6 Tips on Raising a Large Family
I have eight children. Probably not enough kids to warrant a television special, but just enough to cause strangers in the grocery store to start counting the little heads trailing behind me. When I leave the house with all eight in tow, I brace myself for the onslaught of questions regarding my children’s paternity and whether or not I own a television.

We never specifically set out to be raising a large family, but there was always a nagging feeling that there was someone missing. Now that they are all here, I would never trade our busy lifestyle for any amount of peace and quiet.

People always ask how I do it. The truth is most of the time, I just do. It’s kind of like the juggler in the circus, you add each new task in succession, while trying to keep up the ones you already have. At some point it all comes crashing down in a spectacular mess. That’s when the real challenge hits, because you need to pick up and start juggling again

Top-10-Reasons-to-have-a-Large-Family.jpg

In this day and age, having a large family is often equated with either irresponsibility or a lack of concern for the environment–both of which are nowhere near the truth. Having a large family also seems to invite comments…not all of them kind or even rational. The rude comment of, “Don’t you know what causes that?” makes me want to scream..it makes my husband nod and smile.

Just the other night, we took an excursion to the grocery store…all of us. My husband is zipping up and down the aisles with the children strapped into those car carts I won’t ever let them ride in when it’s just me, while childless bystanders count heads over and over, trying to figure out just how many of us there are.

Finally, one of them, a young woman in her early 20’s, has the courage to speak to our crazy bunch. She says to me,

“You sure have your hands full.”

Never heard that one before, but she said it good-naturedly, so I don’t mind. And then she follows it up with,

“But you sure look like you have a lot of fun!”

Now, you’re talkin’!

I'm 2 of 2 from my mother. I'm 3 of 6 from my father, he has at least 2 sisters, not sure where he falls or if there are more. Never met him.

My mother is somewhere in the middle of 12, 6 brothers 5 sisters.

You can probably tell by reading this that I don't communicate with either parent.

I used to want a lot of kids, I don't have any now but I just turned 36 and my patience is short, my girl is about to turn 43, may be hard to squeeze one out & I'm not sure she's the one. We've talked about having children, and she's cool with bringing another woman in and me possibly having more children

My mother and father had, and raised 8 together, and I was one of them. My father has at least 3 more.

Just again wanted to say yeah. It’s enough of us to make a Wakandan sequel. I’m finding more and more brothers and sisters every year :rolleyes2:
