I'm a graphic designer & use google images to search for alot of images over a period of time. So I get this call from HR telling me that IT gave them "20 pages" of "porn" sites that I had been to. I'm like WTF? So I explained to these cats that hey I'm a graphic designer that searches for images on the regular & I use google alot & that the thumbnails contain links that send you to who knows where & that it's never intentional when doing an image search. I also told them that during my downtime I do projects for practice or side work that also call for image searches. Just so happens before they called me up I had brought it to my superior's attention that we needed to open up stock image account to obtain our images. So anyway there was a discussion between HR & IT about my explanation which IT says was a very possible & logical explanation so I was able to keep my job at the end. Any of you cats ever experience this? Some embarrassing s**t aint it? Now folks are gonna be looking at me sideways like I'm a hethan. :smh:

I barely use the internet for this reason. It dont take much to find porn so i only go to certain sites that i know are clean.

I have seen people fired for using porn, and i know its got to be embarassing for them.
 
Never happened but I know its coming. Sometimes when i do a search it takes me to porn sites and i close them out with the quickness. But all you have to do is keep your nose clean. Porn at work is a NO NO. Never mix business with pleasure.
 
OK it hasn't happened to me but let me explain something to you and anyone working in an office using a lan based system. EVERY keystroke you make at your workstation is recorded and stored for future reference.

They do this to protect themselves and to track problems as they occur. So for those you who want to take the chance beware. You can't lie about it, there's really no way around it.

if you have multiple hits to the same site they should be able to tell. but if you're hitting multiple different sites and don't go down into the tree of the site, eg subpages and such, well they can't say shit. You can tell by looking at the history if someone is being intentional or not.

Man IT dudes are ALWAYS looking at porn.

Generally they are the ones causing any kind of vulnerabilities in the network.

But if you're not familiar or cool with the IT folk then definitely you shouldn't surf adult sites at work. Not just adult sites, sites that show the sick and morbid, mail order brides, jailhouse connections, how to make bombs, etc.

Those are all red flags.
 
That's why I have two computers. My work Laptop and my personal PC. Would never think of looking at porn or anything questionable on the work server.
 
Yeah the thing is..my job now has a filter that is SUPPOSE to filter out anything considered inappropriate. Now I've seen this filter a million times on my pc that actually blocked me out of numerous sites. I explained to them that I've only seen "nudity" pop up a few times. My guess is that the filter they use WILL infact block you but records where you attempted to go so if I used google image search it actually looks like I intended to go to inappropriate sites. Even though I gave them the truth & a logical reason, I still feel like shit. I was like damn..20 pages? I did see askmen.com & rottentomatoes.com as some of the sites listed so I don't think every address was porn related, that's just how they saw it. I explained this to my supervisor before HR approached her & she was cool about it. She was like hey, don't worry about it, it'll be hard for them to fire you. It's not like you sat there for 7 minutes staring at your monitor.

this is why my next phone will be "tethered" with 3G so I can connect from my laptop......keep the internet at work for looking up parts and companies only
 
As an IT guy i can tell u that yes, everything gets tracked, but the number one thing ppl do that i tell everybody i know not to do, is to use corporate email as your personal email. Maaaan u would not believe the amount of shit that u will learn about ppl. I can tell who is fucking with who, pics that should be on this site, who likes their ass licked....etc.

Got this new system to archive emails and to migrate emails over from one archiving system to another, by the time i finished this project half the company would be fired. And all it takes is one director saying i need such and such email, and it would be a wrap for that individual.



Hopefully niccas on here are amart enough not to this, but if u arent DO NOT USE CORPORATE EMAIL FOR PERSONAL EMAIL:smh:

the PC's at my job operate of a government server, i'd never even attempt to go to somethin porn related, or even semi-porn related like personal page based websites like myspace or blackplanet......

i get in trouble for hardly checkin my work e-mail for projects and assignments so as far as using it for personal reasons is a non-factor.......

i see we have some real rocket-scientists on this board :smh:
 
I got caught when I used to work at Tri-C (Community College in Cleveland). I had a computer in my office and was like "hey, free porn access". I got a call from the watchdog dept about 5 months into the job saying I should cut it out. I didn't get fired for it, but I could have. I walked away from that job a couple months later because of some other shit. I was lucky.

I never do that shit now. If I wanna look at porn, I will take my laptop (I work in an office with 1 other person who leaves an hour before me) and watch a flick. My boss is 25 miles away. Shit, I don't even try to go on BGOL at work. Why risk it?

That's how we found out this couple were fucking around when we were in iraq. They were sending email to each other talking about "I can't wait to lick your ass" or "your cum was so warm on my face" (the chick sent both emails). They were both married to other people. The guy who found it, send it out to everyone like WTF!?!?!?!?

LOL, thats my point i work at a health company with HIPAA regulations so i have to keep email for 7 years. So for 7 years i have a email sitting there that can be your potential downfall. not worth it:smh:
 
When I was in R.O.T.C, I walked in on the Colonel's secretary to find out my test scores. On his screen, I saw a bunch of white girls with dicks in their mouths with a header above it that said "Free Blowjobs".

I got a friend that worked in a office and did escorting-private parties on the side. She had a page on blackplanet and also a site with her and some of women that worked with her. She said one day she forgot to clean the history and turnoff her computer and one of her co-workers got on her computer, started being nosey, found her pages and told the boss, costing her her job

Yeah I used to work for Delta too , so I know how it is(especially if you're black). I have friends who told me a bunch of people recently got fired for DL'ing kiddie porn and sending it out over the company network.:hmm::smh:
 
Oh yeah the here is a real funny one, my sister said a couple of years ago the MAYOR in her city got caught viewing porn sites while he was supposed to be working. He was talking about how he was a CHRISTIAN and was sorry because that goes against his beliefs:lol:
 
This is a very useful thread and I hope it gets many readers. I do have much more control over my PC environment than most. I control about 75 systems in my area and thus work very closely with my friends in IS. Hell, some of them by-pass the firewall and download more porn and music than anyone I know. Hey, they are human.

Still, to avoid a record, I only use company email for business and seldom access web mail at work. Folks here mainly use personal laptops for "fun", but NEVER log on to the network with it (not needed for Internet access at our company...yet). To keep my laptop AND office PC free from "trails", I ALWAYS work inside a firewalled, virtual OS (as I am doing right now at home). Using a live CD or a virtual OS on a USB drive is what I always recommend. But as I said, I have much more freedom than most (plenty of PCs , "corrupt" IS, control of several sub nets). In addition, I usually perform most of my own HW/SW upgrades at work.

As far as firing someone, they would probably have a tough time if one stood up and fought the charge. Finding history of porn on your PC is one thing, HOW it got there is clearly another. I know people who left their office, only to have a co-worker attempt to pull up porn as a joke. I have also sat and watched people search Google and accidentally click a link that takes them to a porn site. I worked with one woman who had her browser hijacked with porn links added to her bookmarks. Any knowledgeable person in IT would understand these extenuating circumstances. If not, your lawyer will. :yes:
