Patchouli incense the other day. I lit three this morning, they didn't smell too bad but they were so smokey that they set my smoke detectors off, which probably woke up my neighbors. Anyway, any ideas, especially from people who use incense as a meditation aid would be appreciated.

A few of my favorites are Egyptian Musk, Nag Champa, Opium, Jasmine, Coconut & Black Gold.

I've always liked these....

Are there any brands of those scents you'd recommend? Because, you know, a lot of convenience stores sell those scents but the quality is terrible. Moreover, I'm sure if I purchased those scents they probably wouldn't smell, burn, or smoke, the same way as the identical scents you purchased.

"The sweet smell of success" My uncle makes them, you can usually find them in the hood on the Ave.

That's what I'm saying, though, I'm sure the way your uncle makes them would produce a different smell, or effect, where you're at vice buying here from someone else who makes them. I could be wrong, but I think making incense takes a skill that not everyone shares to the same degree.

I used to get them from a place called "Just The Scent Of It" awhile back and they used to make them under that name. Lately I have been getting cones on Ebay from user pizzamike225. As with most cones, they're smokey, but the scent lasts awhile. You get 100 cones. You can choose up to 5 scents for under $7. They're okay. If you're on Ebay check him out. I'm gonna check later and see if Just The Scent has relocated and still in business. If so, i'll post. They have the best incense that i've come across.

u know some of them have lead in them and inhaling can be as bas as smoking a cigarette

I didn't know that, but it really doesn't surprise me much. For a while, I used to buy incense from Pier 1 imports, but if I burned them too long I felt as if I wasn't breathing right. That's why I generally don't buy incense from just anywhere.

I would be shocked, though, if Nag Champa had lead in it. When I read the lead comment I tried to read the back of a Nag Champa box, but it's writing is in Sanskrit (or some other language). Now I'm wondering if I should be even more particular when choosing my incense.

Thanks for that; I'm going to check him out. As far as the cones go, I've never bought them. Something about the circular metal holder that one burns them in always turned me off. I didn't know that the scent from a cone last longer. I might have to try burning a cone now.

Using charcoal tablets to burn non-combustible incense is a modern variation on a very ancient method. There's no doubt that our ancestors discovered many aromatic substances when they first tossed them onto a smoldering fire. As these unknown substances where gently heated they gave off wonderfully pleasant fragrances that they wanted to duplicate again and again. This method of burning incense is still very popular today, but of course we've created our modern day convenience -- the prepackaged charcoal tablet.

Self-Lighting Charcoal Tablets
Self-lighting, self-igniting or self-starting means that each tablet will light with a single match. They contain saltpeter (sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate) to help them light and stay lit. This is why you'll see tiny sparks as soon as you touch one with a match or lighter. For complete instructions see burning non-combustible incense.

Tandon Charcoal Tablets
This is very pure charcoal traditionally used for the Japanese Koh (incense) Ceremony. It's fragrance free and not made with sulfur, saltpeter or any other chemical additives. This charcoal won't add any unpleasant odors when burned which could detract from your incense burning experience. If you're sensitive to chemical impurities or just want to keep your incense ingredients as pure as possible this is a great way to go. For complete instructions see burning non-combustible incense.

You'd be better off changing over to warming essential oils over a heat source ... or at least change over to warming scented candles over a heat source. Burning incense and candle wicks can sometimes have carcinogens in them (depending on where/how they were made) The lead in wicks is there to help keep the wick standing straight. Incense are sometimes made with animal dung and other fillers and both wicks and incense make a lot of dust that collects in time over everything.

Warming a scented candle at lesat cuts out on the dust and the possible carcinogens from the wick.

Essential oils are vastly superior because they cut out the middle man (i.e. the scented candles and the incense are made with essential oils and other volatiles) that way you get more for your money because the oils will last longer, especially if you use a vaporizer ... and even better yet if you use a nebulizer.

I've never even heard of rock incense before. What do you burn it in? And how would you describe Dragon's Blood scent?

My experiences have been that when you buy a scent that supposed to have strong purification, and/or energy, values it usually doesn't smell that great. For example, when I move somewhere new I usually burn Sage. Burning Sage is supposed to remove negative energy. Still, Sage doesn't smell great, imo. Does Dragon's blood stink too?

Do a search for HOUSE OF MOHAN incense. Its made with charcoal. Less dust in the air when its done burning. Actually HOUSEOFNUBIAN.com is a good source to buy. I burn african violet, money, and khush.

But does the scent from heating oil over a source really fill a room? It's been a while, but I believe I tried scented oil before. What I remember is that it made an area smell good, but its scent didn't fill the room. Moreover, it's scent didn't linger long after I finished heating it.

Again, I didn't know that incense had carcinogens. Does anyone know what ingredients Srinivas Sugandhalaya uses in their Nag Champa?

How long the scent lasts is on par with the sticks. I actually prefer sticks, tho.

Like fam mentioned, oil diffusers are also great. Some people don't like the smoke from burning cones or sticks. It is definitely cleaner using oils. I either burn cones, sticks or use oils daily.

I don't get too technical or super deep with it. Just Gonesh and Nag Champa. Espcially Gonesh Sandalwood!

Seriously brother do yourself a favor and check out House Of Mohan (a brother started the company to boot) by FAR the best incense i ever burned. very clean burn and flavors that stand out without overpowering. Most incenses use animal ingredients and they dont. just look for that black and yellow wrapper.

I dunno. He sells a Paris Hilton type scent--who wants their home smelling like her? Anyway, I would risk a few bucks on his Koush scent, if I knew where to find it. I've never seen his products before, and his website doesn't give the locations of any of his distributors in Columbus, Ohio, where I currently reside. It's too bad too, because I believe in supporting Black Businesses.
