Did anyone grow up in a household with a mother, father and four or more siblings?

The Jackson family is an American family of musicians and entertainers from Gary, Indiana.
Katherine Jackson (née Kattie B. Scruse) was born on May 4, 1930 in Barbour County, Alabama, the child of Prince Albert Scruse (1907–1997) and Martha Mattie Upshaw (1907–1990). She was left with a permanent limp after acquiring polio syndrome in her childhood. She later recovered from her illness after moving with her family to East Chicago, Indiana, where she would remain until meeting her husband Joseph Jackson. The couple moved and bought a small home in Gary, Indiana, where they birthed and raised nine children and she was a stay-at-home mother.

CAN HAVING A BIG FAMILY HARM YOUR CHILDREN?
Large families are nothing new to the African-American culture, and even in many Latin cultures a strong emphasis is placed on building large, strong united families. But could having many children be doing more harm than good to the family unit? Nadya Suleman faced public disapproval when it was revealed that she was actually mother to fourteen children including her octuplets. That disapproval turned to outrage when rumors ran rampant that she was unemployed and using public assistance to care for her children. And although The Duggars provide for their family without the help of government assistance, they still find themselves dealing with many judgmental opinions. Even in the difficult time following Michelle’s miscarriage, many had no remorse and lashed out with comments that included, “Her body is finally worn out.” “Something probably would have been wrong with the baby anyway.” Some even blamed Michelle for other women’s frustration that faced difficulties conceiving.

It brings to light an unfortunately troubling fact: For some reason people still feel entitled to tell women what to do with their uteruses. Like anything, there are pros and cons that are associated with any size family, but the topic of larger families seems to ignite some heated controversy.

I am the oldest of 5. 2 sisters, 2 brothers. We are all doing well and making our parents proud. We have come a long way from the hood.
I'm #9 of 11...
I'm the youngest of 7!
6 boys 1 girl.
Always had my mother and father.
Mad props to them for raising all of us brats!
We don't make families like they used to!
What was that like? how many bathrooms? how many bedrooms? did you ever have any privacy?

#1 of 8.
3 brothers, 1 sister
half-1 brother and sister
step sister.
No one ever been in crime, great family. Parents never had any issues with us. We did what we wanted to do with a passion to success. Rules were simple.
1. Do good at school
2. Do not do drugs
3. Respect adult.
4. Give no one a reason to come at you.

The most at one time in the house were seven. 1 bathroom, 3 bedrooms and no privacy. Vowed never to have more than one child and I didn't.

Being that I'm the youngest, by the time I can really remember anything, my oldest brother and sister had already moved out. 5 boys in the house was still a lot though!
We always had steady 2 bathrooms to use in our houses, not including my parents master bedroom.
I always shared a room with my brother that's two yrs older than me up until the age of 11.
By that time my brothers were slowly moving out.

1 of 4.

But there was really only 3 of us in the house at the time because the oldest moved out (ran away) early at 16.

There were 6 uncles and 1 aunt on my dads side and 6 aunts and 1 uncle on my moms side who both lived in the same city. So I had plenty of cousins to see and relatives to see. Our family was so big we didn't really need to make friends with anybody else we always had each other.

1 bathroom and it was all 5 of us us in 1 room, 2 sisters 2 brothers + me, moms did what she could after my dad left, no privacy, for the most part it was gravy, sometimes we fought and fussed, even thought we were cramped up , it didnt seem that way at least to me , we all had our own bed, and we NEVER went hungry, we had plenty as far as food, clothes etc.

It's weird to see how small what's now considered a large family consist of ,5,6,8 which is large now I guess but my father is 1 of 16 and 5 of my aunts each has 12-13 kids(Chicago).

They say that their is strength in numbers and the older I get I believe there is because when blacks had bigger families it might of been disfunctional but they still were a unit and they usually moved as such.Smaller families easier on the pockets but the smallest things could break them down and apart so easily.

Back in the days you knew someone by solely their last name and who were their family was;If they were street motherfuckers the whole family was street,if they were drunks and druggies the whole family was that. But that might only be my experience being in government housing.

Grew up in a small two story home, there was six of us (parents and four boys). We lived in the upstairs apartment, shared 1 Bathroom.

Could never imagine being an only child.

I have a family of five now (myself, wife and three kids). Wife and I always say if something were to happen to us, our kids will always have each other.

Privacy? Hell no. Early we had only one bathroom, 3 rooms Parents in one room, girls in one room and my brothers and I in the smallest room. We didn't get a 2 br, 2 bath until I was almost 14. We moved out of the hood into a home that my peeps still own, a 4 br, 2.5 bath, until I was about 16. That move coincided with my discovery of porn by my older cousin's crib, that shit changed me lol.

Indeed. I have 2 boys. 1 of my sisters have 3 kids the other has 2. 1 brother have 3 kids and my youngest brother has 1. I have a ton of cousins. My pops is 1 of 12 and my moms is 1 of 13.

Who is in the bottom picture? As a matter of fact, who is in the picture above that one below the Wayans?

I am the middle kid of 3, but my father is second...no, third oldest of 9, no 11 kids. His mother had a set of twins at like 14 and gave them up for adoption before having my father and his two oldest sisters. When he left, she met Mr. *******, had three more kids before he died tragically being electrocuted cleaning up a park for the city of Cleveland in '63. Had she never remarried, she would have received the check for the rest of her life. Unfortunately she wasn't that smart and married a drunk named Jack W**** and had 3 more kids

I'm one of three, but aunties and uncles and great aunts and uncles on my mother and father's side is a totally different story. I have accounted for 34 great aunts and uncles on both sides and 15 aunts and uncles on both sides. One of my aunts had 15 kids.

I'm the same. One full brother and half sister but my maternal grandparents had 15 kids and paternal grandparents had 9 so I have a gang of cousins

#2 of 9, we was po', not poor, po. There was a time when i think there were just 6 of us and all us kids slept in the same bed. we didn't have much money but i never remember having to go hungry. 9 0f us, one of my aunts had 5 kids and another had 4 so we always had fun playing

7 of us living in a 1 bedroom apartment that we shared with another family that lived in the bedroom.
