These are my possible cops on Craigslist. My BG. I am a student and I survive off financial aid. I need something that can drive me to school,to work(when i find a job) and around town. What should I look for? Are auctions the best? WOuld i be best buying off someone local or should i go to a dealer? Well i find these on craigslist and they are from Local sellers (non car dealers)

Just off of what I have seen:smh:

You will be doing yourself a HUGE Disservice if you bought any of those cars. I'm a dealer here in Atlanta and I just sold a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 for $2,800. It make these so called
"deals" look like crap:yes:

too bad you are in LA. I would have gone to the Auction for you and copped you something nice for $2,500.

Oh and $2,500 ain't getting you a QUALITY Honda or Toyota....unless you want something from 1995

jags arent good?
Yeah i guess ill look around for toyotas or hondas...are nissans good?

You have to be careful when buying a car with a new motor. The quality of the motor and whether it was rebuilt makes a huge difference.

I would call around to local banks and see if they have in repo's. I got a Malibu for 3000 2005 and it still runs like new.

That Jag would be nice but the maintenance on it will be high if something goes wrong. But the selling it dirt cheap for a simple misfire. Probable only has a bad coil

Op. You're not serious are you? A Ford with almost 300k? A used Jag for $2500? Cmon son. Stop fucking playing and get an Accord or Altima.

Homie just get these and pray for snow. If it doesn't snow where you live then cool, these will still take you further than the cars that you're looking at!

Look for a used Hyundai from 2003 and up with high mileage. Hyundais have become reliable cars in last ten years as well as Kias.

For used cars he will wont to stick with american. Mainly ford or Chevy. Those parts are a lot cheaper

Out of that bunch you chose I like the grand prix best but, uh, i'd go the compact/midsize japanese route if you just need basic trans to get you through school.

The accord in this first link looks clean

YO!!! That accord looks so clean for a 94...damnnnnn. didnt see these at all but thanks for the link Keef. Raspeck bruv. Im going to look into that accord and Maxima right now right now. Im kinda concerned cuz it is a 94 model. SHould i look for something in the 2000's? Are Volkswagens a good reliable model?

When people sell their used cars, it probably due to numerous problems they have with the car or an expensive repair. Most people don't look to take on a car payment.

Is there a Masonic home or old folks home near you; they always have cars for sale from the people who may have died of just can't drive anymore.

When my cousin first got out of prison, he purchased a 2001 cavalier for $950 off craigslist. It had like 200k on the dash or so. The car last him 2 years... probably longer had he got the maintenence like I advised him to.

I know it was a decent car because that damn fool never got maintenece and drove it like a demolition derby vehicle... he also had to put like 50k miles on it during that period alone.

Yes, plus they have patched it up, detailed it and put about $10 into the engine....cleaned it

Dude, take your time and search, if you live near the country ask one of your pahtnas to take you to the back roads to find a gem

$2500.00? You're looking at a beater and hoping it will last for - how long? There are ways to luck into a good used car, but finding a good mechanic and taking him with you or buying a car from him is your best bet. Unless you can get a loan and double your stack, then you'll be able to get something that'll do you right.

If you had a little bit more to the 2500, you could get a bit more reliability. At that price, you're asking for a salvaged POS.

register with GSA and bid on one of those government auctions for cars. u can get some cool sheit on the cheap there MOST times.

sheit, i've seen helicopters and tour buses selling for less than you say you have for a whip

anything jap, cant go wrong. just make sure everything works, tran shifts good, check fluids, look at engine for leaks, look at wheels for leaks. look at wear on tires(look up a wear chart), check for warning lights on dash. mileage dont mean shit.

my 4runner just hit 237k and it runs great.

leave the J30 - those parts are expensive now - they're good cars but they're old with a rep for possible electrical problems...

leave that model of the Taurus alone... they do not age well

if the Altima is clean, no hard tranny jerk in reverse, engine still revs strong when AC compressor kicks in, find out how many miles are on the Altima - that will determine how much you should pay, if more than 130k but less than 190k get him to come down to 1800 or less.

Man just get you a Chevy Cavalier and call it a day. You can get a nice little joint with relatively low miles for like $1800-2500. Anywhere from a 1998 to an 2002, 2003. They are super good on gas, and they last for a long time with proper maintenance. 100k is nothing on those little joints. Either that or cop a Ford Taurus. $2000 bucks is really For Taurus money anyway.
