Yeah says that she admired old blues singers. I just enjoy good music that is one of the few places I'll put race aside. Homegirl can just blow if she sounds like someone it doesn't mean she is trying to imitate them. You can't fault her because she is getting pushed by the majors.
As far as women of color that can blow just as good or better but are struggling to break through, Post up a link. If there is enough of following amongst people(consumers) and she is in demand and selling out shows and what not then she will get picked up.

I got put on to her kinda late(a few months ago). I can't be mad at her though. She probably grew up listening to Lauren Hill. Then people told her to Study the masters like Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. It's a classic case of white folks taking black music and making it a huge crossover success. While we as black people don't stay true to the shit that we perfect(soul music, jazz, R&B, hiphop), they step up and become superstars. Take a look at the hiphop game when Eminem came in(98-99).
