Antoine Fuqua to direct Will Smith in Runaway Slave Thriller ‘Emancipation’

slaves or prisoners of war?

because there is a difference.

also, why don’t they make a movie about so-called black slave masters that owned so-called white slaves. That happened in the SOUTH during chattel slavery. Why is that always dismissed?

We don't even have all the information for what was done to us.
They're still finding graves. Still finding writings. Still finding new ways we were wronged
How can we move on to another topic when this one isn't even done?
It's like saying we found whales lets stop exploring the ocean.

I’d rather see slave movies than drug dealer thug gang movies that make up 90% of all Black films. Keep beating cacs over the head with their evil ways. They are trying to erase history and use the false narrative of Irish or whites were also slaves and had it worse. No, let these devils know what they did. Just like we have to watch 5000 Holocaust remakes.
but bro, the music you champion... please marinate on that.

My great great grandparents were slaves
So I still need people to see these movies
They have already tried to say slavery didn't exist and they were volunteer workers in your kids textbooks

But go off

That part. The same companies in Texas print the majority of textbooks for schools...in some cases slavery is summed up on 1 fucking page. 300+ year = 1 damn funky ass page.

But as was said we need to show the real atrocities...raping women in front of their husbands, forced abortions, (or worse), at least imply the savage and perverted act of "buck breaking,"....those sick depraved mfkrs really did that shit....MAKE "THEIR KIND" OWN THAT

This I'm fucking tired of Slave movies, I'm like can the directors/producers make something else? I don't even like the Roots because best believe all those slave movies are whitewash as fuck! They telling their story (HIS - STORY)

This is exactly why we need to keep making these types of movies......because the ones that have been made before have been whitewashed. Never before has there been a time where black directors and producers could fully control the narrative and choose what story to tell and whose story to tell. Imagine if Ava DuVernay or any of the new black directors did a slave movie. It would not have a white savior. It would be raw and honest.

People say stop makibg slave movies, but can't name 10 slave movies off the top of their head compared to all of the other non-slave movies.

In my professional opinion, black Americans not wanting to see slave movies is a clear case of not wanting to deal with unrealized psychological trauma. On the surface, many of you will say, "it doesnt bother me. I don't need to see it." But, if you think about that statement, why wouldn't the atrocities of YOUR ancestors from just 3 to 5 generations ago bother you. If a white man broke into your grandfather's home and raped him in front of your grandmother today, would that bother you? Of course. But here is the most important questtion.......when should you "get over it?" When should it "not bother you?" When should you "forgive" the rapist?" F'n NEVER.

White people have mastered tricknology. Tricking black people into believing that learning about all of their history doesn't matter. Tricking black people into disconnecting from their ancestors. I am willing to bet most of you do not know anything about your grandparent's parents, your grandparent's siblings, your grandparent's upbringing, where they were born, etc. Some of yall can't even name all of your first cousins. Part of your untapped power lies within your family.

Respect and honor your ancestors. Remember that they endured all that they did for you to live the life you are living. You are the manifestation of the dreams and hopes of your kidnapped and enslaved ancestors.

Brotha - they’ve found quite a bit and THEY already know everything that happened.

just assume we were wronged every way possible because, like I said, outside of ‘Goodbye Uncle Tom’ all of their movies were narrative. Even Nate Parker didn’t go as hard as he could have but it was good that he was able to put Nat Turner on the main screen.

Trust me, what all you have learned and read about chattel slavery is not what you think, remember it was started based on the lawsuit of an African (Angolan indentured servant turned slave owner) - Anthony Johnson v. John Casor.

I'm fine with this

i just want this to be last one for awhile

Where the black wall street movie?

The Haitian revolution movie?

Bass Reeves?

Damn can we get Spawn, Blade, black Captain Marvel, Jon Stewart green lantern, Martian manhunter...

First please?

And if you gonna make a slave movie?

If you must?

Make it REAL and accurate

I'm talking the middle passage scene in Amistad real.

Show that real shit!! Give us that straight to the gut uncut. I want them fuckers throw the fuck up. They need to understand that not all of us are of slaves but those of us that are come from the strongest of the strong.

people who keep saying "stop making slave movies", do you realize that one of the reasons Jews got their due from Europeans is they keep reminding everyone everyday that they were victims of Nazi Germany ?

Its 2020. I'm tired of seeing movies about Black Slaves. I walked out of Birth of a Nation when that cac raped the married Black woman. I just don't see the point in watching movies I know will make me mad.

Jews are on the same side of the color line as cacs. There's that and the fact the Bible claims Jews are God's chosen people, and most cacs are Christians.

We'll never elicit the same sympathy and remorse from cacs on a wide-scale level because we appear too distinguishable from them. Because of the color of our skin we (Blacks) don't share the same relatability to cacs as Jews do. Therefore cacs will never give us our "due" the same way they gave it to Jews.

I thought I was done with slave movies, but reading how Fuqua expresses Smith's character - moving out of the "victim" mindset, taking his fate into his own hands and braving the dangers to escape to freedom- that has me more interested. I might go see something like this provided there are no "white saviors". I'm tired of that shit. That's how these cacs ease their guilt and as far as I'm concerned, they need to stew in it.

That being said, I might check it out. It's still a maybe because I know there will be scenes of brutality and dehumanization (as there needs to be) knowing there will be a scene showing how he got those scars on his back... I don't know if I can take that without being triggered.

There really isn’t a lot of space movies relative to all black films. It’s just the ones that get made are usually mainstream.

Marcus Garvey Movie

Ideally, but from what I am seeing we tired of biographies too.

We tired of slave films, biographies, and hood films.

We don’t make horror films like that, science fiction is a big hell no, and the black man have men emasculated from making action films.

All we really accept is romance, comedy, and drama films that ain’t Tyler Perry.
