CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric
As news spreads that Katie Couric will be departing as anchor of the CBS Evening News, radio giant Rush Limbaugh says Couric simply "destroyed" the network when it comes to viewership.

A network executive told the Associated Press last night that Couric is leaving her anchor post less than five years after becoming the first woman to solely helm a network TV evening newscast.

On his nationally broadcast radio show today, Limbaugh, a frequent critic of Couric, said, "I'm sorry, Katie, but you know facts are facts. You guys might own the narrative, but we have the facts here, and 'CBS Evening News' ratings are the lowest in history. And don't think if that ever happened to my ratings, people would report that. I'm sure the stories are already written. ...

"The fact is, ladies and gentlemen, that she destroyed it. The network news ratings for CBS just plummeted."

"Here's Mr. Bauder writing 'Despite the ratings problems, the "CBS Evening News" won the Edward R. Murrow Award as best newscast in 2008 and 2009.' Now if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the state of broadcast journalism in this day and age, the absolute lowest-rated newscast wins the highest award possible. What have I always said about liberalism? Failure is a résumé enhancement. These people circle the wagons."

Fact are a bitch aren't they. Local media sucks because no one listens to their liberal slant anymore. Why do you think fox is a successful alternative? Funny how those dumb ass tea baggers were able to shape the scope of the last election. They also sent to competent black tea baggers to Washington.

Only in the most limited imagiations do ratings equal quality. "Transformers 2" was a huge financial success but a horrible movie. "Arrested Development" won several Emmys but never had high ratings. There is no correlation and it definitely doesn't have anything to do with "liberalism".

It's far too early to know if any of the people sent to Congress from the last election are competent or not. They just got there. But it's not a good sign if they voted for Eric Cantor's recent clearly unconstitutional spending bill.

CBS has been going down for a long time and Couric couldn't turn it around. Limbaugh has no room to talk since his own short stay on tv ended because no one watched.

Thats the reason Limburger and Gunner are giggling about Couric. She was the first to exposed Falin in the national media for the twit she is. The right wing republicans backing Falin thought they had their concocted image of Falin all wrapped up. That interview was the first of the reality checks of the new extreme right wing nuts, particularly female pseudo celebrities that were used as window dressing for the corpritist cause. And the right wing never forget a defeat. They will keep pounding on the their opponents until they feel they have taught them a lesson. Remember their attacks on Dan Rather? There is no compromising with this types. They don't don't look for consensus, they want to destroy those that don't think as they do.

Van Jones Calls End Of Glenn Beck’s Fox Show A ‘Triumph Of American Capitalism’

MINNEAPOLIS -- Van Jones, the Saturday keynote speaker at the Netroots Nation conference here, has a special relationship with Glenn Beck.

Asked to ponder the end of Beck's Fox News show on June 30, Jones pointed to what regular Beck viewers might see as an unlikely ally: capitalism.

"It's a vindication of the basic decency and dignity of the American people," Jones told TPM in an interview. "And it's a vindication of, in some ways, of the way that the free enterprise system can self-correct."

Back in 2009, Jones was a little-known White House official, advising President Obama on how to create green jobs. But to Beck, Jones' past as a left-wing organizer suggested he was part of a socialist vanguard in the Obama White House. Beck made Jones the focus of his extremely popular Fox News hour for weeks, turning him into one of the nascent tea party's top targets.

Beck won that round, and Jones resigned.

As Beck leaves Fox under fire from his bosses at the network and upset sponsors, Jones praised the free market system for ridding the airwaves of Beck.

"Good American businesses make a decision about who they want to associate their brands with," he said. "And if you violate the principles of good discourse and fair play in America, good American businesses will not stay with you and you won't stay in the public square very long.

"So it's not just a triumph of American capitalism," Jones said. "It's a triumph of American values."

Which is not to say Jones is done with Beck. In his fired-up keynote Saturday, Jones challenged Beck to debate him at a time and place of Beck's choosing.

Jones is currently building the American Dream Movement, a sort of progressive answer to the tea party. A short-term goal is to join forces among what Jones said were the majority of people who don't believe in balancing the federal budget without an increase in tax revenue (as mainline Republicans have proposed) to influence the budget and debt ceiling debates in Washington.

TPM asked Jones if he had the last laugh when it comes to Beck, who is retreating to a pay-walled Internet fortress to further his message after Fox made it clear it has no further use for him.

Jones wouldn't bite.

"I don't feel like I'm laughing at all," he said. "I don't think anybody gets to laugh in America until these kids come home from these wars and get a chance to get a job."

YouTube removes Alex Jones' page, following bans from Apple and Facebook
  • YouTube removed Alex Jones' page, following similar moves from Apple, Facebook and Spotify.
  • YouTube said in a statement that Jones repeatedly violated its policies.
YouTube has removed Alex Jones' page, following bans earlier Monday from Apple and Facebook.

The Alex Jones Channel, which counts 2.4 million subscribers, still appeared in YouTube search results by midday Monday, but presented only a take-down notice when users clicked in.

"This account has been terminated for violating YouTube's Community Guidelines," the notice said.

Google had previously declined to comment on the InfoWars host's standing, but said in a statement to CNBC in response to the removal of the page: "All users agree to comply with our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines when they sign up to use YouTube. When users violate these policies repeatedly, like our policies against hate speech and harassment or our terms prohibiting circumvention of our enforcement measures, we terminate their accounts."

YouTube counts "strikes" against pages for posts that violate the company's policies. Jones received a strike in July when he posted four videos that violated YouTube policies against child endangerment and hate speech, the company said in a statement to CNBC.

A page with one strike against it is suspended from live streaming for 90 days, YouTube said, but Jones attempted to circumvent the suspension by live streaming on other channels. As a result, his page was terminated, the company said.

The InfoWars YouTube page, which has significantly fewer subscribers, was still live as of noon ET.

Jones and his controversial radio show have for several weeks been at the center of a debate around fake news and misinformation on digital platforms. Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg drew criticism last month for declining to remove the InfoWars page.

Music streaming service Spotify removed InfoWars podcasts last week, and Apple and Facebook each cited violations of company policies regarding hate speech in banning Jones on Monday.

Jones confirmed on Twitter that he had been banned by Facebook, Apple and Spotify.

"What conservative news outlet will be next?" he tweeted.
