Nissan and Pathfinder fans, any thoughts? The new Pathfinder gets a unibody frame and loses its V-8 option.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder Photos Revealed on Facebook
Nissan has finally released images of the production-ready 2013 Pathfinder, after previously only showing photos of the concept version. These images come more than half a year after the 2013 Pathfinder concept made its debut at the Detroit auto show.

Nissan already showed us the interior of the new Pathfinder in February, but until now we had only seen the exterior of the concept version. Fortunately, as Nissan executives promised in January, the production 2013 Pathfinder hews very closely to the design of the Detroit show car. The crossover’s nose is dominated by a rectangular chrome grille frame and wide, upswept headlights. A curving character line runs the length of the Pathfinder, intersecting with the lines above the butch widened fenders. Chrome roof rails and a panoramic sunroof define the roof.

The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder switches from body-on-frame to unibody construction, which should reduce overall weight and improve the vehicle’s on-road manners. Even so, the company promises the new Pathfinder will be able to manage light off-roading and tow as much as 5000 pounds. Nissan has previously said that the Pathfinder concept will use an “advanced” V-6 engine and a continuously variable transmission. It should be 25 percent more fuel-efficient than the 2012 Pathfinder and could return as much as 26 mpg on the highway.

The new Pathfinder shares its platform with the 2013 Infiniti JX35, which probably means the Nissan will use the same 265-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 as the Infiniti. The old Pathfinder gave buyers a choice between a 266-hp, 4.0-liter V-6 and a 310-hp, 5.6-liter V-8. A five-speed automatic was the only transmission choice.

Even though we haven’t learned much about the new model, Nissan says the 2013 Pathfinder will go on sale this fall. That means we should expect the automaker to reveal more information about the crossover within the next few months. Like its predecessor and the Infiniti JX35, the 2013 Pathfinder will be built at Nissan’s factory in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Revealed! 2013 Nissan Pathfinder Production SUV in Photos

The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder will roll into dealerships this fall as much as 500 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Of course, that’s because Nissan has once again taken the unibody SUV path, ditching the last-generation Pathfinder’s truck-based platform. The result is better fuel economy and, we’re expecting, a more comfortable ride that will get the 2013 Pathfinder on crossover shopping lists across the U.S.

UPDATE: In a promotional video below, Nissan announced that pricing on the 2013 Pathfinder will start at $28,270. Even with a destination charge — which is $825 on the 2012 model — a $29,025 MSRP would make the new crossover just under $1000 cheaper than the pre-incentive price of the outgoing model.

Not surprisingly, the outgoing Pathfinder’s V-8 will not be appearing on the new Nissan’s options list, meaning the 2013 Pathfinder will be powered by a 260-hp 3.5-liter V-6 mated to the automaker’s latest CVT in front- and four-wheel-drive forms. 2013 Nissan Pathfinder fuel economy is estimated at 20/26 mpg city/highway for front-drive models and 19/25 mpg for four-wheel-drive SUVs — the 2012 Pathfinder V-6 is EPA-rated at 15/22 mpg in rear-drive form and 14/20 with four-wheel drive. In case you’re wondering, the old Pathfinder V-8 hit 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

What those 2012 Pathfinders didn’t feature, however, are some of the second- and third-row solutions offered by the 2013 Pathfinder. The 2013 Pathfinder’s second row of seats has 5.5 inches of seat travel and, like the Infiniti JX SUV, the Nissan can provide access to the third row of seats — which has a back recline feature — without removing a child seat in the second row. Other family-friendly technologies on the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder include the automaker’s Easy Fill Tire Alert and the Around View Monitor to make parking easier.

In place of the 2012 Pathfinder V-8′s 7000-pound towing capacity on the 2013 Pathfinder (the new model can tow 5000-lbs total) are available features like a three-zone entertainment system, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, a much more advanced instrument cluster, plus a dual-panel moonroof.

What may make the biggest impression on those who have driven the outgoing Pathfinder is the claimed reduction in NVH and more refined driving experience. Where this leaves the already-popular 2013 Infiniti JX is unclear. Through the first seven months of 2012, the Pathfinder already served as Nissan’s third-most-popular SUV, with 17,865 units sold, behind the mechanically related but smaller Murano (31,542 units) and the compact Rogue (85,031 units). With the refocused 2013 Nissan Pathfinder crossover on the way, it appears Rogue and Murano buyers finally have a large crossover to consider before they leave the Nissan family.

Looks like a Hyundai.

Quite sure it's a quality vehicle, but the softened up looks don't do it for me.

Excellent HQ PICS

and they fucking ruined it.

I had a manual transmission 95 pathfinder and drove that thing into the ground and loved it. I watched the body styles get worse and worse and this is the fucking rock-bottom.

my father loved pathfinders too and he's got to be turning over in his grave at this shit.

A lot of SUV's they're releasing now look so damn feminine :smh:

Damn, they might as well be mini vans.

:lol::lol:

The Pathfinder is now a crossover.

That's badge engineering my friends. This and the Infiniti JX are one in the same, which happen to both be built on an elongated Nissan Murano chassis.

Let's be honest, how rugged does a suburbanite need a truck to be? What's more important, it be able to handle off road or the ride be smooth enough so that they don't spill there Starbucks?

You late bruh, the SUV is the new minivan. I still don't get it though, how is it people need a 7 seat, 5000lb vehicle to haul around 2 kids.

Madison Ave said you need it to go with your 4 bed /3.5 bath 2,500 sq ft home.

And the Murano is based on the FF-L platform which came from the Nissan Altima.

That's because most of them are on car based platforms. More and more are moving from their original truck-based platform so that they can get increased fuel efficiency, and better ride quality/road handling.

Damn, they sissified the Pathfinder :(

True, but it seems like Nissan gave up on the styling long ago:smh:

Yeah I was soooo disappointed when I saw this. I've have the 2010 V8 its an absolute beast. My pops still got the 2001 unibody joint that rides like a car. Like I said disappointing shit is a feminine crossover now.:smh:

I'm just gonna have to keep rolling with the beast

I just traded in my 08 Pathfinder V8... shit is horrible on gas and with kids that shit got real small inside real quick...

I got a 09 Benz R350 and the funny shit is it has more space inside than the Pathfinder and wider.....

This is horrible.

I LOVE Nissans but someone needs to fire their design and styling teams and recruit people who can design desirable, stylish and beautiful vehicles.
