Florida restaurant no longer allows 'Monkey Mondays' after animal bit 8-year-old boy

A restaurant in Florida has stopped allowing a couple to bring their monkeys after one of them bit a child.

A restaurant in Florida has canceled its weekly “Monkey Mondays” after a customer’s pet monkey bit a child’s finger.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Stuart, Fla., started the exotic pet-friendly tradition when a local couple would bring their two monkeys to the restaurant and eat on the patio. The wait staff started calling the weekly practice “Monkey Mondays,” Miami Herald reported.

However, those days are over after a 9-month-old Capuchin named JoJo bit an 8-year-old boy on the finger.

The incident reportedly happened July 16 when the boy, Jaxon, tried to “grab [JoJo] trying to play.” The monkey bit the boy’s pinky, leaving a small cut on his hand.

Jaxon was taken to the hospital, but was released after doctors cleaned his wound.

The Miami Herald reported that before the monkey bit Jaxon, the couple warned Jaxon’s father that JoJo was “being hyper,” and Jaxon should be careful.
The couple, who own four other monkeys in addition to JoJo, were cited by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for not having an up-to-date rabies vaccine for JoJo and for owning an exotic pet that bit someone, the Miami Herald reported.

Since the incident, Carrabba has changed its policy to only allow service dogs and ponies on the patio.

A man accidentally shot himself in the penis, and was taken to the hospital for surgery

A Florida man has been rushed to the hospital by a kind stranger after accidentally shooting himself in the penis.

Shanekia Roberts, 25, told police that Cedrick Jelks, 38, came into her home in a panic and ran straight to the bathroom. She followed the intruder and saw that he had a gunshot wound to his crotch, so she gave him a lift to the hospital. Jelks underwent surgery there.

Jelks, who was convicted in 2004 for cocaine possession, reportedly told Ms Roberts that he had sat on his firearm, causing it to go off, local media reported.

The victim of the accidental gunshot may be facing charges once he is cleared from the hospital, however, since he is a convicted felon and likely unable to be in possession of a firearm.

There are more guns in circulation in the United States than there are people, with a rough ration of 113 guns for every 100 people. And, accidental shootings are a real problem — particularly with children.

There are 1.7 million children who live with unlocked and loaded guns in the US, accounting for roughly one in three homes with kids, according to data from the Centre for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

That access to firearms amongst children results in thousands of accidental deaths a year. There were 2,549 children killed in 2014 from guns, and an additional 13,576 more were injured. People who die from accidental shooting were more than three times as likely to have a firearm in their homes. As for children, 89 percent of accidental deaths occur at home when a child i playing with an unlocked gun.

Florida Man Denies Drinking and Driving, Says He Only Swigged Bourbon at Stop Signs

JULY 10--An inebriated motorist assured Florida police that he was not drinking while driving, but only swigging from a bottle of Jim Beam bourbon when his

vehicle paused at stop signs and traffic signals, according to a police report.

Earle Gustavas Stevens, 69, was arrested two weeks ago for driving his Mercury Grand Marquis while under the influence. The Vero Beach resident, now free on $1500 bond in advance of a July 31 arraignment, was nabbed after a driver called 911 to report that Stevens’s car repeatedly tapped her bumper while they were in a McDonald’s drive-thru lane.

When a sheriff’s deputy contacted Stevens, he reeked of alcohol, was slurring his words, and had ”red and glossy” eyes. On the Mercury’s passenger seat was a bottle of Jim Beam, from which Stevens admitted he had been drinking.

Asked if he was drinking in the auto, Stevens replied, “No.” He then explained he was enjoying the bourbon at “Stop signs.” The deputy further noted Stevens’s distinction when it came to drinking while driving: “He further explained that he was not drinking while the car was moving and only when he stopped for stop signs and traffic signals.”

Stevens was arrested after failing a series of field sobriety tests, as first reported by Will Greenlee of Treasure Coast Newspapers. A breath test recorded Stevens’s blood alcohol content at nearly twice the legal limit.

A suspected drug dealer attempted to hide more than $1,000 from Florida officers during a traffic stop – in his rectum.

Marion County deputies pulled over Pattreon Stokes early Saturday morning, and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside his white Buick. After searching the vehicle, deputies found nearly 200 grams of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, a small amount of pot, and large wad of money.

Stokes was arrested and taken to jail. But when they arrived, the money had mysteriously vanished.

Officials say Stokes told deputies that his money had already been collected, and then deputies noticed $20 bills falling from Stokes’ rear end. Deputies conducted a follow-up search and located $1,090 tucked away in his buttocks.

Stokes was booked on charges including smuggling contraband into a detention facility and possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
