How this turn into a shit on alice walker thread. If I was in a palestinians position, I would want people to give a shit enough to acknowledge my situation, even if they could do anything about it. Genocide is being committed on Palestinians, the way african & american indians have been who on the wrong end of settler colonial situations. Black people should know better than to shit on palestinians.
I like the color purple. Danny Glover would never play a role that demeans black men & his character Mr. in the color purple finds redemption in the end. I don't believe color purple slandered black men at all. It did point out the dual oppression black women suffer (race & sex) a lot of times at the hands of black men. Don't none of u act like you have never seen a black man dog the shit out of a black woman.
Alice Walker ain't a saint, she been through some shit that self-admittedly fucked her being up (she was raped by a male relative as a child, among other things). I wasn't hip to her daughters experience (thx 4 that info). But Alice Walker has been a champion for women & black people in general (that includes black men) & unlike a bunch of our bitch ass leadership speaks out against exploitation & oppression were ever it is. even if it is isreal. She shouldn't be disrespected like that. She a womanist & I don't have a problem with that, she supposed to be (i'm a man & I'm about manhood). She got some extreme views during the development of her worldview, but she was in an extreme situation (the terrordome). I can't condemn her totally for her mistakes.
Alicia Keys can do what ever she want, but Alice is right on this one.

I agree with Alice Walker and our performers and people in the public eye who have a chance to say something need to say something. The U.S. is supporting an Apartheid state in Israel, and it's awesome that artist speak for those who cannot.....it's not always a money grab....sometimes you have to stand on convictions and principles to make your life a full one.

Race is a sign of intelligence hence if you over compensate and look to date outside of your race then you are smarter (above) the regular negro. You begin to let this attitude creep into your work and lifestyle to the point where you are disjointed from the black experience. I'm sure you guys had the black girl in school, or college who seemed to be a try-hard by going out of her way to go gain acceptance from other races. Especially when the other race doesn't know she is bi-racial or actively looking to gain their acceptance. She would always say she has 1/8th this blood in her or her mothers grandmother was from this european country. Or the best one is the plausible deniability catch all phrase- "I'm all mixed up from (insert white country here) to (inset another white country here)". Because of this self-induced racial elevation you think you are what you are not - hence the nigga wake up call. Tiger got his from Sergio recently, oj need I say, more and now alice. I love when it happens the look on their face and the disbelief is worth it. Oh wait til tigers kids get called ****** and lil charlie gets into a fight a school - those are the best. The tap dancing tiger will do should make gregory hinze nod in approval.

my question..does it discredit the issues she put forth regardin her relationship with her mom and he own issues with feminism as she learned from her mother..?
It's about airing dirty laundry when a phone call would suffice, I can see her talking about her relationship in her first book, however she comes back to that same subject & she gets the reaction she wants from the public. What has Rebecca even done to heal the relationship? She won't even let Alice Walker see her grandchild.
