At this stage of the game you would probably get better advice from @Adam Knows than me. If I was a young guy just starting out I would just follow my passion and slowly build an audience. If you have a clean website you can use google adsense and affiliate marketing.I'd love for my bro @HNIC to comment.
Who has had or knows someone that had a website business?

Any advice?

You will probably have to advertise via Google Adwords or Facbook to get the traffic or be creative with with social media. It's a whole new world out there these days.

I periodically get anywhere from $5 to $75 donations from folks, so I know I can make more money with more effort.
I like watching old movies, so it's fun.

I did, and was successful for a couple years. Probably better than 99.9% of people who've tried. I don't do it anymore. I started because of a thread here on bgol by dredd I think back in 2011. I started with his thread but the advice on that thread wasn't that great. I used SEO to get traffic to my site so my advice will be based on that.I'd love for my bro @HNIC to comment.

I started with his thread but the advice on that thread wasn't that great. I used SEO to get traffic to my site so my advice will be based on that.
1) There are many threads on this subject on bgol. Ignore them. The advice is very generic, copy paste from Google type of useless advice.
2) SEO is hard, but "free" and the most rewarding (emotionally) if you succeed. Probably over 90% of people who go this route never make more than $100 a month. Even when going at it full time.
3) IF you want to make money, this is a full time job. You cant do it "on the side" unless you have a shit ton of money to spend on advertisement.
4) If you go the SEO route, never, ever, ever make a website about "your passion". Make a website about a non-competitive niche that you can sell. You can find those non-competitive niches by using keyword tools. You CANNOT brainstorm your website topic based on things you like. No tools. No website. And you need to make several of these non-competitive, but profitable websites to make some money. There's an element of luck with SEO. So out of 10 sites maybe 1 will make it. I had 54 sites. Only about 10 of them made any money. Plus I had about 65 other sites that were used for the sole purpose of sending links to my main websites.
5) I also did paid advertisements using PPC with Bing and Google. Bing is cheaper for the same number of visitors. Paid advertisements require months of investment before you know if a website is going to make you money or not. I did it for a while, but stopped because I wasn't gaining anything. I went back to SEO. But if you don't mind spending money on ads for a few months, then I recommend this route over SEO. SEO is hard af.
6) Adsense, affiliate marketing, dropshipping, shopify or any other type of monetization you want to use is not that important. Getting traffic to your website is the most important thing. Most of my money came from affiliate marketing, but I used Adsense as well.
I've had websites for over 20 years. Your question is kind of broad though. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Is that the same as doing a drop shipment business?
Is Shopify the best? What about Amazon?
Not the same...
Sounds like you are just starting you need to hone in on what you want to do. Everything you mentioned are completely different business models
My most profitable websites were porn related, but I have had some success in mainstream niches. These days I haven't heard any success stories of websites that make any significant money off of ad clicks without huge traffic volume. If I were to start today, I would go after those looking to quit their day job. What was posted above about SEO is very true. I bowed out of the SEO competition when Google changed their algorithm in 2011. My sites could not recover. I switched over to using social media to find my audiences. From there I gained organic followers/customers. Website biz is not easy. For every 10 sites you create, maybe 1 will create a sale.Bruh.... you had 119 sites?!?! Daaayyyuuuummmm!
Talk about experience. What did you think you did right or wrong?
Trying to make a buck. My site is free and was formerly a non profit charity. It's still going to be free. However, I will now put adds 9n it. I guess I was wondering which avenue to take. Affiliate, click thru (adsense ), drop shipment (Shopify or Amazon ), direct advertisements, etc. Being that the site has 525 pages, each a different category, the answer is simply to try them all.
Good insights. Props. Any thoughts on Fulfillment By Amazon? And what was your process in deciding what company in China to go with? Trial and error, referral, ratings & reviews, etc. I know someone who is selling a product that he buys off Alibaba and uses FBA. He says he does well as a side hustle.
that's all me.That's all you?
Good shit bro. Very inspiring.that's all me.
that's all me.
What I did wrong was making my first website about a topic I knew well. I was an expert at it so I thought I'd get traffic because of the content quality. But that's not how the game works. I wasted a year on that site and it never made me much money. What I did right was that I never quit the game. I stuck at it until I learned how to be profitable. Also, I stopped writing content and hired people for around $5-$15 an article to write the content for me. At first you can start writing the articles yourself, but as soon as you can pay people to write them. The quality won't be that great. It doesn't matter. You can revise them quickly before posting them on your site. My websites were information type of sites promoting a particular niche or product. They weren't e-commerce sites.Bruh.... you had 119 sites?!?! Daaayyyuuuummmm!
