this year it's "all or nothing" (the WILDCARD is NOT available), but the antagonist is still the same....MINNESOTA TWINS. The last time these teams went at each for the Central Division title, the Tigers also held the lead. The Tiger pitching fell apart, allowing the Twins to garner the Central Division, while Detroit settled for the Wildcard. But this time around, its all or nothing. Sad, but true.
It appears like the Twins have hit their peak, while the Tigers are 'treading' water. Granted, they are missing the BIG Justin Morneau bat, but others are stepping up. They definitely aren't playing like a 74-win team, trailing Detroit by a mere 4-games.
The usually dependable Tiger hurler, Justin Verlander--once a strong candidate for the Cy Young--has suddenly become average. Ditto for #2 starter, Ed. Jackson. The rookie Porcello is simply a 'rookie' to tough times....QUESTIONABLE! And Washburn hasn't delivered when needed, unlike his performance with the Seattle Mariners. Pressure, maybe?
Let's hope the Tigers right-the-ship in time to avoid another 2006.
